• "The property is really well maintained and kept."

  Everything was clean and pleasant when we arrived. We were really pleasantly surprised with the unexpected amount of lovely things in the kitchen like the butter, welsh cakes, ground coffee, milk and tea waiting for us when we arrived. The boot room was fantastic for the dog to be fully clean before entering the rest of the property. The house itself was nice and warm, and the fireplace room was super snug and cosy. The instructions from the owners were clear, and there were good recommendations about places to visit and restaurants to eat at. The garden has a bird feeder that already had fat balls for birds in it when we arrived, so we could enjoy the visiting birds to the garden. Pen Y Bont has everything you could want from a holiday cottage and more, in my opinion. Fantastic stay!

• "We had a wonderful relaxing holiday."

  We arrived at the start of the snow storms and as this part of Wales experienced heavy snow fall, spent the whole week in the cottage, enjoying the beautiful views and the wildlife. We were warm and very comfortable, lovely space to relax in and the cottage had everything we needed. We had taken sufficient food with us so that this was not a problem. But Lynn was super, checking on us daily and offering to collect any provisions we might need. We would love to go back and explore the area, but have lovely memories of our relaxing week in a winter wonderland.

• "Pen-Y-Bont is a beautiful cottage in an idyllic location."

  We absolutely loved our time there. The cottage is well equipped and extremely comfortable. The rooms are nice sizes, with the highlight undoubtedly being the kitchen area. We spend so much time just sat in there drinking bruise, and watching the wildlife out the window whilst listening to the stream. Unless you are extremely keen walkers, you need a car to go anywhere and everywhere but the surrounding countryside is beautiful to go for long walks through if you feel like doing so. The beds were extremely comfortable, and we all slept extremely well with it being so quiet and dark in the rooms at night. There is not a glimmer of light and not a sound to be heard, amazing! Personally, we had some struggles to get the log burner to get going properly. Logs are supplied, but as they are local from the land they weren't as dry as they might be which caused a few issues so I would personally recommend taking your own kiln dried. We had a few days of really bad weather with snow and whilst there are a plentiful supply of board games available the TV options are very limited. The TV is provided via sky, but with basic of channels available. Things that you would normally be able to watch on Freeview, required a sky card., which we do not have. It's a shame that there isn't a 4K TV to enable you to stream your own personal Netflix or other streaming accounts through. That really is the only thing that I can think that I would change. Everything else was perfect and our intention is to certainly go back.

  The best cottage we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot. Everything you could want or need in the lovely kitchen. The doors opening onto the garden and stream where open on every possible occasion, even if it was raining. Lovely hosts nothing was too much trouble Beautiful views and lovely area to visit. • "Had a lovely stay at the cottage, so peaceful with just the sound of the stream and sheep."

  We loved watching the birds and squirrel that came to the feeders. Place very well equipped with lovely comfy beds. There were treats waiting for us when we arrived and we are now addicted to Welsh butter. Would highly recommend.

• "Sorry for the delay in writing a review!"

  We had a wonderful time. Lynn and Guy were excellent hosts: warm, friendly, and helpful. Place was spotlessly clean, and everything you could possibly need, and more. We were lucky to have had a couple of unique experiences during our stay! We had a massive thunderstorm with a huge bang overhead (very exciting!) which knocked the power and heating off temporarily - nobody’s fault! But the owners sorted it out immediately! And we also saw the northern lights! The house is really in ‘the middle of nowhere’ - not a single noise, nestled within a protected almost cozy valley, which is fantastic if all you want to see are the sheep and the garden wildlife (variety of tits, squirrels, magpies and many more). We sat watching the wildlife for hours, with large French garden doors open. It was so quiet at night, we heard lots of unfamiliar rustling, animal noises we had never heard in our lives before, including a woodpecker. The house has a magical feel to it. We have stayed in many Welsh rural cottages, but this one felt comfortably familiar as if we had always lived there! Our only disappointment is that it is booked for a long time ahead! Not a surprise however, but we will definitely book again once there is a space! Alison & Andy xx

  The cottage as everything you need and the beds OMG amazing! Listening to the stream as you have a glass of wine.. Perfect.. If you want a quiet relaxing cottage then you won't be disappointed. There is wonderful pub down the road at Llanarmon, the food is lush.. The walks and the places to visit are only a short drive away if you want days out. A wonderful thank you to Lynn and Guy

• "We stayed with our 3 children and small dog."

  We found the house to be comfortable, cozy and met all our needs. The kitchen was well stocked and the house was a good size. We walked by the river just outside the house, went to Llangollen and canoed across the aqueduct. Visited the steam train and stopped for lots of holiday ice cream. I would recommend this house for a family holiday.

• "The cottage is stunning in a peaceful idyllic location There are some amazing circular routes to drive to places we have visited frequently in the past or walks from the doorstep."

