"A well equipped and comfortable property ."
Pet friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
-
"We thought that the cottage was very nice."
One complaint was the shower mat in one of the bathrooms; it was filthy and should have been thrown away and replaced with a new one Apart from that we enjoyed our stay
-
"Thanks you lovely stay and close to the front which is fab."
Many thanks Vanessa
-
"Lovely accomodation, toilet seat needs tightening up."
All together one of our best holiday stays we've had. Please watch the price increases, it will become too expensive to stay in the UK.
-
"This is the first time I have stayed in this cottage having previously stayed in Crab cottage twice."
I was not disappointed and everything was clean and comfortable and had everything that was needed. I would book this cottage without hesitation again.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay at Fishmans' Retreat."
The flat was very well equipped and comfortable. In a great position for the town and the bus stop. Lovely, modern bathrooms. Close to all amenities. I'd definitely recommend.
-
"Great location, just a few minutes to the harbour and pubs, restaurants and town."
It would be helpful if the name of the building was displayed. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
-
"Wonderful Ground floor apartment, three minutes walk to the harbour, five to the High Street, pubs and there was a local Nisa supermarket."
You can park right outside. There is a step into it plus step down to the bedroom and kitchen and outside . The sofa is so comfortable, so are the beds and dining rooms seats. Lovely bedding and towels. Two great shower rooms. The kitchen utensils are basic, no tea towel or oven glove provided. The dishwasher either needs salt and rinse aid, there wasn't any to use, everything comes out cloudy . Had to wash everything by hand. The courtyard garden is pretty and private, the table needs replacing. Great for the dog, had bbq . The door to the garden is hard work to close and lock, needs looking at. The tv was a major problem, lost all channels, could only use and watch catch up channels , nothing else. Regularly didn't switch on. Would highly recommend getting crab from the van in the car park in the harbour, there daily. Dressed crab was delicious. Also the Chinese takeaway is one minute away, great food. Over all , a great holiday. Perfect weather all week, loved Wells, the apartment was comfortable in such a close location to walk to everything . The dog had a wonderful time too!

"Had a lovely stay."
Property was clean with all the facilities needed. The location was perfect a few minutes from both main town and harbour. Was a little difficult to find initially as doesn’t have a house number but located by matching listing picture. Stayed with partner and two dogs and would totally recommend

"The apartment was well positioned in Wells near the quay harbour."
We enjoyed our relaxing week in your property.
-
"Whilst the cottage lists itself as pet friendly we had to bring our own fencing to ensure the dogs didn’t escape through the holes in the hedges."
As a dog owner this was little frustrating and made the small courtyard even smaller. Also some of the bowels and plates had food residue on them so clearly hadn’t been checked after cleaning in the dishwasher. The window sills and windows in the main bedroom were not particularly clean either. Saying that we did have a lovely stay at Fishman’s Retreat with plenty of internal space and good facilities. TV was a bit temperamental and wifi streaming wasn’t great but the other facilities made up for it. Finally the step in the kitchen is a definite trip hazard. I nearly fell twice during stay and I’m fit and active. Highlighting the step with a coloured strip would help.

"This property was is wonderfully located."
A short, charming walk to the town and seafront. Excellent Chinese takeaway down the road and a well stocked Co-Op a short walk. Very clean and immaculate. Two bathrooms for a small property is the high water mark of excellence! A few niggles: there is no signage identifying the house itself or the individual apartments. I had to ring the owner for information. She answered and was very helpful, checking later that all was well. There is a step between kitchen area which is a real trip hazard. A few kitchen basics are needed: tea towels, small/medium frying pan, rack to dry dishes. Overall, though a fantastic place.

"Lovely place will come back again, measuring jug, big spoon for dishing out food would be on my packing list when I go back, that's the only thing I missed."

"Thanks for a lovely stay."
It is a wonderful location being so ideally placed for the beautiful salt marshes, harbour and beach and yet it also the convenience of the supermarket and high street. The property is renovated to a great standard and everything is so clean and I really appreciated the hard flooring with having children and dogs making it easy to maintain. The furnishings you've chosen and nice touches throughout had us feel right at home.

