  • "Excellent location in terms of the beach - the pups loved it."

We enjoyed the space and different living/seating areas especially as we were all logging into work at various times. The shortbread and tea were appreciated as well. We will definitely be booking again.

  • "Mermaid's Purse was my 3rd "Sykes stay" this year and was the best appointed and equipped cottage of the 3 and the other 2 were very good."

The upstairs bedroom/suite is amazing. 200yds to beach so a quick short walk to a fab long beach. Cottage was immaculate on arrival (as all Sykes properties are). Great bathrooms, comfy lounge, well equipped kitchen. Nice touches were the shortbread and boiled sweets plus milk in the fridge. Highly recommeded.

  • "Mermaids Purse is a fantastic holiday home for families or couples."

There is a pretty garden that is fully enclosed with a couple of sunbeds and a picnic bench to enjoy an alfresco breakfast. Only a few minutes walk to the stunning beaches. Very well equipped and comfortably furnished, the house was spotlessly clean and tidy. We had a relaxing couple of weeks exploring the area. Any queries were quickly answered by Bridget and Tim and the shortbread that we found on our arrival was very welcome and delicious. A 20 minute stroll through the Bush Estate brings you to Cart Gap and the Small Sticks cafe where we enjoyed a lovely breakfast followed by a walk to Happisburgh along the beach. The Star at Lessingham serve delicious food or if you fancy something more gourmet then you can’t go wrong with the Ingham Swan. Both are only a 5/10 minute drive away.

Felt really at home there. All facilities excellent. Cleanliness excellent. Garden lovely. Weather perfect. Top marks for everything accept the location itself. We are elderly people and found Eccles On Sea difficult to find (our fault!). We also found the nearest shop and pub to be further than we expected. However now we are forewarned it will not stop us coming again!

The whole place is spotlessly clean and the bed linen is superb. There was milk in the fridge and homemade shortbread on arrival. A proper caffetierre and tea pot, loads of crockery and glasses. The oven was as clean as a whistle! No suspicious looking jars, packets and bottles of other people's groceries left behind! It was home from home! The dogs had a safe back garden and a very short walk to the beach. We are booked for next year. The best ever !!

We had a fabulous time and made good use of the garden as we were blessed with good weather - it was so peaceful. Being so close to the beach is an added bonus and the majority of the time we had the beach to ourselves. We were four adults and a dog and the property is plenty big enough to comfortably accommodate everyone's needs. Thank you for our goodies, especially the shortbread. If you are looking for a holiday rental in this area, look no further you won't find better! We look forward to returning again later in the year. Thanks again.

  • "Exactly as advertised."

Absolutely lovely property, well cared for and maintained. The homemade shortbread and milk was a delightful surprise and there were many little touches (pet treats etc:) that showed the owners care for their guests. Unfortunately we stayed during an exceptionally cold week and we did find the house to be quite chilly at times. The hot water seemed to be tepid, especially in the ground floor shower, during certain times of the day. It would be helpful if the owners could provide directions from the main road in the instructions for key pick-up as the SatNav signal was problematic and it made for a frustrating situation on the back roads to the property. Overall a wonderful experience and we would certainly love to stay again. Highly recommend

Hi Sarah, Thanks for taking the time to write a very thoughtful review, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Mermaids purse. We will certainly look to add a little more detail to our directions to the property. Regarding the downstairs heating and shower, both are thermostaticly controlled and can easily be turned up., but again we will look to add a few more details in the guest information. The multi fuel burner is also really affective at providing extra heat, we provide wood and smokeless fuel for all our guests to use if needed. Kind regards Bridget and Tim. Property Owner

Spotlessly clean, quiet, dog friendly and the beach a short walk away was just what we where looking for and we weren’t disappointed. We had a lovely relaxing time with everything we needed in the property. There were only two of us and our dog but the property was well equipped for larger family’s with three bedrooms and a lovely dining area. We were looking to stay near the beach which was only a few minutes walk away. Lovely and quiet for the time of year but again just what we wanted. A lovely touch was the homemade shortbread and the doggy treat bones, tea, coffee and milk on our arrival. We did make use of the log burner while we were there which was great. To sum up a fabulous property with everything a couple or family needs and we would not hesitate to highly recommend it.

Although it was October and it rained at some point every day due to storm Babet, it was very mild and we had daily walks to Happisburgh and Sea Palling along the lovely empty beachy, which was literally about a minutes walk away. Our dog loved the long walks too, and when we got back to Mermaids Purse, we sat in the kitchen area with our feet up on the foot stool in front of the log burner.....we didn't use the living room once. We just connected to the wifi and either watched things on our phones or read some of the books about the history of the area, which were in the dining area. The homemade shortbread from Bridget & Tim was a lovely touch too. Such a cozy bungalow with everything we needed, even a trunk with dog toys, a dog blanket and a dog bed under the stairs. An absolutely perfect October holiday, we're already thinking of going back and we only got home a week ago.

