"This was our second visit."
I have found my happy place. I simply love it at Captains Cottage, already planning our return trip
-
"Lovely property great location Not really dog friendly due to lack of outside space"
-
"Cute Cottage."
Perfect Size for a Couple.Loved the wood burning stove and a nice bathtub in bedroom. Great Location so everything accessible. Beach a stones throw away and Sheringham really pretty with friendly locals and some nice pubs and cafes. Short drive to other coastal beaches and Sheringham Park. Love our little break and will definitely be back. Already recommended to friends and family.
-
"Beautifully well presented cottage in central location."
Little niggles for us : No pasta bowls, pans and frying pan really poor quality . One hand towel ( 2 people ? ) . Did it affect the enjoyment of our stay , definitely no ! Would we stay here again , definitely yes ! . I do think that when a cottage strives for 4 & 5 ratings the attention to detail is paramount .
-
"Lovely comfortable cottage, with enough room to chain up a bike or two outside."
It is adjacent to a pub, so was understandably noisy late some nights in the Summer. A bedroom fan might be nice to drown out the sounds. Owners very helpful and quick to repond in our experience. Sherringham is a really fantastic town, and you couldn't be much closer to all you need. The walk to Cromer and back (about 8 miles) is well worth the effort. People generally very friendly in Norfolk.

"You will not get a better cottage for two or location in Sheringham."
The property was gorgeous, clean and cosy. A lovely mix of period details and sympathetic modernisation with a cute little terrace to sit in the morning sun (this is enclosed now too so safe for dogs). It had everything you'd need and the hosts were super helpful, stepping in when Sykes weren't returning messages. The location was perfect. Off a quiet side street in a lovely neighbourly little yard but right next to the beach and the town centre. We had an amazing stay. Sheringham is a great town for a break and we will definitely be back!

"Lovely small fisherman's cottage with lots of character."
Lovely comfortable bed with feather down bedding. Bathroom and shower was good and spacious. There was a couple of umbrellas provided in case of bad weather. Really nice touches on our arrival was, fresh milk; coffee; tea and a box of biscuits waiting for us. Neighbours are very friendly and helpful with lots of information and tips. Good fish and chips and Chinese takeaway just around the corner. The beach is only a five minute walk away and the pub is just across the road (but can be very noisy with patrons and loud music on some evenings but this usually ended at 11:00pm). There's plenty of good local shops and for steam buffs there's the North Norfolk Steam Railway nearby. Overall everything about the house was good. However, there were some issues: Only one black bag was provided in the kitchen; the DAB radio wasn't working; the freezer door in the fridge was broken; only half the toaster was working and found some marks on hand towel in bathroom.
-
"Great little cottage, friendly neighbours who gave tips where to go."
Very good location for beach and shops. Let down a little by cleanliness (very dusty in places, holes in towels and black mark on one) damaged fridge freezer. Very noisy pub on doorstep, swearing and arguments, closed at 1.30am Friday. Very low ceiling as you go up stairs where my partner banged his head. There is no warning of low ceiling on way up stairs but a duck sign on the way down. Might be an idea to warn people on the way upstairs. Loved extra touches such as milk, coffe, tea, buscuits, robes, umberellas, household cleaning products and toiletries. Could do with a spare binbag we had to buy our own.
-
"A lovely central property, we experienced all the seasons so even had a day in with the log fire and a Chinese from the local takeaway- ideally situated especially for couples or people on their own."
Not really suitable for anyone with children or big dogs. We will definitely book again.
-
"Beautiful cottage."
Very comfortable, spotlessly clean. Location perfect.

"Lovely property comfortable bed and furniture to relax in after your days out :) ..."
Lovely property comfortable bed and furniture to relax in after your days out :) property is within easy walking distance of both sea and surrounding shops museum etc ty for a lovely stay :)
-
"Lovely cosy, warm cottage in the heart of Sheringham."
Very clean and beautifully decorated. Good shower and great lighting options throughout the cottage. Everything we needed was provided and it was great to have a second TV and easy chair in the bedroom. Loved sitting outside in the mornings with a cuppa.