"We enjoyed our stay at Fishermans’ Retreat."
The cottage was well positioned for the harbour and town centre and it was a bonus to have parking. The facilities were generally good, comfortable beds and all you needed to cook a simple meal. We assume the property/ies (there’s a cluster of 3) was finished and listed in haste as it’s clear there’s still some snagging to do - ceilings need a top coat of paint in the bathrooms, tiles in en-suite were not sealed at the ceiling, skirting boards and door frames needed holes filling and final finish, amongst other little jobs that need doing. Having said that, these are minor comments for us and we would certainly book again if we return to the area.
-
"This beautifully clean property suited our needs totally."
The only reason for the 4 ratings above are down to personal choice. For example the mattress was fine for the first night but subsequent nights I found it slightly too firm. (i appreciate many people like a firm mattress. The 4 for maintenance is because the pedal on the bin didn't work but doubtless that would be quickly replaced. Highly recommended. We had flat 1. They would be different and I'm not sure from Sykes' listing if they have separate names for the listings.

"We had a lovely stay here ."
The property is well placed , just a few minutes walk to the quayside and high street. It was very clean and well appointed having everything we needed for our weeks holiday. The beds were comfortable and there is plenty of storage space for clothes and belongings. The owner was very friendly and approachable , helped us to get the tv working and provided more towels when we asked for them. The gate ( as mentioned in other reviews) has been fixed and the garden( also mentioned in other reviews) is on her to do list . Coat hooks have also been added ( another point raised in reviews) . I agree that a table lamp would be a nice finishing touch . All in all , I would say that Fisherman’s Retreat is a great place to stay and we would definitely go back .

"Lovely accommodation, looks newly renovated."
Some finishes and painting incomplete, board at bottom of bathroom sink kept falling off when door was opened. Garden shrubs rather over grown however nice little patio area. We had 2 small dogs but had to keep them on leads as open areas under shrubbery allowing them escape routes. Very comfortable accommodation and excellent location. Highly recommend it and we certainly will return.
-
"Lovely, well located cottage near to shops, bars, restaurants and the quay, Clean and well equipped with a pretty courtyard garden and on site parking."
We enjoyed lovely meals at the Globe and Bang in Wells as well as take away fish and chips al fresco in the garden.
-
"There are two steps within the property, which are not mentioned in the write up."
(between living room and en-suite bedroom and between kitchen and living room) They may only be 5-6cm high, but sufficient for someone to trip up over (we had a 93 year old with us and fortunately he grabbed the dining room table to stop himself). There were no manuals for any of the appliances in the accommodation. There was no manual for the tv and when the tv lost all channels, I had to phone the owner - who had to then find out themselves how to retune the tv, before they could phone us back to inform us. (Even though the cottage is in north Norfolk, the tv regions shown were Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire or NEWCASTLE! There were no other region options available. Not a lot of use when trying to find out the local weather)! There is also a loose ridge tile laying in the valley between the tiled roof areas at the front of the property. If this had fallen during our stay, it would have landed on our car.
-
"A delightful place to stay, very well equipped with toilet roll and hand soap by every sink and washing up liquid and sponge."
I just wanted to mention a few things. It is quite noisy in the double room due to the apartment above, it seemed to make the door rattle. The patio door did seem difficult to lock sometimes and the en-suite shower was blocked on arrival, luckily my husband sorted it. There didn’t seem to be any bedding for the sofa bed. These were minor things though and it was a lovely place overall. Great location and handy parking for one car.
-
"The gate to the garden had dropped and it took 2 of us to lift it and put the bolt across."
The patio doors are extremely difficult to shut and lock. It would have been nice to have had bath mats in the bathrooms.
-
"There were a few issues namely: The double doors into courtyard were extremely difficult to close as the left hand door had dropped."
The bolt on back gate not aligned so anyone could enter courtyard. Family bathroom toilet seat unstable. En suite shower outlet plug clogged up with grime obviously hadn't been cleaned for a while and water took ages to drain away. General observations: No welcome pack - at least milk and bread would have been nice. No iron/ironing board. Pots and pans limited. Mop and bucket would have been useful for floors. No yard broom. Information booklet minimal - contact number for nearest GP and nearest A&E are essential additions in an emergency. Having said all that, we absolutely loved Fishmans Retreat and would certainly book again in the future.
-
"We loved the apartment."
Everything was perfect, clean and tidy and it was 2 minutes walk from the harbour which was lovely. Great location, great place and we will definitely be back! Thank you.

