  • "We had a fabulous time at this property, which exceeded our expectations in terms of facilities and location."

Good use was made of the lake with swimming and fishing (a few small ones caught and released!), and of course the hot tub. The view from the terrace is lovely and it's in full sun for the afternoon/evening. The lake and grounds surrounding the house are enclosed and completely private. Good quality beds and bed linen and a well equipped kitchen. Plenty of bathrooms over the 3 floors (we had one floor per family, which worked really well. Everyone could be seated comfortably around the dining table and there was room outside too. Extra parking in the village car park was easy and no problem. Things that we found to do are: 1. walk from the village across the fields and back along the forest track (about 3 miles) - suggested by the owner - really nice 2. walk from the village past the chapel (Ann Griffiths walk) uphill - you can get to the top of the hill and on to the next village (need walking boots). 3. Roomination - Escape rooms - about 7 miles away in Llanfyllin (20 min drive) There is one room, takes up to 6 people - very good. 4. Llanfyllin Workhouse - there is a history centre - this is in the same place as the Escape rooms. 5. Lake Vyrnwy - 25 mins drive. There's a car park(free) at the top end of the lake and a 2 mile easy work to a fantastic waterfall. You can also park at the main car park (charge) and do other walks - the Dam walk, and there's an Artisans cafe where you can buy ice cream. 6. Powis Castle (National Trust). 25 mins drive Lovely day out, but not suitable of the less abled - you walk up from the car park and then down to the gardens. Also consider Chirk Castle (one hours drive) 7. Llanfair light railway - you have to buy a return ticket, which is expensive. It's a good 1/2 mile from the station in Welshpool into the town, and not enough time anyway. There's a pub (the Raven) by the station in Welshpool which is open all day every day. 8. Gregynog Gardens & walks - 30 mins drive - £3 to park and then can do forest walks, but they are not well marked. There's a cafe there as well and a hall (not for visiting). Thank you and we have booked to return next year!

Let down by a poor main oven but otherwise excellent. The children loved the lake and the dogs were in doggie heaven.

Thank you for your feedback Mr Sharp. We make every effort to ensure our guests have an amazing experience at our home. We are extremely disappointed that one of the ovens failed during your stay. We would have valued the opportunity to fix it immediately if you had let us know. Without being informed it was impossible for us to rectify and ensure your stay was perfect. Please know that we are getting this fixed now. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved our holiday!"

We stayed in August as a family party of 11. We were greeted with an array of lovely welcome treats for us all and our dog Bella. The house had everything we needed, what a beautiful place to stay, with lots of room and individual spaces if needed for everyone, we were so lucky with the weather too! The lake was amazing and we did lots fishing and took our inflatable kayak which was great to keep everyone entertained. The wildlife was great, we had squirrels, red kites, buzzards and all kinds of other birds, a resident heron liked to come and visit every morning on the jetty! Sally was on hand if there were any questions or queries. We would all recommend Tan Yr Allt, it's a wonderfully beautiful place! Thank you for everything

  • "This house is a hidden gem in the Welsh countryside."

It's a gorgeous house in an outstanding location. The views from the raised terrace across the properties fishing lake to the sheep field and hills beyond are wonderful. The house is spacious, a large 12 seater dining table, to a comfortable lounge for all . Copious amounts of outside space for our 3 large dogs to run around . We all enjoyed afternoon tea on the outside seating area . Also lovely watching the heron and kingfisher by the lake . Thank you for the lovely welcome basket for humans and furry friends , we even had fish food to help the fishermen amongst us . We all enjoyed a fantastic week. We would love to return in the future .

  • "Just home from an amazing week at Tan Yr Allt."

11 people from 3 generations and 3 dogs. All rooms were spacious, large enough to accommodate everyone in a room without feeling cramped. There was enough space for people to have quiet time without having to resort to going to their bedrooms. Tesco delivered our shopping for the week which was very handy as there is literally nothing there, closest shop was about a 15 minute drive. It didn’t bother us in the slightest as the more remote the better. Views are absolutely stunning, hot tub was best we’ve used and the photos don’t do the lake justice. The weather wasn’t the best but didn’t stop us using the hot tub or swimming in the lake. Best cottage we’ve stayed in in years. Will definitely return in the future, many happy memories made!

Beautifully presented inside and out. Large lake, which we fished and swam in. Had a wonderful week, large house with very comfortable bedrooms. The views are tremendous, a pure gem of a house. We loved it, and will definitely return.

  • "Just returned from a lovely week stay - there were 8 adults, a baby and 2 dogs in our party."