-
"Lovely little cottage but not particularly dog friendly - ie outside space not really sufficient for dogs."
Insufficient toilet rolls (as other reviews) another one would’ve been a bit more generous…don’t expect to buy them whilst on holiday! Also table mats would be useful and only 3 coasters in the cottage. The pub over the road did get a bit noisy but it didn’t really bother us - all very good natured!
-
"Beautiful holiday cottage in the centre of a charming seaside town."
Absolutely perfect for two people, very close to the beach and all local amenities. A minor niggle on description is that due to the property having no parking, i feel the listing would benefit from clearer explanation of the options (distances) and potential costs of parking in the area. I did my own research so as to factor in parking costs (£34 for week) in local car park.
-
"Location was good very central , the basic facilities were ok although the toaster needs replacing , the noise from the pub opposite did not bother us too much ."
.but the furnishings were really tired and uncomfortable, the bed was in need of a new mattress ,we didn’t sleep that well .
-
"Excellent, comfortable and clean accommodation, in a beautiful town, so close to the beach."
Local restaurants and cafes are great and there is plenty to do in the area. On street parking was tricky but would not stop us booking again. Points to note: Pub over the road gets a bit lively at the weekend. Was disappointed to have to buy toilet and kitchen roll when we ran out within 2/3 days, no spares provided. Owners were easy to contact and popped round straight away when we couldn't get radiator to work.
-
"A very lovely cottage clean, comfotable and cosy well apointed/equiped a delight just 2 minor points a door curtain would make it more cosy and some means to have your shower toiletries at hand not on the floor prehaps a rack ?"
Would absolutley recomend and would stay again
-
"The cottage was in prime position - a 1 minute walk with the dog to the Seafront at Sherringham."
Well decorated and very cosy. The owners obviously treat it as they would their own home. Very handy for a walk to the main streets for daily shops and restaurants as well. Because of the central nature, parking is not possible close by\ on the street but car parks are a 3 minute walk away so no problem in Autumn\ Winter.
-
"Beautiful cottage."
Very clean and well presented. .cosy aswell with everything to make our stay memorable.will definitely be returning here .
-
"The cottage listing stated all fuel included however this was not the case."
The fire was made ready for the first night and then we had to find our own logs etc. We bought logs in carry bags from Tesco's , lighting sticks and fire lighters which was an additional cost to us, however this did not spoil our stay. The cottage is very homely and well presented, also a great location to the beach, shops Pubs etc. I would differently recommend.
-
"We loved the location, furniture, decor and layout of the cottage."
However, there was a smell of damp and the grouting in the shower needed replacing. We were disappointed that the fuel for the woodburner wasn’t included as the description states all fuel is included.
-
"We loved the cottage, very comfortable and homely and looking forward to returning."
-
"Fantastic Cottage ."
Really enjoyed our stay. Although NOT really Dog friendly. No where for Tiddle breaks . And Not being able to go out for a nice meal in a restaurant in the evenings, as unable to leave dogs unattended in cottage . Although you would do this at home . Situation was fab near the beach and the best Chippy ever !!!
-
"Lovely cottage with relaxing feel to it."
Our only problem was the steep stairs up to the bathroom. We are both in our 70's and live in a ground floor flat.I did know the bathroom was upstairs, so should have realised an old cottage would have steep stairs. Anyway we had a lovely few days Thank you
-
"The property had been finished and furnished to a high standard and we particularly liked the little personal touches like the decanter of sherry and the shortbread biscuits."
The location was superb being mere minutes to the sea and Sheringham high steet. The only negative was a nearby pub that could be noisy at times.
-
"I enjoyed a relaxing week's holiday in Captain's Cottage and found the accommodation comfortable and well-equipped."