  Our holiday was different this year we just needed a quiet place to relax. We couldn't have chosen anywhere nicer than Pen Y Bont. Super comfy beds, and sofas in all rooms. It's relaxing watching the different birds that visit the garden and buzzards circling. There was a variety of games and books for all ages. The cottage is equipped with absolutely everything you need and more!!! The kindness of the owners went over and above, without being intrusive. We would highly recommend Pen Y Bont. Sonia

• "Our stay at Pen Y Bont exceeded all of our expectations."

  The cottage is beautifully set. I was able, each morning, to sit on a couch looking out through a glass wall over the patio to a stream and beyond that to a hill and watch birds coming to feed, squirrels scurrying around, a hare bouncing through the field and sheep and lambs grazing. Then during the rest of the day, there are numerous walks, heritage railways, former mines and castles to explore or one can sit at the patio table and eat and drink. The cottage is incredibly well equipped and generously proportioned. We were a party of three adults and there was never a feeling of being 'on top of one' another. The final bit of praise I have is for the owners, Lynn and Guy. They were so welcoming and generous (they ended up taking our shopping delivery in and putting the refrigerated and frozen food away for nus since we were running late) and, at the same time, we never felt that our privacy was intruded upon. In fact, quite to the contrary.

• "We had the best week ever at Pen Y Bont."

  The cottage is spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped with amazing views across the valley from the 360 degree view window with an abundance of wildlife and walks from the doorstep. It's so relaxing and a real get away from it all spot, with loads to do and see in the surrounding areas, to then return to the cottage to chill and watch the wildlife. We were lucky to experience the lamb and daffodil season which was a big plus for us. The local pubs are terrific - friendly serving amazing food. I recommend The Hand at Llanarmon - the best and tastiest Sunday lunch we've ever had. I could go on and on, but go experience it for yourself and you will see what I mean! Thank you Lynn and Guy for a warm welcome and much appreciated welcome pack, we can't wait to return!

  If we could I would move in tomorrow permanently. The kitchen had everything you needed, the wildlife that came to the garden was very entertaining. Watch out for the yellow hammers making an appearance. The Hand hotel/ pub / restaurant provided wonderful food at a very reasonable price.   Comfortable, clean, cosy and everything you need plus more. Normally you can't find a bed as Comfortable as your own at home but these are.. The lounge is lovely and cosy with a huge fireplace with a woodburner, a selection of DVDs and games books etc, the welcome pack was lovely and another nice simple touch was just the bowl of water waiting ready for our dog upon arrival. I could go on and on but you should get the picture that this is worth booking, the best we have stayed at in 10 years of using Sykes. We will definitely be returning....

  The cottage is so well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The house has been finished to an extremely high standard and the furnishings are very comfortable. The boot room for the dogs is fabulous. The owners have thought of everything even leaving us Welsh cakes, eggs, butter & milk on arrival. Cannot speak highly enough of the cottage. Fabulous place to stay for a week. We will be back, in fact didn’t want to leave.

• "We really enjoyed our stay, we were blessed with good weather, there was a lovely welcome pack and the kitchen had everything."

  The ability to put the heating on for longer was welcome and the wood provided for the fire was great, normally you only have enough to get you started. One small consideration for visitors with dogs, the brook at the side of the house and garden is open to the farm road, at least 2 of the dogs in my family would have been off, also children would need to be watched. Will book again next year.

  This time my sister and brother-in -law came with us. The cottages is still as stunning as it was on our first visit. Everything inside the cottage was beautiful maintained. We loved our unexpected visitors to the garden, two sheep who had escaped from field. We had such a chilled and fun time that we have booked again for September.

• "Second holiday this year with Sykes Cottages and hit the jackpot again!"

  ! Superb cottage sitting at the bottom of a beautiful river valley 2 mins off the main road down a tarmac track. Couldn’t have wished for a more quiet location. Huge picture window at one of the kitchen/ diner gave fabulous views of the surrounding hills and wildlife - amusing our cocker spaniel for hours. Cottage was immaculate and well appointed with all you could possibly need. Extremely comfortable beds, two shower rooms and a lounge with log burner keeping us cosy in the autumn evenings. A welcome pack of Welsh Cakes, butter and fresh eggs was provided by our excellent hosts Lynn & Guy Location was absolutely perfect for exploring the Ceiriog Valley from the front door and 15 minutes in the car for walking on the excellent tow paths of the Llangollen Canal and the two impressive aqueducts. An absolute fabulous relaxing week and will definitely be returning in 2022.

• "We had another amazing week at Pen y Bont."

  We were here 2 years ago and had another hot week this year. It was lovely to have good weather but the cottage is exceptional. It is very peaceful and away from it all. The high land around it makes phone reception non existent but it is so quiet and the wildlife is a delight. From the birds in the garden, we had a pheasant wandering around in the evening with his family, and often buzzards could be seen circling the valley. The stream running through the garden was so relaxing in the evening with a nice glass of wine. Most days we took our hound for a walk up the hill past the farm on the track through an old quarry. You need to be aware that there are sheep in this area so a long lead is a good idea unless you have an exceptionally well trained dog. We only went out once for a meal and that was to The Hand hotel which is very popular locally. The meal there was one of the best we have had and there was definitely service with a smile and very dog friendly. We were made very welcome when we first arrived with milk, butter, welsh cakes and fresh farm eggs from the hens. Altogether a very relaxing break and Lynn and Guy are a most welcoming and helpful couple.

