Perfect Size for a Couple.Loved the wood burning stove and a nice bathtub in bedroom. Great Location so everything accessible. Beach a stones throw away and Sheringham really pretty with friendly locals and some nice pubs and cafes. Short drive to other coastal beaches and Sheringham Park. Love our little break and will definitely be back. Already recommended to friends and family.

Little niggles for us : No pasta bowls, pans and frying pan really poor quality . One hand towel ( 2 people ? ) . Did it affect the enjoyment of our stay , definitely no ! Would we stay here again , definitely yes ! . I do think that when a cottage strives for 4 & 5 ratings the attention to detail is paramount .

It is adjacent to a pub, so was understandably noisy late some nights in the Summer. A bedroom fan might be nice to drown out the sounds. Owners very helpful and quick to repond in our experience. Sherringham is a really fantastic town, and you couldn't be much closer to all you need. The walk to Cromer and back (about 8 miles) is well worth the effort. People generally very friendly in Norfolk.

The property was gorgeous, clean and cosy. A lovely mix of period details and sympathetic modernisation with a cute little terrace to sit in the morning sun (this is enclosed now too so safe for dogs). It had everything you'd need and the hosts were super helpful, stepping in when Sykes weren't returning messages. The location was perfect. Off a quiet side street in a lovely neighbourly little yard but right next to the beach and the town centre. We had an amazing stay. Sheringham is a great town for a break and we will definitely be back!

  • "Lovely small fisherman's cottage with lots of character."

Lovely comfortable bed with feather down bedding. Bathroom and shower was good and spacious. There was a couple of umbrellas provided in case of bad weather. Really nice touches on our arrival was, fresh milk; coffee; tea and a box of biscuits waiting for us. Neighbours are very friendly and helpful with lots of information and tips. Good fish and chips and Chinese takeaway just around the corner. The beach is only a five minute walk away and the pub is just across the road (but can be very noisy with patrons and loud music on some evenings but this usually ended at 11:00pm). There's plenty of good local shops and for steam buffs there's the North Norfolk Steam Railway nearby. Overall everything about the house was good. However, there were some issues: Only one black bag was provided in the kitchen; the DAB radio wasn't working; the freezer door in the fridge was broken; only half the toaster was working and found some marks on hand towel in bathroom.

  • "Great little cottage, friendly neighbours who gave tips where to go."

Very good location for beach and shops. Let down a little by cleanliness (very dusty in places, holes in towels and black mark on one) damaged fridge freezer. Very noisy pub on doorstep, swearing and arguments, closed at 1.30am Friday. Very low ceiling as you go up stairs where my partner banged his head. There is no warning of low ceiling on way up stairs but a duck sign on the way down. Might be an idea to warn people on the way upstairs. Loved extra touches such as milk, coffe, tea, buscuits, robes, umberellas, household cleaning products and toiletries. Could do with a spare binbag we had to buy our own.

Insufficient toilet rolls (as other reviews) another one would’ve been a bit more generous…don’t expect to buy them whilst on holiday! Absolutely perfect for two people, very close to the beach and all local amenities. A minor niggle on description is that due to the property having no parking, i feel the listing would benefit from clearer explanation of the options (distances) and potential costs of parking in the area. I did my own research so as to factor in parking costs (£34 for week) in local car park.

  • "I enjoyed a relaxing week's holiday in Captain's Cottage and found the accommodation comfortable and well-equipped."

It is well maintained, although the glass in the front door has no blind on the inside. The door frame would suit a decent door curtain to would make it more cosy in the evening. There were some minor issues that could be checked and attended to at changeover: a spotlight was out, the pedal on the bin did not work, a couple of bedroom louver blinds needed minor repair. The outside area at the front of the cottage is now enclosed with a gate and metal fence since some of the photos were taken, adding privacy and it is pleasant to sit outside in the sunshine for breakfast. The proximity of the pub should be noted because their outdoor seating is very close by so there are loud voices and occasionally live music. It did not bother me but the cottage is not soundproofed (!) so it is worth considering if you are seeking an oasis of tranquillity in the evening. Other reviews mentioned biscuits and wine on arrival but that seems to have ceased, or I was unlucky. The fresh milk was appreciated nevertheless. Sheringham has lots of cottages to choose from and this one was more expensive than others I have used, but it was well located and furnished and I would stay there again.

Sheringham is a lovely small costal town with friendly dog loving locals who were most welcoming. The beach was unspoilt, wild at times with long, cold, bracing and awesome winter walks. The cottage was warm and welcoming and very comfortable. The organised layout made for a relaxing stay, with all the convenience of home but with a local, seaside cottage vibe. The deep bath was luxurious and the modern shower welcome after a cold day out exploring with one of my dogs ‘Parker’. A fluffy towel would have added a touch more luxury. I was grateful for the offer of wine and milk in the fridge, (although not needed in my case) and tea, coffee and lovely biscuits when I arrived. I found the whole stay wonderful and just what was needed; a welcome break from the pressures of the NHS (work). The hosts had left instructions for all appliances and local information to help plan my stay. Definitely recommend this clean, organised, comfortable home in a beautiful small town almost on the sea front. Thanks for a lovely holiday. Ele and Parker.

Very cosy with a log fire every night. Brilliantly located in Sheringham, less than a minute walk to both the beach and the high street. The pub opposite does get quite noisy at the weekend, but it didn’t stop us enjoying our stay. The National Trust park is beautiful for a long walk, as is the walk along the beach to Cromer. Even though we visited in the off-season (November), Sheringham was still nicely busy, with lots of quaint boutiques and good places to eat and drink. We highly recommended Stubby’s Pizza on the high street for a proper pizza with interesting toppings We’d never been to Norfolk before, and when we return we would love to stay here again.

Owners responded very quickly to our queries. The light going out over the stairs was a nuisance & shame that this couldn't be fixed during our stay. Great shower, though shower screen too narrow to prevent floor getting soaked, especially if shower head was angled. As previous reviewer noted, nowhere to put soap/shampoo whilst in the shower, except on the floor. Failed the ‘plug-socket-to-mirror’ distance test which made using a hairdryer something of a challenge! Great location & noise from local pub not too much of an issue at this time of year. We were awoken in the early hours of Wednesday morning to a verbal and physical fracas outside the pub and up the street, (that was with our windows shut to dull the noise of the music every night). We could not sit outside the cottage because there was no privacy from the locals outside the pub who were literally 20yds away and very loud and uncouth.

About the location

SHERINGHAM

Cromer 4.8 miles.

Sheringham was originally a small fishing village on the North Norfolk coast, but with the arrival of the railways in 1887 it prospered and grew into a popular holiday town. Sheringham has been awarded ten consecutive European Blue Flags for cleanliness for its beach, along with awards from Britain in Bloom, Anglia in Bloom, and Best Coastal Resort. Enjoy walking along the East or West promenades, offering sea views with blue skies and red sunsets, a beach with a silver-pebbled shoreline leading to golden sands with rock pools and streams next to ochre cliffs, local fishing boats and a RLNI lifeboat station with museum. This attractive traditional seaside town also has the 'Little Theatre', open all year round, seaside gardens with seating, a model boating lake, independent shops, tea rooms, steam railway, golfing, amusement arcades, and fish & chip shops selling locally-caught fish.
