  • "When we arrived in the chalet we were all overwhelmed with a fusty/ mould smell that even my sons commented on."

The property pictures were very deceiving as the property was much smaller than expected with dated furniture & decor. Mainly our biggest disappointment was the cleanliness of the chalet. It hadn’t been cleaned properly after the last guests as there were visible hand marks on several of the windows, dusty surfaces, the bath & sink were still visibly dirty and the floor was filthy & stained. The bedding did not smell clean at all so much so that I had to strip all bedding and take it to a local laundrette. The owners were informed of our disgust at the state of the property & came to apologise ( it seems they are managing the cleaning themselves- I did advise they might need to get a professional in between guests!!! Compensation was offered but never followed through with. We also saw them on 2 other occasions during a walk & when the door lock stopped working. They were quick to respond & assist in fixing the door. My husband has cancer and is undergoing treatment so we were hoping for a stress ( and germ ) free stay … however I ended up spending hours cleaning ( with products I had to purchase myself) just to ensure it was disinfected enough to be safe for him during our stay. Had it not been for our young son’s excitement for the holiday we would have left…. The walls were paper thin & we were woken by the neighbours shouting at their kids when they rolled in around midnight! In a positive note the chalet is well situated within Hemsby. We had a lovely week when not in the accommodation.

Thank you for your feedback which we take very seriously and use to improve our guest experiences. Firstly, you arrived on the hottest day of the year. While the property is being cleaned all windows and the door are opened to air the place through. However, once the windows and door are shut, there is a build up once again of condensation and this is what creates that initial smell that you mention. In our opinion, the photos reflect the sizes of the rooms accurately. Seaside chalets are small roomed and appear to be of similar size and construction across the Uk. Addressing cleanliness. My husband is a ‘professional’ cleaner having worked in both factories, schools and colleges over several decades. Before any guest arrives, the chalet is aired, it is brushed through, hoovered through and steam mopped through. Due to the condition we found the chalet in prior to your arrival, this was done twice through…brushed, hoovered, mopped. The day you left, my husband actually had to spend additional time having to brush, hoover and steam mop three times through. I actually watched my husband wash out the bath and sink during a brief visit to drop off the sheets. I personally washed, line dried and pressed your sheets which were a good quality American high count thread cotton, very cool for such hot weather. When we received your text communication we were quite shocked at all you had to say as we knew we had spent over two hours cleaning. As my husband was already at the site, I asked him to visit you as a courtesy. We were quite shocked that considering your husbands illness, you hadn’t phoned prior to arrival. We would have suggested that this type of holiday might not have been suitable for your family due to the type of building, location to sand and grass etc. Seaside holiday chalets are pretty much built to a similar blueprint. They are not luxurious. We are glad your son was excited and that you were able to enjoy all that Hemsby had to offer. Property Owner

  • "Was a really lovely stay, only downside is the WiFi was extremely poor, we couldn’t use the smart part of the tv and we ended up using our own phone data as it worked much better."

Fine for the short stay but if we stayed longer would have been an issue. But other than that it was perfect.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. WiFi is an ongoing issue for all the chalets on Sundowner and probably the whole area during school holidays. We have tried several options and the WiFi we currently use was recommended by a tradesman working onsite. Once again thank you for your feedback. D&B Property Owner

  • "We have had a pleasant stay at chalet 468."

On arrival we were a little surprised to find the property in the centre of a row of 3 properties, as the information does not seem to mention this, nor do the pictures give this away. (Just a FYI, the walls are pretty thin, and on our last night noise from one of the neighbours went on until after 11pm, keeping our kids awake - wasn’t a party or anything like that, just loud voices and banging about). The welcome pack and information was a nice touch. The beds were fairly comfortable and space worked for us for our 5 day break. The chalet was clean and tidy, although definitely in need of some general maintenance. Nothing was urgent or adversely effected our stay, but a couple of points worth noting: the mirror in the twin bedroom had at some point clearly come loose from the backing. The backing is still on the wall but the mirror is siting on the floor. This could possibly be problematic with young children. The sink basin in the bathroom is very loose and definitely needs some attention. The location is perfect for exploring the coast and the town has enough facilities that you can stay close to the chalet also. Hemsby has a firework display every Tuesday in peak season, something we didn’t know before arrival. We were able to see the fireworks from the car parking area, which saved us fighting with the crowds to go and watch them, a bonus for sure. Our dog doesn’t care about fireworks but there were a lot of dogs about who clearly don’t feel the same, so if you plan on bringing a dog in peak season, it’s worth being aware (fireworks at 10pm on every Tuesday). Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We take all comments raised and use them to make our guest experiences as good as is possible. Prior to every season, every room is painted and soft furnishings replaced. However, due to location and the fabric of build, alongside sheer numbers of visitors, condensation takes its toll. We try to keep on top by repainting whenever there is a gap in booking. We were surprised to see what had happened with the mirror as that had been on the wall for over a year with no problems The mirror has been removed as we are conscious that the room is most often used by children. Once again we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. D&B Property Owner

  • "The chalet is located on a pleasant and well kept holiday park."

