Easy access to A5. Comfortable accommodation with everything we needed. The local pub only serves meals on Sunday, but within a mile there is the Queens Head (at Queens head) which serves high quality food all week.

  • "We were pleasantly surprised to be welcomed with gifts of bread, cava, and milk from the owners - how lovely!"

The cottage is beautifully furnished and the guest towels were soft and fluffy. The cooking facilities were great and everything you needed for making meals. The village is beautiful and perfect for dog walking. The only negatives were a lack of gates/fence to keep our little dogs from straying into owners garden and driveway and the very steep staircase - maybe another rail on wall side please. Otherwise it was a fab experience.

  • "We had a lovely stay in the cottage."

Everything was immaculate when we arrived and with some nice complementary treats. The cottage was the ideal size for four (we came with our adult-sized teenagers). The facilities were great, the good WiFi and a TV better than ours at home meant we had happy teens. It is in a great position, we enjoyed exploring North Wales, local National Trust properties, Chester and local walks.

Thank you for such lovely feedback. We’re chuffed you had a lovely stay. Property Owner

  • "First the good news !"

This is a pretty little cottage within the courtyard of a restored & converted stable block. The village of West Felton is a lovely quiet Shropshire village just off the main A5 trunk road but far enough off it to be very quiet and peaceful. All the villagers we met were friendly & chatty and there is a very useful village shop and post office (post office open Wednesdays a.m.only). Sadly the village pub, the Punch Bowl, has seen better times and needs a big chunk of investment to compete with the nearby Queens Head just a mile down the road. Hope it survives ! Oswestry is just a few minutes down the road where there is more choice & several supermarkets. The cottage itself has been updated with new kitchen, bathroom and two very pleasant bedrooms (one with super king bed !). The cottage is small, ok for two but we though four adults would struggle. The refurbished bathroom is downstairs next to the kitchen which can be a bit of a hassle if you need a quick dash to the loo in the night ! This involves negotiating the steep narrow staircase with some strange step arrangements where they meet the bedrooms - needs a lot of care to negotiate safely ! The "not so good" bits ! - We have stayed at lots of Sykes cottages but this is the first one where we almost turned round and left when we saw the lounge carpet. It truly looked as though someone had held a pop festival on it, grubby, badly stained. Only fit for the skip I'm afraid. Really needs a hard floor to be in keeping with the cottage character & to cope with the wear & tear it obviously gets. The place needs a bit of TLC in a few places too - my first shower had to be aborted due to the shower waste not working properly. Had to set to and clean it out which was a bit unexpected. Similar the dishwasher which needed its filters cleaning out to work properly and the detergent dispenser wouldn't close so it was hand washing up - again not a show stopper. To maximise space the lounge has a fold down dining table with some integrated dining chairs - truly the most uncomfortable things we have ever sat on even with the addition of a cushion ! Its a shame that a bit more attention to detail & maintenance hadn't been paid because its a lovely place & could be a lot better. The owners were away when we were there otherwise we would have knocked on the door and explained all of this to them. Don't be put off, its a nice place but bear in mind the downstairs bathroom, steep narrow stairs if you have mobility issues. This is a dog friendly cottage & we had our dog with us - however the two black cats & the free range hens are boss so watch the dog !!

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry we weren’t there to attend to your concerns. The carpets were deep cleaned directly after your stay. The cleaner had made us aware stains had appeared and this was our first gap between guests. Apologies this wasn’t addressed before your stay. However, we will take on board the suggestion of hard flooring. We will also consider other options for how to make the dining room table more comfortable. Apologies for the shower and dishwasher, we will ensure these are deep cleaned. We’re glad you found our lovely village very friendly and hope you enjoyed Shropshire. Property Owner

  • "Rectory Cottage is a little gem in the peaceful, friendly village of West Felton."

It was cosy, comfortable and clean, with everything you would require for a wonderful holiday. The owner, Jo, who lives next to the cottage went out of her way to ensure my wife and I and our border collie had a very enjoyable stay. The welcome pack was one of the best we've had with Sykes Cottages. The local pub (Sunday carvery) and the shop (open 7.30 am to 10pm, every day) were only ten minutes walk and the supermarkets were four miles away in Oswestry. There were plenty of places nearby to walk our dog. The cottage was a perfect base to visit Shropshire and NE Wales. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thank you Jo.

Hi there, thanks for the feedback. I have been requesting updates to my description since June 2021, unfortunately this is not something I am able to change myself. However, I'd hope that the new kitchen, and introduction of a back door on to a new patio area, provide improvements to the property. Regrettably the washing machine didn't fit in the new kitchen (I also requested this to be removed from my property details last year). However, as it happens, the washing machine is actually being reinstalled this week, in it's new location under the stairs. Property Owner
