  • "Really lovely tucked away quiet cottage."

It is relatively secluded and ideal if you want peace and quiet!

  • "We stayed here for a week over Christmas with our dog and it was perfect."

The cottage has everything you need and more. Even though it is on a working farm it was very quiet and the views are magnificent. It is the perfect spot for exploring and not for from a supermarket / shops. The Christmas decorations and treats were a lovely touch. Would definitely recommend this cottage to others.

  • "The cottage was really lovely…."

Ideal for all of us…. Great facilities very well equipped We would have liked travel cots as we have twins but borrowed from family I only asked you a few days before arriving so was last minute The shower was very weak which was my only criticism

  • "Ideal location for visiting all that MORAY has to offer."

Easy parking right outside the cottage door. The wash hand basins in the 2 first floor bedrooms makes things easier if 5 people were holidaying together but it should be noted that the bathroom is on the ground floor which is good for the single bedroom adjoining it but less so for those sleeping upstairs. Only other small point is listing of fridge freezer could give wrong impression as the fridge only has a tiny ice box at the top.

  • "We stayed in this cottage for a week over the Christmas holidays and it was a good base for all kinds of day trips."

The cottage has all you need for 5 people. The only real drawback of this place is the fact that you have to drive to any attractions you wanna see. There isn't really any paths or walking trails you can follow from the farm the cottage is located on. With a car you can reach a lot of beautiful spots in just a short drive though. I will definitely have this cottage in mind if visiting this region of Scotland again some time.

  • "Decent little cottage with almost everything needed for a comfortable stay."

Not much to compain about although the double bed is a bit close to the sloping ceiling and I clunked my head a couple of times getting into bed. Directions to the cottage are pretty useless and it's not easy to find until you realise that Stable Cottage is actually on Saughwells Farm which is signposted on the road although easy to miss on the fast main road. Not much to do in the immediate area although there are places of interest a short drive away. We used it as a base for walking the Speyside Way for which it was ideal.

  • "Very comfortable place, things such as tea coffee, sugar, cooking oil, all usefully provided."

Sticks for walking and good shortbreads left too, nice touches. Owners were helpful. Freezer compartment of fridge did not appear to work - not a big issue though

  • "Very quiet despite it being on a working farm."

On a couple of mornings we noticed sheep being sheared (it looked very interesting indeed), but only when we opened the window for airing. Once closed, we couldn't hear a thing. Very clean, all the necessary things for cleaning provided in the kitchen cupboard and plenty of towels. The kitchen was well fitted as well. I was happy to find a coffee press! Our host provided a variety of tea and coffee sachets and other add ons, which was very thoughtful. The bed was very comfortable, slept like a baby. The only minor thing that could have been better was the shower pressure, although all the other taps were working perfectly. All in all, a very pleasant stay. We would definitely come back and will recommend to our friends willing to visit this beautiful part of Scotland.

  • "The cottage was clean and the beds comfortable."

However the living area lights didn't work as the light bulbs were defunct so we had to change one or two around. There was a good range of crockery but the selection of pans was poor..some without lids and even if only two of you are staying then take a decent larger pan or two with you. The small freezer compartment inside the main body of the fridge was heavily iced up and excess water from the ice dripped onto food stored below. The freezer compartment contained a previous visitor's pizza. A washing machine is provided but no linen basket or wash stand or other drying facility. It really wouldn't be costly to provide both. On a plus, plenty of dishwasher tablets and cleaning materials are provided. The location isn't as attractive as the description might suggest. The outside area is really rather neglected looking. The directions given are of no use but google maps got us there!

  • "The property is lovely."

Small but perfect and we had everything we needed. A great location to explore the coast and the Cairngorms and the Whisky trail. 5 minutes away there are ‘winding walks’ of varying length which are perfect for dogs and absolutely spectacular. We loved our stay, and even the low water pressure due to the well water did not lessen our experience. I highly recommend it.

  • "Cottage was comfortable and had everything needed except sharp knives, but that's quite common so we bring our own anyway."

It was just big enough for 5 of us, bit tight for cooking, but ok for a week. Had to drive everywhere as next to the main road between Keith and Fochabers, and could hear the road but if you are aware of and happy with that, it's not far to shops and many nice places to visit. Overall happy with our holiday.

A bit cramped for more than two people. Kitchen equipment could be improved and shower water pressure is poor.

About the location

FOCHABERS

Elgin 9 miles.

The highly attractive village of Fochabers is situated to the east of the River Spey. A key point along the Speyside Way (long distance path from Buckie to Aviemore), visitors stopping off can marvel at the fine selection of architecture which adorns the village. The Georgian church on the south side of the square is especially striking, complete with its clock-tower dated 1798. In the nearby village of Mosstodloch is Baxters food processing factory, a family-run company that has been operating in the area since 1868. Dolphins can often be seen playing at sea along this stretch of Scottish coastline, and ospreys can be found fishing for food for their young who nest in the tall pine trees. A superb location for enjoying the great outdoors!