There are no facilities on the park, but in one way that's what made it so nice, as all the chalets appeared to be privately owned and grounds were so well kept, with lots of lovely flowers surrounding all the chalets and caravans. The location was good for our first visit to Norfolk, as in a central location which made it good for visiting different parts of the area. The chalet was basic and mostly clean and functional. Everything you needed, comfortable beds, and a lovely welcome pack. The only negatives I have were the listing advertises an outside seating area, but fails to mention it is looking directly at a hedge, and on our visit there were dog hairs on the cushions that had been placed on the bed - so I had to remove these. Although I am a dog lover, I did not think this was acceptable.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. It is a shame that you didn’t like the outdoor seating area as it was this very thing that we love about our chalet…namely it’s privacy and the hedge is full of colour both from flowers and gorgeous red leaves. D&B Property Owner

  • "Lovely chalet, I contacted the owners with query and they responded quickly."

There was a lovely gift box, greatly appreciated. We used the chalet more as a pit stop as we ventured out most of all day. The shower on switch is in the airing cupboard in the kitchen. It took us a short while to discover it. I wrote it in the manual there. If you need access to beach walking follow the road to end, where you see arcade go along the path with bushes either side, get to end turn left keep going. You will come to pub carpark, walk through it and turn right and the beach is in front of you

So glad you enjoyed your stay in our chalet. Thank you for writing these details into the welcome book. Glad you enjoyed the welcome pack. Look forward to hosting you again. D&B Property Owner

  • "We spent a long weekend in this chalet and had a lovely stay."

We had a minor issue with lighting which was rectified swiftly with really good communication from the owners. The chalet had everything we needed for the weekend, the welcome pack was very much appreciated and a big bonus for us was having fuel included in the price so there was no worrying about having £1 coins for the meter which has caught us out when staying in other chalets in the area previously. Thank you for a lovely stay, we’ve already booked to return in September :) Also thank you for the recommendation of the boat trip from Horning, I e really enjoyed that on Sunday.

  • "Holiday park is in a good location & well maintained."

First impression on entering the chalet was the smell of damp which wasn’t great. The welcome pack was a nice addition with bread, milk, etc. this does seem to be pretty standard with privately owned accommodation. The chalet could do with a thorough clean, floors need mopping, cobwebs, bathroom needed attention, bath & floor not clean & sink loose, unsure why a cleaning cloth had been left crumpled in the corner of the bath. Rusty air freshener can, shampoo, etc. dispensers but didn’t look particularly hygienic & a used handwash, if those items are provided would be better if they didn’t look used. Rusty towel rack & bedding & towels smelt musty. Great to have an information booklet, but no mention in it that the switches for the hot water & shower are in the cupboard in the kitchen, would’ve been helpful to have hot water on arrival rather than to find out late in the evening that we had to turn it on ourselves, likewise with the shower. Hot water in the bathroom sink barely a trickle. Property does feel slightly run down, curtains hanging off, screws not fully screwed in, paintwork could do with freshening up & the general feeling of dampness wasn’t nice. Generally the chalet is lacking some TLC & was rather disappointing.

Thank you for your feedback. We are concerned you didn’t have the holiday you expected. We are disappointed and know that if you had made contact, we could have helped to improve the quality of your stay. We are happy to be contacted in this way. We do everything we can to give our guests the best possible holiday we can. This includes making sure all our bedding and sheets are new to season, while all towels and soft furnishings are washed and ironed prior to every stay. We are using the same method of providing shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and hand soap as in the previous year…all without incident or complaint. All products were supplied new at the start of the season this year. We will review everything stated and make any alterations as necessary based on your feedback. D&B Property Owner

  • "A very homey feel to the chalet."

The owners had thought of everything. There was a welcome pack, tea, home made cookies (possibly the best we've ever tasted), milk, bread, butter, eggs and even treats for the dog! There was shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in the bathroom and washing up liquid in the kitchen. All beds had extra throws on them and there was more than enough towels provided for everyone. Even though we brought our own stuff with us, there was a dog bed, food and water bowls too. The owners really have made the chalet lovely and cosy. It was much better and nicer than I was expecting. We all had a great time. Thanks so much.

Kitchen and bathroom needed more storage, nowhere to put anything, but it was clean and comfortable. Welcome package was a nice touch, bread milk, butter, eggs, and the most delicious cookies, bought some to take home. Probably more suited to a family with young children, but we enjoyed our stay.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. Will take some time to consider how to add more storage solutions for future guests. Glad you enjoyed the welcome pack. We enjoy sharing the local produce of Hemsby with our guests. Property Owner