  The garden is an amazing setting in itself, with flowers, a stream and wildlife sneaking in when it is quiet. The surroundings are idyllic from every viewpoint. The owner Lynn is friendly and advised of the local walks and nearby towns that we could visit. We would definitely return/recommend to others.

  The only thing that wasn’t quite the same was taken from a few of the reviews...which say the garden was great for dogs as it was fully enclosed. The cottage description hadn’t said that so it’s not the owners fault but just to point out that the stream isn’t enclosed so once in the stream, the dog can just walk along it and put onto the farm road. The rest of the garden is fully fenced but we couldn’t leave our golden retriever out in the garden without constant supervision as he would just walk alongside the stream and out! Saying that, the cottage, garden and surroundings were just so super relaxing and stunningly peaceful that the enclosed garden thing didn’t matter really. Everything was well catered for and really clean and there was enough broad band to keep our teen son happy! Would definitely recommend Pen Y Bont for a rural getaway.

  The kitchen was a delight to sit in with views all around. The living room was comfortable and cosy. The snug, with a small desk, was a great asset for teenagers working for exams and the bedrooms and bathrooms were great. The large boot room was a very useful addition with plenty of room for muddy boots and coats. The owners were helpful and welcoming.

• "We had a perfect week at this lovely cottage as the place was so clean and and had everything we needed for our stay."

  The bed was comfortable and the underfloor heating in the main bathroom was perfect on chilly mornings. This place is perfect for a relaxing break as it is so quiet, the only noise the sound of the bubbling stream, bird song or sheep up on the hill. The view from the kitchen was stunning with the full height doors in glass overlooking the stream and a stand of trees. We watched buzzards high above the hill as we sat at the kitchen table. There are plenty of walks direct from the cottage which is great if you want fresh air and don't want to drive. We had our dog with us and found lots of walks to take him on. For us this was the perfect relaxing holiday and the owners were so helpful - they even came down to the cottage to take in our food delivery when the driver arrived early and we were still en route to the place. We loved our stay so much we're already planning on coming back!

• "This is the second time we have stayed at Pen Y Bont and were a little worried it wouldnt be as beautiful and immaculate as the first time but we needn't have worried."

  It is simply gorgeous, so warm, inviting and tranquil. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with lots of walks. The little stream just running through the garden and by the side of the house just adds to the peaceful beauty of the place. To sit outside (in a jacket - it was February after all) having my breakfast with the noise of almost nothing other than the stream is such a lovely way to start your day. Had a great week playing games with the kids, watching the winter olympics and taking the dog on long walks. The outside hose and boot room are perfect for giving the dog a wash down and being able to dry him off in the boot room separate from the rest of the house.

  The cottage is extremely well equipped and everything is of the highest quality for example crisp white bedding, fluffy white bed sheets. The bathroom is divine with underfloor heating and a powerful shower. It is so well designed - a large heated boot room where we could store our muddy bikes and boots. The views from the property cannot be surpassed and it has a beautiful private garden. Lovely welcoming touches too, vases of fresh flowers and a tray ready for afternoon tea with home made Welsh cakes.

  The patron's, Linda and Guy were only a stones throw away if we had had any concerns, there is only one thing that we would change and that was the comfort of the lounge area seating, it was very hard, small and we needed to rest up on this Holiday, the stream running alongside the cottage was a thrill for our King Charles Cavalier Broghan, he had so much fun, we all had a great time on some of the popular walks nearby.

• "The cottage and location were both excellent, plenty of space inside and out and we had the use of the owner's fields to exercise our dog."

  Couldn't have wished for more! If you have a small dog then the garden is more than sufficient for exercise as the size of it is really quite deceiving and fully enclosed, if your dog likes water they'll be on cloud 9 :) Our boxer adored it and spent time playing in the stream in the garden and also in the river that runs through the fields. We had a very relaxing week and would like to return, the dog is already counting down the days til his next holiday! The owner Lynn is very friendly and made us feel welcome, with lots of little touches throughout the property. We arrived to find some afternoon tea laid out, fresh towels and all the little things like shower gel, kitchen roll etc that you tend to forget provided for us. If you're considering this property, just get it booked, you won't regret it!

This cottage is roughly 1h drive from Snowdonia but the quality of the accommodation and surroundings easily made up for the additional travel time. • "The house is quite simply idyllic."

  The house itself is immaculately clean and well maitained, with lovely little like the herb garden, a little stream that run through the back garden with such a peaceful sound to the floor to ceiling glass wall in the kitchen giving you views out to the beautiful garden and surrounding countryside. The cottage is out from the village but is in easy driving distance of several little towns and villages. There are several walks that can be taken from the cottage around the surrounding fields and hills. We will definately be coming back and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
