Cottage was clean and comfortable with everything you could need. Enclosed rear garden was a hit with my dog. Parking was never an issue. Owner was very friendly and accommodating. Only slight negative was the walls were a bit thin so you could hear the neighbours but this wouldn't stop me from returning.

  • "We had a very comfortable and cosy stay at Valentine Cottage, loved the decor and it suited us perfectly."

It is very well equipped - hoover is brilliant :) It was very peaceful and is situated on a quiet little lane, with very little traffic, the entrance at the top is quite narrow and easily missed when first arriving in the car, fortunately our car is small so not a problem. We enjoyed being able to walk into town (a change for us as we live in a very rural cottage) and it was a good base for travelling to NT properties and surrounding areas of interest. We tended to use the back door when coming and going, weather was bad during our stay so it was wellies and raincoats - would be useful to have a couple of hooks in the little lobby by the back door for hanging wet coats. Also found the locks on the front door a bit tricky, hence making use of back door. Lovely back garden is a real bonus if bringing a dog, couldn't truly appreciate it due to the rain, but good for dog's early morning ablutions. We didn't really have a problem with parking, managed to get a space just down the lane whenever we returned from a jaunt. We had a lovely relaxing stay.

  • "On the whole we enjoyed our week and loved the area."

However, we found the stairs rather steep so having the bathroom downstairs was more of an issue than we had anticipated. The cottage was disappointingly dark inside due to an overgrown hedge opposite so it did not feel very welcoming. It is on a very narrow lane and we had to move our car during both loading and unloading to allow a vehicle to pass, even though we were in the lane for only a few minutes. Unfortunately the neighbour next door was renovating his property and for much of the weekend he was drilling the adjacent wall. Thankfully the weather was good and we could escape! Although plenty of cleaning products had been left we couldn't find any washing up liquid or dishwasher tabs which seemed unusual.

Thank you for your feedback, I shall contact the local council with regards the hedge opposite as it does block the light. But may I suggest you read the full Wright up on a property before booking. There was washing up liquid in the cupboard under the skin as I used it myself when I came to do the change over. There is no need to leave dishwasher tablets as there is no dishwasher. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our week in Aylsham, the cottage was very convenient for exploring the area and the town was lovely with great shops and places to eat."

We were able to walk to the nearby National Trust property, went on the steam train to Wroxham and had an enjoyable boat trip whilst there. Lots of lovely towns to visit, aircraft museum and horse sanctuary, we ran out of time to go to everything on our list, there was so much choice. The cottage was a good size and well equipped, the lane was quiet and neighbours friendly, we were able to park in the lane for quite a few days and very close by for the rest of the week. The only couple of criticisms we have which would have made our stay even more comfortable would be to provide a shelf next to the bed in the back bedroom for the side light, as I like to read sometimes before going to sleep. Also the shelf would be handy for a glass of water for during the night as had to put it on the floor. Also the lights in the back bedroom are too low, kept hitting our head on them and if the mirror leaning on the drawers was put up on the wall as kept having to duck to see in it (and we are not very tall). Overall we had a great week and would return to Norfolk again in future as lots more we would like to see and do.

Thank you for your feedback, I have an electrician coming to shorten the cable to the ceiling lights. Property Owner

  • "Had a great stay at Valentine Cottage."

It is very well-equipped (loads of cutlery and crockery) and close to the centre of the delightful little town of Aylsham. Highly recommend the Black Boys Inn for food - we went there 3 times! Downstairs bathroom was not a problem though it might be if you have old or infirm people in the group. We had no problem with parking; the slots near the cottage are very tight but we were able to park there every day. There is more parking nearby at the top of the very quiet lane. Blicklingly Hall (NT) is only 1.5 miles away with 4600 acres of parkland and woods for dog walking. Felbrigg Hall (again NT is 15 mins away. The garden is a good size and beautifully maintained and the neighbours are very friendly and all have dogs (as we do!). Norwich 8 miles away and there is a good bus service that will take you there from the centre of Aylsham. The Norfolk coast is about 20 mins drive with coastal path walks abounding. We really enjoyed our stay.

Off street parking seemed to be a concern before we booked but wasn’t a problem at all. If we can find any fault it would be a filtered coffee pot would have been nice. The coffee press did work ok though once we figured it out. A bigger mirror in the bathroom. Maybe a couple more wine glasses. Other than that it’s a great place in a nice setting and Village. We will definitely stay again!! Thank you.

  • "Lack of bedside tables in the bedrooms was a disadvantage - a narrow, rather wobbly bookshelf on one side and nothing else on the other is not really enough."

The back bedroom has no room at all for bedside tables, and it would be difficult for two people to get in and out of bed easily without disturbance. Could not see how to open the tumble dryer (I think that’s what it was!) so unable to use it. Parking: recommend the public park in Oakfield Road, only a few minutes walk and safe at night. It says ‘short stay’ but many locals use it all the time. Or at the top of Town Lane on White Hart Road, where cars are left at night and seem safe. It really isn’t fair to suggest parking ag the bottom of Town Lane, where residents clearly don’t like it. Otherwise, all fine and Hayley was very kind to me regarding my two dogs.

Dear Mrs Barker, So sorry and disappointed to read your negative feedback this morning, especially considering I was obliging in making exceptions to your change of dates and to your dog(s) which in turn enabled you to visit your friend. Privileges that I don't normally allow but did given the circumstances. Sorry you found your stay a negative experience but thank you for your feedback as it has highlighted areas for improvements which I will be addressing immediately. It was well positioned for local shops, pubs, tearooms, etc., and close to visiting family and a variety of beaches/towns. The cottage is situated on a narrow one way road and at times was tricky to navigate through the parked cars to parking on the next road. Even though the owner advised us to ignore the ‘illegal’ no parking signs outside some of the houses on the road she recommended us to park on, we did feel uncomfortable if we did park there but we were always able to park elsewhere along that road. I thought that due to Covid-19 soft furnishings, books/games, rugs, decorative pieces. etc would have been removed. Saying that, the cottage was very homely. We enjoyed staying in Hayley’s cottage and she was very helpful and always available if required.

The town itself can proudly boast numerous independent shops and businesses as well as the choice of food stores. The church is in the centre and stands very majestically surrounded by centuries of history. Managed to get the microwave working by trial and error. The owner was difficult to get hold of and did not return our calls which was disappointing. Wifi was switched off so couldn't connect till we worked it out. Again no instructions left for guests use. It would have been nice to have had a basic welcome pack, at least, to tide one over. Garden was a bonus and the seating was comfy. It was close by the local shops which was very handy. Parking would have been a nightmare if not for a kindly neighbour at the top end of Town Lane who let us park there for the majority of our stay.
