The four of us felt so comfortable and were able to chill out, which is what we wanted. Owners were very lovely people, (including their dogs). We would highly recommend staying here.

Our hosts provide some welcoming gifts and were very helpful during our stay. The Chequers pub a mile distant supplied excellent food and the locals were extremely friendly. The area is excellent for touring or walking or cycling {not many hills} We loved it .

  • "The Croft is a single storey cottage set in a peaceful location."

Full instructions were given by the property owners before we arrived about key collection, access to keys are easy accessible and you let yourself into the property, the owners are on hand should you require anything. The property itself is very clean and comfortable, bright and spacious. Milk and orange juice also a bottle of Prosecco were provided by the hosts a lovely touch. Everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break. It makes a great base for exploring beautiful Norfolk. Everything about the Croft is perfect and we will definitely be returning.

  • "A lovely, comfortable cottage in a picturesque location, lots of great walks without the need to drive."

The Croft was warm when we arrived on a very cold night and felt really homely. It is spacious and has everything you need including a few extras that we weren't expecting such as tea, coffee (from a machine with a good supply of pods) and toiletries. The log fire kept us toasty in the evenings and the large smart TV was great as we were able to cast programmes from our phone. The tiled floor areas were not only warm due to the underfloor heating but were also really practical for those of us with dogs. The outdoor space is great, and affords plenty of enclosed privacy. Hosts Duncan and Lucy were very friendly and helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this amazing gem in a great location.

  • "Beautiful spacious cottage."

Very light and airy. All on one level and generously sized wet room. I would recommend this accommodation also for location. We visited RSPB sites, Thetford Forest, local villages and towns on the coast. Good local pubs serving delicious food. Highly recommended!

  • "Really lovely property with loads of facilities and such nice extra touches from the owners."

Such a beautiful holiday home and a lovely area to explore. The access internally was brilliant for a wheelchair user with the wet room and open plan style but for a power chair user an external ramp would be needed to gain access to the front step of the bungalow. If this was advertised as such it could open up your property to a lot more disabled guests who could bring their own ramp.

Thank you for your very helpful suggestions which we will take note of. Very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "We had a really lovely stay at The Croft in Thompson."

The cottage was very spacious and beautifully presented throughout with quality furnishings. The kitchen was very well equipped to cook. Both bedrooms were roomy and each had access to the small decking area. Both the ensuite and main bathroom were superb. There were some thoughful touches throughout with a welcome bottle of prosecco, milk and orange juice in the fridge and little jams and condiments. Thompson is split into two with The Croft sitting with a small cluster of houses. The area is very peaceful but with the very odd military aircraft passing by. It takes about 70 mins to reach the coast but several beautiful National Trust properties are within 30-40 mins drive. Communication was very prompt with Duncan and Louise and we would not hesitate to return if we were in the area.

Very quite and out of the way perfect. Took my elderly parents so being on one level was a plus, wet room really helped. Hosts were fantastic and friendly. Lots of little extras which was very thoughtful. Highly recommend and will be going back.

About the location

WATTON

Swaffham 10 miles; Thetford 15 miles; Norwich 23 miles.

The well-served market town of Watton is in the district of Breckland, just less than 25 miles from Norwich. Perfectly positioned for access to the whole of Norfolk and North Suffolk, this town is thought to be where the 'Babes in the Wood' were abandoned in Wayland Wood. You will see on the town sign that there are two babes, and a hare jumping over the barrel reflecting the town name; wat being the local dialect word for hare, and ton for barrel. There is a traditional market held every Wednesday morning with produce including freshly caught fish, and there are two supermarkets and a number of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs to enjoy. Within reach is the popular Thetford Forest Park, a number of golf courses, other market towns and not forgetting the cathedral city of Norwich. A convenient base for your Norfolk adventure.