Otherwise a lovely stay in mermaids purse, owners very helpful n willing to help out, only downside was the road to property there were really huge pot holes, ok for a 4x4 but other cars you need to be careful, with all I’ve said we would love to go back for more holidays, the beaches are lovely & very near to walk and explore ,

Thank you for taking the time to review your holiday at Mermaid's Purse. We are so pleased you found the upstairs bedroom out of this world! We agree the woodburner, when used, warms up the whole house, making it lovely and cozy. Regarding the lounge sofas, we've had a look and tested out all the recliners and can confirm they are all working well now. But thanks for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry you found a few pot holes in the road, in the description it does state the road is unmade, pot holes can sometimes form after heavy rain, but we have a volunteer road crew who aim to fill in the pot holes on a regular basis, we hope this helps. We have stayed in lots of dog friendly holiday homes all over the country for years & this is ‘simply the best’. All the accessories you could need, perfect location & loads of room. The homemade shortbread is totally yummylicious & so very thoughtful, along with the other goodies which had been left. Just a few minutes walk to the perfect sandy beach, which us & our dog loved, think he tried to dig to Australia every day!! There is so much to see & do in Norfolk, loads of dog friendly beaches so you don’t feel isolated & all so close to where you are. Why other clients moaned about the roads & the area, I just don’t know. This is a remote place which has unadopted roads, little lanes really. When we were there they had obviously just been redone & yes you had to drive slowly because the stones might kick up. We have stayed at some homes where the roads could damage the bottom of your car, they were so bad, so certainly no complaints from us. The owners certainly know what they are doing to cater for your every need & for me the property being so superbly clean, is an absolute must. Would recommend this property to everyone, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you to the owners, we are very happy.

  • "I hot a txt to say the house was ready which was nice ."

On arrival there was tea and coffee etc , milk cheese and biscuits and homemade shortbread which was a lovely touch . The house was super clean and the garden perfect for out 2 dogs. The house was a little cool and we couldn’t get the radiators to come on so we used the multi fuel fire all week which was lovely for us all. The only problem we had was that 2 of the bed mattresses were too hard for us so we had to sleep in the smallest bedroom and bed which my husband at 6ft 3 found quite challenging . The bed linen was lovely tho throughout . Location was perfect just 200 yards from the beach and very quiet .

  • "I am disabled and therefore going on holiday presents certain problems."

Standard toilets are too low, higher ones are available and make life so much easier. Grab handles in the shower are needed as as there is nothing to hold on to and I did not feel safe when showering. These are the only issues I had. In all other respects the property was perfect, comfortable and spacious

Thank you for your feedback, We have decided to install a grab handle in the downstairs shower during our next maintenance week in November as we want all our customers to have a wonderful stay and we hope this will help. Property Owner

  • "Lovely house with lots of room for six people."

Comfortable and well equipped with everything required for a family holiday. The garden was secure for the dog and was a lovely sheltered spot to sit out. The beach is just a short walk from the house. A welcome pack was provided by the hosts and the shortbread was delicious. We had a very enjoyable hoilday at Mermaids Purse and it is definitely the best cottage we have stayed at in Eccles over the past 6 years.

  • "Probably the best cottage we ever stayed in, it was immaculate with every facilty there, even treats for the dog and home made shortbread."

The owners texted us on our journey down to say we could arrive earlier than shown on the booking. The booking process was simple and we found Sykes very efficient. We loved the location only yards from the beach and sea however some may find the location a little isolated. The private roads could do with a little TLC. Ideal for dog owners.

  • "What a hidden little gem."

The mermaids purse has everything you could need and more. The property is kitted out with all mod cons even a/c in the bedrooms. The owners have done a fantastic job can't fault anything. The cottage is tucked away in a pretty location near the coast. It was a lovely base for exploring Norfolk and would happily recommend. We really didn't want to leave at the end of the week. From the moment we arrived we were touched by the little extras such as the homemade short bread, tea, coffee, milk and cheese left by the owners. The bedroom suite upstairs really has the wow factor, the pictures online don't really do it justice. Although Eccles on sea is very quiet the surrounding areas have so much variety you would find something to suit everyone from young to old.

A lovely kitted out holiday home, they have thought of everything. A minute walk to a dog friendly beach, beautifully clean. Loved the little touches of homemade shortbread, milk, fresh orange juice and crackers and cheese. Everything finished to a high standard and super clean.

  • "Beautiful comfortable house with everything you could need and a very high level of cleanliness."

As a family of 6, from grandparents to children, there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space when wanted. Lots of little welcome gifts for us all on arrival, eg homemade shortbread and doggie treats, which was a nice gesture. As described, the roads around there are very bumpy and uneven, but the fact that you get the use of a long stretch of quiet sandy beach on your doorstep, makes it worthwhile. The only downside is that it is a fair walk to the nearest shop and pub but it encouraged us to do a fair amount of walking. Perfect dog friendly beach. Can certainly recommend.

It was very clean and beautifully presented. The attic bedroom is like a studio flat and very chic. We spent a lot of time in the dining room at the back of the house as it gets the sun and is very comfortable. The garden is totally escape-proof even for small dogs which was another huge plus for us. There was milk and cheese in the fridge when we got there as well as home-baked shortbread and tea and coffee to start us off, very welcoming. We loved it.

The Sykes team helped us to book the accommodation and the service from them was great. The chalet bungalow owners were friendly and super responsive. The accommodation itself was in very good order and very well equipped. There was even some great provisions for our little dog, who also deserved a holiday and came with us. Would definitely recommend booking a stay here.