It is well maintained, although the glass in the front door has no blind on the inside. The door frame would suit a decent door curtain to would make it more cosy in the evening. There were some minor issues that could be checked and attended to at changeover: a spotlight was out, the pedal on the bin did not work, a couple of bedroom louver blinds needed minor repair. The outside area at the front of the cottage is now enclosed with a gate and metal fence since some of the photos were taken, adding privacy and it is pleasant to sit outside in the sunshine for breakfast. The proximity of the pub should be noted because their outdoor seating is very close by so there are loud voices and occasionally live music. It did not bother me but the cottage is not soundproofed (!) so it is worth considering if you are seeking an oasis of tranquillity in the evening. Other reviews mentioned biscuits and wine on arrival but that seems to have ceased, or I was unlucky. The fresh milk was appreciated nevertheless. Sheringham has lots of cottages to choose from and this one was more expensive than others I have used, but it was well located and furnished and I would stay there again.
-
"This is a wonderful cottage close to the sea & town ,pubs & restaurants."
Its clean & comfortable just spot on in everyway really
-
"A wonderful cottage in a great location near to the beach and parking."
Cannot find any fault at all.
-
"The cottage is compact but has all a couple would need."
It’s location is ideal for the town, good pubs shops and an excellent Fish and Chips place, all within very easy walking distance. Well placed for access to the coastal paths, the beach (a 10 minute walk to the areas where dogs can run free) and the steam railway.
-
"Property was a delight."
Very comfortable and had everything we needed. Central location with shops and beach on doorstep. Perfect.
-
"Beautiful Cottage, well placed for exploring the Norfolk coast."
Cosy, Comfortable Cottage for 2. Only downside is lack of parking space. Would highly recommend. Mrs Linda Woodhead
-
"Lovely cosy cottage."
Great location! Really enjoyed our week away. Would definitely recommend it and would stay there again.
-
"So sorry I meant to do this on our return but got sidetracked again."
Re our stay at the end of march in your beautiful cottage in Sheringham,it’s just the most perfect place you could wish for & more & everything about the cottage a very high standard,we absolutely loved it .Many thanks Stu & Debbie from Surrey

"Absolutely beautifull cottage, and we thank you for letting us stay we really ..."
Absolutely beautifull cottage, and we thank you for letting us stay we really enjoyed the cottage, we hope we left it clean and tidy for you, the only two things I picked up on were the tea towels they felt greasy so we didn't use them so maybe ready for renewal, and also the duvet was very yellow when stripping at the end of the stay so also maybe ready for renewal everything else perfect we would certainly stay again, thankyou again

"Our holiday at Captain’s Cottage in Sheringham was delightful."
Sheringham is a lovely small costal town with friendly dog loving locals who were most welcoming. The beach was unspoilt, wild at times with long, cold, bracing and awesome winter walks. The cottage was warm and welcoming and very comfortable. The organised layout made for a relaxing stay, with all the convenience of home but with a local, seaside cottage vibe. The deep bath was luxurious and the modern shower welcome after a cold day out exploring with one of my dogs ‘Parker’. A fluffy towel would have added a touch more luxury. I was grateful for the offer of wine and milk in the fridge, (although not needed in my case) and tea, coffee and lovely biscuits when I arrived. I found the whole stay wonderful and just what was needed; a welcome break from the pressures of the NHS (work). The hosts had left instructions for all appliances and local information to help plan my stay. Definitely recommend this clean, organised, comfortable home in a beautiful small town almost on the sea front. Thanks for a lovely holiday. Ele and Parker.
-
"Lovely, well appointed cottage, right in Sheringham and near the sea front."
It was a winter break so we were able to find easy street parking. We enjoyed exploring the coast path and the coast road. Sheringham is a good base for both and you have all the facilities of a town with the sea front only metres away. All the while having a comfortable place to return to. Would absolutely recommend.
-
"Absolutely fantastic cottage."
The attention to detail and final finishes are the best quality. Well done Captains Cottage!!! Definitely booking again.
-
"Absolutely lovely stay in a beautiful cottage."
Very cosy with a log fire every night. Brilliantly located in Sheringham, less than a minute walk to both the beach and the high street. The pub opposite does get quite noisy at the weekend, but it didn’t stop us enjoying our stay. The National Trust park is beautiful for a long walk, as is the walk along the beach to Cromer. Even though we visited in the off-season (November), Sheringham was still nicely busy, with lots of quaint boutiques and good places to eat and drink. We highly recommended Stubby’s Pizza on the high street for a proper pizza with interesting toppings We’d never been to Norfolk before, and when we return we would love to stay here again.