The house accommodated all of us and we were not cramped - plenty of bedroom options. When we initially read the listing we thought there were 3 ground floor bedrooms but there was only one however this wasn’t an issue in the end. The garden area is amazing - we didn’t have to take our dogs out at all as there was ample space for them to run around. The pond was incredible and a couple of us did cold water swims every morning. Only a few minor negative points - we were unable to check in at 3pm as the cleaning team were still there. The party before us had only just left. Luckily the weather was nice and we could sit outside. - we weren’t left enough towels however I contacted the owner Sally and this was promptly rectified. - we found the sofas quite difficult for the older members of the party. They are very low down and and needed a lot of cushions to prop people up right. Again a minor point - the kitchen has been well used and the cupboards could benefit from some basics such as kitchen foil etc. we also weren’t left any bin bags for waste so probably best to take some of your own. Overall a really lovely property and we would recommend it to anyone wanting a group/family get away. There was something for everyone

Lots of activities around the property. We had a great time and enjoyed the facilities; would definitely recommend it. The only downside were the flies. Some nets for kitchen windows would help a lot to keep them outside.

  • "The house and grounds are absolutely stunning."

There is everything you could possibly need and more. All bedrooms are clean and beautifully decorated, the beds were so comfortable too. Bathrooms were all clean and modern. The well equipped kitchen has everything you could possibly need. The grounds are just stunning. We fished in the lake, the dogs had a little swim and loved running around the garden, which was completely secure. We all enjoyed the hot tub too. We booked for my husband’s 60th birthday, there were 10 adults and 3 children and 2 dogs. I can honestly say that this is the nicest places we have stayed in the uk. Don’t hesitate, book it you will not be disappointed. We would definitely stay again.

  • "Great location in a quiet valley village."

The property was well presented and the welcoming package with fish food for the lake was a nice touch. The kitchen is well stocked and a good communal area to spend time. The dining room is perfect for a large group, which leads out onto a spacious veranda where you can sit and enjoy watching the ducks on the lake. The rooms are all equally high specification with superking size beds and en-suite shower rooms. The lounge was large and housed all 11 of us in the evening without an issue. It is a great place for dogs and they enjoyed the grounds and laying on the Jeti in the sunshine. You won’t find many idealistic places for a larger group of friends/family. Would definitely book again for a family gathering etc. The only advice I would give to a guest would be that the nearest shop is a short drive away so maybe best to bring some firelighters and salt and pepper. We all will fondly remember this weekend. Thank you.

  • "We all loved the property!"

Perfectly equipped to provide for an impromptu birthday high tea and enough settings for us all. Particularly enjoyed the hot tub but perhaps providing towels specifically for use in it might have allowed us all to partake! Speaking of facilities, if you are catering for Young children, please provide travel cot and high chairs, it just makes it more inclusive. It is actually the first place not having this provision. Overall, we all enjoyed the welcome pack and our few days went far too quickly. Thanks to the owners.

  • "Amazing property, well maintained."

Mostly clean but with such a huge property some places were missed (I don't envy the cleaner!) However this didn't take away from the gorgeous property with beautiful views. Happily took my morning cuppa to walk by or sit by the lake, perfect way to start the day. We had snow and frost while we were there and it just added to the beauty. For those who enjoy walking we had beautiful walks right from the doorstep, great to get out and enjoy beautiful Wales...even in the bracing cold of January. Property was packed to the brim with cups, glasses, cutlery, etc which meant you didn't need to wash up every time you used a fork! Plus a lovely welcome basket greeted us as well as free essentials - washing tablets, dish soap, hand washes, dish washer tablets, sandwich bags, bin bags etc. Plus a few dog treats to keep the pooches sweet. If I could ask for anything adding to this ample kitchen it would be flat baking trays. Cottage does need a bit of TLC - in my bathroom there was a towel rail not attached and in the bathroom on the middle floor the towel rail fell away when used. Just little things but flagging so Owner can get them repaired. Would we stay again - a big yes! Definitely a cottage to recommend.

Had the family travel from various locations in the UK the house accommodated us all perfectly. Owners were quick to change up the beds to twins upon request. Lovely welcome hamper greeted us. Weather was pretty horrific all weekend so unfortunately hot tub use was extremely minimal, little suggestion of maybe adding a cover for the towels at least specially in winter time when hanging them outside. Due to location of tub wind path was fierce

  • "Our family group aged from 4 up to 72 had a wonderful week here at this fantastic house."

The property is huge and there’s plenty of space for all. The lake was especially enjoyed by the fishermen in the family, and they managed to catch some good sized fish (and some tiddlers too!) We took 4 dogs with us, and they had a great time. The outdoor space is so much bigger than it looks on the photos, and there’s some beautiful walks from the house…. by evening the dogs were shattered. We enjoyed the stunning scenery that surrounds the house, and saw lots of wonderful wildlife. Thanks to Sally for the thoughtful touches such as dog treats, and welcome treats for us too. The only thing that may be an issue for some is the distance to shops/pubs etc. For us this wasn’t a problem and we were happy to take it in turns to pop out for any groceries. The house was clean, modern and had everything we needed. We would love to return in the future and would thoroughly recommend it.
