  • "I didn't like the walk in shower water leaked out onto the bathroom floor which is dangerous."

There was no bucket available and the garden could do with a tidy up. We should have been able to access the property at 3.00pm but eventually entered the cottage atapprox 4.30.

Thank you for your feedback. The walk in shower in newly fitted with a high quality tray and drainage. Unfortunately we were not aware of any issues with the shower. Our phone number is clearly displayed in the Welcome pack, with the note, stating to contact us with any issues anyone may have. As everyone is aware, any shower drainage can become blocked with hair , sand , or dog hair. Just a quick call would have resolve this issue, as our emergency plumber would have arrived as a matter of urgency and checked the shower. This is quick and easy issue to resolve, if we have known about this issue. In Crab Cottage, we provide a large number of household items, but not a bucket The garden in Crab Cottage is fully dog proof, as majority of our guest holiday with their dogs.at this time of year, and it has flowers in the garden. Unfortunately, there was a delay with the cleaning due to a very busy period ,we did speak to you on your arrival and clearly explained the reason for the delay, and sincerely apologized about this. Thank you again for your feedback Property Owner

Very modern inside and we slept well in the quiet environment. The only rather picky issue I can find is that the shower is very slow! That’s it really but we would definitely go back in the future.

The cottage was just as cosy and comfortable as the last time. Its location is second to none. When I arrived I noticed the toaster was gone as it was broken and by the bin but a quick text to the owners and one was delivered that day. You cannot ask for better service if you have any problems. Just ring or text and they are always happy to help. Yet again another great week away even though it was a wet one and we will be returning again in a few months.

  • "Chairs bit wobbly and soft."

Mattress dipped. Well positioned rendering the use of the car unnecessary for access to town and beach and coastal walks. Off street parking a bonus. Dog safe garden excellent. The welcoming of dogs in shops, pubs and restaurants a real bonus. All in all glad we went on the recommendation of a friend.

  • "The cottage was a nice size, clean and enough equipment for what we require."

Pictures make it look bigger than it actually is. Our only down size was the seating area. The picture shows 1x settee and an armchair. The arm chair had been replaced by a desk chair, which after a while is uncomfortable to sit in. Great secure garden for our dogs and parking just outside is a benefit.

  • "Crab cottage is a small but comfortable cottage/apartment with everything we needed for our stay."

The kitchen was clean and well equipped. On arrival there was tea, coffee, sugar with biscuits and milk in the fridge which was greatly appreciated. The beds were also very comfortable. It was also very warm and cosy for a winter stay. To have a decent sized smart TV was great especially if the weather was not the best. The location is excellent and you can walk to everything in Wells no need for your car and the off road parking was a bonus. The garden/ courtyard was totally secure for our dog who can be an escape artist. If you have any issues (or can’t work something as in my case) the landlords are always on hand to help with a smile. I would agree with the other reviews that the back doors definitely need a proper step out as the sleeper is very slippery. The front door could also benefit from a small step as well. All in all it is one of the best holiday cottages I have stayed in and will definitely be coming back.

  • "Crab cottage is in a lovely quiet location with parking."

Disappointingly we found the inside not so good. The floors settee and chairs were clean, could see the hoover lines, beds nicely made with clean towels on them but that was it. The cutlery was filthy, as was the cutlery tray inside the drawer, plates, mugs and glasses were similar, so we spent the first hour washing up. The bathroom blind and window sill were also dirty, so more cleaning required. The oven is not fixed so can and did slide out when opening the door, this is very dangerous for obvious reasons, it works very well, just need securing in place. The general standard of decor was ok but it lacks the finishing touches, architrave not finished on loft hatch and a couple of doors, screw heads showing on skirting board, random storage space in twin room, cobbled together from three different units and screwed to the wall, doors and drawers don't close properly on wardrobe in main bedroom. We have stayed in a lot of places over the years and usually there a few basic provisions in properties, tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper etc, everything here was empty, apart from a bottle of vinegar! I understand none of this was advertised as being available but it's another tick in the wrong box! I hope the owners see this as constructive criticism, and not just a moan. Crab cottage could be so much more with just a little more work and thought. Steve and Michelle.

  • "We found the front door step very high."

It could do with a proper slab type step. The rear door was difficult as the narrow sleeper was wet, narrow and slippery. The oven was not fixed to the casing unit and was easily pulled out unintentionally. Some of the finish to the door frames in particular was unfinished.

  • "I think this property is new to Sykes and looking at the other reviews I believe the owners are taking on board the recommendations, which is good."

The property is in an excellent location in Wells, close to town centre and an easy walk to the harbour. It has a great enclosed garden for the dog and would be lovely to use in the summer. The main bed is very comfortable. The house was easy to heat but the hot water in the shower could do with being a bit warmer in November. The welcome pack was some beer which my husband enjoyed, thank you. A tea towel would be useful and maybe a small coffee table too. There was no mirror in the bathroom but one appeared whilst we were out, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable to know someone had entered the property during out stay, a call to let us know would have been preferable. This property has great potential but it needs a bit of tweaking, ie splash backs by kitchen sink, some hooks over doors. I would stay here again as I’m sure the owners will make the recommended improvements over time.

None of the appartments are either numbered or named and so are not easy to identify upon arrival (without a photo of the property). The remote control for the heating had not been updated for the clock change which meant heating came on not at the most convenient times. It lacked basics like a cafetiere, bread knife, cheese grater or sieve. The shower head was very half hearted. However, these things are easily remedied. The beds were very comfortable and the property is ideally situated within the town.

  • "Nice cottage in an excellent location with the benefit of a totally enclosed garden which was brilliant for the dog and off road parking."

Unfortunately the key code provided by Sykes was incorrect as was the owners phone number. Luckily the contact the owner function on the app had the correct number. Once I had managed to contact the owner she was very helpful. The cottage was missing an instruction manual for appliances and any local information, maybe due to previous Covid restrictions but would have been useful. The previous occupants had not cleared dog mess from up in the garden, which I had to do to ensure my dog didn’t tread in it. The TV was internet only, no live TV channels which was annoying especially when the internet was slow in the early evening and all programmes were buffering. The internet connection needs to be upgraded. I think that maybe this is a new property and certain things were lacking, mattress protectors, a decent sized kitchen bin, kitchen scissors, and a hoover to tidy up especially as dogs are allowed.

Dear Nicky, Many thanks for staying with us and for your feedback. Just to let you know that, as per our previous feedback, we have managed to install the normal TV chanells and now there is live TV available at Crab Cottage. We are so sorry that the lack of live BBC, ITV and Chanel 4 , and provision of TV through the internet so severelly spoiled your holiday in Wells . The internet at Crab Cottage is provided by the superfast BT internet. It is the fastest and most powerfull internet awailable in the area. We also will pass your comments to BT and will wait for their reply. We are very sorry that the previous guests have not checked thoughroughly the garden and some poo was left at the garden. and this significantly spoiled your holiday. We will make sure the cleaners will check the garden more thoroughly. The instruction manuals were awailable at the lower draw, in the kitchen. We are ever so sorry that lack of instruction of how to use the standart cooker and the fridge have made your holiday uncomfortable. We also will make sure that we will leave the scissors and a hover at the Crab Cottage, and are very sorry that you were unable to tidy up with the dustpen and brush provided, and it have made your holiday not very comfortable. We are really preased that you have found the cottage to be nice , in excellent location and with benefit of private enclosed garden, and hope to welcome you at Crab Cottage soon.
