Small supermarket very close and chippy just across the road. Also honesty box for eggs outside which was filled every few days. Nice enclosed garden for our 2 dogs. Lovely quiet village and seems to have good community and lots going on. Large park very near for walks. Enjoyed our stay.

Lovely shop and chippy a very short walk away and the village is one of the best I have stayed in, people so friendly and also a great old pub with a friendly landlord and landlady.

  • "We have had a fabulous 2nd stay at Chalk Cottage."

The cottage is very comfortable & well equipped - only thing missing was a hairdryer. The garden is completely enclosed, which was great for our small dog. Rumbles fish bar, in the village was very good. Brandon Tandori also very good. Valentinos, in Brandon, was our favourite. Great walks in Thetford forest. RSPB Lakenheath is well worth a visit. We were very lucky to see the amazing display of the Northern Lights on our last night. We would definitely book the cottage again.

Perhaps needs some instructions re bins (what to put in which bin and whether bin/s needed moving for collection) as recycling bin had been messed up, with general rubbish, prior to our visit and bin men refused to empty it. Seemed to be quite full so I assume that isn't the first time they refused to empty it. Ended up taking our recycling home with us, didn't have time to empty out the bin ourselves and sort it.

Thank you for staying at chalk cottage Good to see you had a good Holiday and enjoyed the cottage Sorry to see the they didn't empty the bin on their rounds I've asked Norfolk recycling centre to make the bins easier identifying for Holiday guests Thank you Hope to see you back in the near future cottage owner Property Owner

  • "We had a relaxing holiday our dog loved the garden, Just a few points that could make the place better, More cooking utensils needed in the kitchen, Only 3 small pans to cook food, Some more serving spoons and a decent set of knives would be handy as there was only a bread knife and a small veg knife, Both the back door and the front door locks need replacing it was very difficult to lock and unlock, felt like the key was going to snap everytime we used them, No dust pan and brush to sweep up, The plug sockets could be better placed around the house some of them didn't make sense where they were, Thicker duvet on the beds would have been nice, No dryer which would have been handy, we did have a few sunny days so we hung the washing outside instead, A selection of books to read would have been nice, Bigger towels for us big guys and girls would have been great, Handy for the shop and the pub which we visited a couple of times to play pool and have a couple of quiet drinks, Some of the doors didn't close and the ones that did rattled with the wind, We visit norfolk 3 times a year because we love it so much and we wanted to try a new place to stay, I think if it was better equipped we'd definitely stay again, Our dog got told off by the lady across the road for barking, Unfortunately him being a Romanian Shepherd he's bred to guard his territory wherever he is, Overall lovely cottage just needs to be better equipped for those who choose to stay in most of the time."

Just want to point out extra knives were in wooden safety holder on the worktop and dust pan/brush are kept next to the hoover in stairs cubard I will make it more visible in future And I will check the cooking pans as they always need replacing due to not being cleaned after cooking it's a on going thing Thank you these suggestions will be done to improve your stay in the future Thank you the cottage owner Property Owner

  • "Very inaccurate/fraudulent listing."

    1. There is no Sky Q package, just freeview via Sky Q Box. 2. The kitchen is not well equipped. Three saucepans, a couple of frying pans and a selection of dirty baking trays and roasting tins - that's it. Even the cutlery was dirty and mismatched. There was no teapot, teacups, ovenproof dishes etc., not even a table spoon to serve up veg. We had to buy some oven proof dishes. 3. The king size bed only has a double mattress on it, and this exposes the metal frame. It's metal footboard is broken, and has a sharp edge. A king size topper has been added but this makes it impossible for the fitted sheets to stay put. Be prepared to refit the sheets during the night. 4. The mattresses in the second bedroom have not toppers and can best be described as instruments of torture - glad we didn't have to use them. 5. The tea and coffee containers need emptying. They look like they have been there for years. The coffee was one solid lump. I wasn't expecting a welcome pack, but a pint of milk rather than the individual out of date UHT pots that look like they have been stolen from some cafe would have been welcome. 6. The 'plush' sofas were dirty and worn out. They were very low and you sank even lower when you sat on them, very difficult to get out of. They offered no support and the low backs made watching the very high level TV painful after about 30 minutes. 7. There is no shaver socket in the bathroom and no adaptor provided in the bedroom. We had to buy an adaptor. 8. The tumble dryer has been taken out and no replaced, even although it is still shown in the pictures. Change the picture or replace the tumble dryer. 9. The front and back door locks need maintenance or replacing. It felt like they were going to break every time they were locked or unlocked. 10. The garden furniture needs a good clean. The table and chairs were green and could not be used. 11. Even the directions to the property are pure giberish. Instead of giving directions from the major approaches, they appear to give directions from a car park in Thetford, but with some of the stages mixed. Summary. I could go on and on. Basically the cottage and decor was lovely, but things have not been maintained, repaired or replaced when needed. Numerous sticky notes left by light switches etc. asking 'people' rather than guests to turn them off says it all. It was not welcoming. The were no recommendations of where to eat etc. and the local pubs listed were closed most days and when open were just boozers offering no food. The area was run and felt like a sink estate with graffiti on walls, grass growing through abandoned toys in unkempt gardens, and bins left outside with rubbish stacked next to them all the time.

  • "Nice place , we found the sofas too low and uncomfortable, and the beds especially the bunk bed one , uncomfortable."

Would suggest black out curtains as very difficult in bright light to get to sleep . Also decking needs attention , it's very uneven and an accident waiting to happen .

Large safe enclosed garden for them to play in. Good location close to Thetford Forest and the village is attractive. There is a convenience store just round the corner now, which is useful. Avoid the chip shop though, it is awful.

It was very clean upon arrival and decorated with Christmas decorations, which we didn't expect! Great utensils in the kitchen to cook Christmas Dinner, and very cosy when the wood burner was on. The location was peaceful and only a short drive from local shops. Would definitely recommend a fish supper from Rumbles. The only downside was that there seemed to be no hot water after 6pm, however, I will definitely be booking again, and the dogs loved it!

The cottage was very clean and had good facilities including a washing machine, dryer and a very good sized fridge and freezer (which you do not often have in a holiday cottage).