-
"Had to leave early due to Health reasons."
The cottage was absolutely lovely and I would recommend it to anyone. Thank-you for a warm and comfortable stay.
-
"Very comfortable & warm, beautifully decorated & as expected."
Owners responded very quickly to our queries. The light going out over the stairs was a nuisance & shame that this couldn't be fixed during our stay. Great shower, though shower screen too narrow to prevent floor getting soaked, especially if shower head was angled. As previous reviewer noted, nowhere to put soap/shampoo whilst in the shower, except on the floor. Failed the ‘plug-socket-to-mirror’ distance test which made using a hairdryer something of a challenge! Great location & noise from local pub not too much of an issue at this time of year. Lovely little cottage - would definitely recommend.
-
"Excellent accomodation ."
-
"Highly recommended."
Ideal central location with friendly and very helpful neighbours.
-
"Lovely cottage in the heart of the town, 100 yards from the beach, a great base to explore the area."
We were aware of the pub across the road and there was a bit of noise some nights but never after 11. I would definitely stay again.
-
"Outstanding cottage, furnishings to a very high standard, unfortunately the public ..."
Outstanding cottage, furnishings to a very high standard, unfortunately the public house right opposite is constantly playing loud music till closing time,it’s classed as pet friendly but no where for the dogs to do there business unless you go out to the beach, just a let down to be honest
-
"The cottage was excellent."
Very comfortable. Most impressed with the well equipped and spotless clean kitchen. The Pub opposite was a bit noisy on the Friday - live music night - but on the whole we enjoyed our stay very much.
-
"We liked the location of the property, easy access to all the shops bars cafes and the beach."
The cottage was very clean and comfortable except the couch which is passed it's best . Our neighbors in the yard were very friendly and helpful, telling us to buy a 7 day parking pass for £28 from the machine in the car park. Can be used in all North Norfolk car parks.
-
"Beautiful cottage that provided comfort & all we could of wanted to enable us to have a relaxing holiday."
Everything is on your doorstep so not far to walk to cafes, bars & the beach. The owners also welcomed us with milk, biscuits, tea, coffee & a bottle of wine! We had a wonderful holiday Thank you! :)
-
"We recently enjoyed a lovely week in The Captains Cottage, it was the perfect location in terms of the beach and local shops and whilst the local pub is very close indeed it didn’t give us any issues."
Unfortunately the ongoing problem with the door key as referenced in earlier reviews, has still not been resolved, there is a definite knack to turning it. Inside the cottage was very comfortable and the bedroom spacious and beautifully styled. A dishwasher would have been preferable to the washing machine but other than those minor points, we couldn’t really fault the cottage.
-
"Excellent layout and decor."
Very comfortable in the lounge and bedroom. Plenty of storage. Kitchen was immaculate but some utensils need replacing. Had a great time and just parked the car at the station to avoid congestion.
-
"Struggled a bit with lock on front door."
Appreciated the extra details such as wine and shortbread. Loved the location and very pleasant people to deal with.
-
"Everything was perfect, the cottage is top quality from furnishings to layout etc."
The parking wasn’t a problem for us. If we had a minor criticism it would be somewhere to stand shampoo, soap etc in the shower and perhaps have matching shutter blinds downstairs. My husband didn’t much care for the neighbours waving through the window at breakfast, but he is ultra private!
-
"I cannot recommend this cottage enough."
It has everything you need for a fantastic break and within easy walking distance of the beach.
-
"The cottage is perfect for a couple, very clean & equipped with everything you need."
Perfectly placed, close to all amenities, including some great cafes, restaurants & bars. Being a few minutes from the coast was a bonus, being able to walk on the beach every morning was brilliant.
-
"A fantastic cottage, has everything you need, very clean and close to all amenities."
I can't recommend this property enough!
-
"The accommodation was good and to a high standard, but we would not stay at the cottage again because of the very close proximity of The Windham Arms pub."
It was obviously a "locals" pub and played its jukebox very loudly, had live music and karaoke with doors and windows open and a lot of people loud and intoxicated outside. We were awoken in the early hours of Wednesday morning to a verbal and physical fracas outside the pub and up the street, (that was with our windows shut to dull the noise of the music every night). We could not sit outside the cottage because there was no privacy from the locals outside the pub who were literally 20yds away and very loud and uncouth.
-
"The cottage was up to expectation, and as we had checked it out online, we found it very easily."
I felt the glassware and cutlery could have done with a little topping up, but otherwise everything was good. There was one drawback, the pub opposite was very noisy, it wasn't a food pub, so it became noisier as the day wore on. If karaoke is your thing, then it'll be fine for you. The location was excellent and the nearest car park was very well placed too.
-
"A lovely, comfortable and welcoming cottage, in a great location."
-
"We really enjoyed staying at the captains cottage."
It was clean, well equipped and in a great location. Nice little touch touch be left some wine etc. We will defiantly stay again. Very impressed
-
"We had a wonderful stay at Captain's Cottage, the accommodation was really well presented, clean and comfortable and just a stone's throw from the sea which was ideal!"
The only negative I will mention was the noise from the pub just across the road, not really a big issue for us as it had usually died down by 10/11pm but may be something any families thinking of booking may want to consider. This obviously can't really be helped by the owners though and we still had a wonderful time so thank you!
-
"Good reliable service in all respects, thank you."
-
"The cottage itself was lovely and, was just what we needed for our week in Sheringham."
It is right in the centre and, everything is easily accessible. The cottage was nicely decorated and, very comfortable. The wine, biscuits and milk were very gratefully received!! The only negatives about the property, are (1) the lack of dedicated parking (although, we were aware of this when we booked) and, (2) the pub across the road which was quite noisy. This wasn’t a major issue for us as the pubs are still operating restricted hours. However, this maybe more of a problem when all COVID restrictions are lifted so, this should be mentioned in the details for the cottage.
-
"Everything was lovely, sad to have to come home."
We enjoyed; the cliff top and beach walks (bring your walking boots), alfresco breakfasts in the village cafes and exploring the local area. Especially enjoyed East Rushton Old Vicerage Garden and Norwich Cathedral. Things I would change; nothing other than dont forget the expiration time on the car parking as the wardens are very on the case and 10 minutes late cost me £25. Well done cottage owner and sykes. Great site and app that puts airbnb and booking.com to shame.
-
"We had a wonderful break, the hosts property is absolutely stunning a lot of care and attention has gone into it."
Also a very nice touch with the little welcome hamper. Thank you very much
-

The holiday was great accommodation spotless 2 minutes from beach there is a council car park 2 minutes up road i would advise purchasing a weekly ticket cost £28 a lot of spaces but dont know what it would be like in high season
-
"Cosy and tastefully arranged cottage, well placed for amenities and local attractions."
Plenty of space for a couple break. We enjoyed our stay at Captains Cottage very much.
-
"The standard of presentation of the property was excellent this made our stay very pleasant and enjoyable."
The weather was "bracing" but it was October.! I suspect that being in close proximity to a local Pub it may be a little noisy during the summer . Will consider booking property again in the future.
-
"Cottage was lovely, clean and tidy."
It contained everything that we required. We had a lovely relaxing break in the Captains Cottage. The only drawback was the car parking, having to keep topping up the pay & display was a pain!
-
"Lovely cottage."
Perfect for a couple break. A little home from home. Good location for the beach and the town. Planning on booking it again.
-
"Very good cottage,in great location."
Been refurbished to a high standard.
-
"The cottage has recently been renovated so it felt brand new."
The property is really well positioned in Sheringham and all amenities can be reached in a few minutes. The lack of onsite parking was a concern and initially a negative for us when we booked, however the council car park is literally 2 minutes away so no drama. Sheringham is really well set for handling Covid-19; one way stickers on the left side of the pavements; strict with how many people can go into shops & pubs; track and trace forms in all pubs and restaurants. The owners have added a little fence and gate which is an advantage with a nosey dog. Also highly recommend Corner House at West Runton - it's the next village along. They have a fantastic tea rooms which is also dog friendly!! Highly recommend this cottage.