"We have taken a 2/3 self catering breaks every year for over 25 years and by comparison found this property to be disappointing Location is great for being close to the town/quay, facilities but."
.. The property was hard to find, there is no evidence of the property name Eastdene House displayed anywhere. We guess that this may in the past have been hung on the metal frame at the front of the property which is now empty. We are quite resourceful and do have Sat Nav but even so it was not clear that we had 'arrived at our destination' The property information folder was lacking in so much that it only contained the WiFi code info and a summary of the Co-Ops opening hours and telling us there were lots of places to eat - that was it. Usually we find that there is contact information for emergency doctors, dentists, vets etc, information on re cycling, which bins to use for what on what day etc, recommendations for places to eat, information on the use of appliances, PAT testing and fire certificates for the property etc - all sadly missing all of which are reassuring The TV reception was dreadful, continually dropping the signal The property needs some TLC. No kitchen patio door window blinds, the fittings are there but no blinds, the en-suite shower ceiling is unfinished/messy and the patio doors were very fiddly to lock and unlock Parking was a bit of a free for all, we were okay but the other two apartments had a bit of a dispute as one had blocked the other in. On upset lady knocked on our door early one morning to ask if it was our car! We are still waiting to hear back from our question to Sykes sent the week before our holiday regarding a request for additional parking (which the instructions said we could request) for one night and also or the location of the key safe! Previous reviews have suggested some hooks behind the doors which the owners have reviewed and said are not necessary - these would have been a great help The garden/yard is extremely overgrown. The shrubs both by the front door and all around the yard a badly in need of cutting back - it would double the size of the yard if this was done and make such a difference. The back gate lock does not line up and prevents the yard being made secure - oaky for us but would be a worry if young children were staying there And, no hospitality tray or even a pint of milk in the fridge! In all our years of self catering there has ALWAYS been at least a pint of milk and a few tea bags waiting for us Interestingly there was no Guest Book to complete. Its always good to read what other holidaymakers thought and where they have visited/recommend and if they are return visitors Fishermans Retreat could be a fabulous property with just a little more attention to detail. The location is great, the two bedroom two bathroom facilities are a big plus and the beds are very comfortable.

"We absolutely loved the fishmans’ retreat!"
From the moment we walked in, we felt comfort, warmth and at home. We would highly recommend, the retreat is so spacious, we never felt as though we were crammed (although, there was only 2 of us plus our dog). We only stayed for a weekend, however there is a full sized fridge freezer, dishwasher, plenty of crockery, cutlery etc. We would 100% return and stay again! It’s so close to the quay, you could walk into the little town, enjoy a coffee or a wander! Also, only a short drive to the beach! Just a few things for improvement: - The living room is quite dark with no natural light, towards to evening it would be nice just to have a lamp rather than the bright ceiling lights. - The finishing touches in the rooms - in the en suite of the main bedroom, the ceiling is very shabby, a light fitting is hanging out (not dangerous) but cosmetically, it would just be more appealing to the eye if these finishing touches were complete! - We thought the garden was completely fenced and safe, however our dog managed to escape between the bushes as towards the drive, there is no fencing. (I know the listing does say to check boundaries - please do! As there was a huge bush in place, we just assumed there was no escape route however, there is!) - On arrival, it would just be nice to have tea and coffee to welcome, luckily we packed some, but just for a heads up - there’s none there! Thanks for such a lovely visit, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

"Having lived abroad for 25 years this was our first holiday since returning to UK."
We used to visit Wells-Next-The-Sea before we left and so it was good to return. Fisherman's Retreat was a delight. It was clean, comfortable and warm for a February break. It's position was excellent and the addition of a parking space was important as Wells can get very busy. The owners have done a good job in ensuring that the apartment is fully equipped. Thank you . We will be back..

"Fisherman’s Rest is great little property in a brilliant location."
The kitchen was really well equipped, the cooker was great and it’s so nice to have a full size fridge freezer. The courtyard style garden was lovely. The bed was very comfortable and there was good storage throughout. It felt rather compact for 4 adults, but we were there for two family birthdays so had extra things we wouldn’t normally take on holiday. I feel it could be improved slightly by having hooks on bedroom / bathroom doors for hanging up wet coats (we had to hang them on dining chairs to dry out which made the living room space feel even smaller). The unfinished bathroom ceiling in the en-suite let it down a tiny bit, as the rest of the property was beautifully finished. The shower itself was fantastic. Finally, some coasters and mats to protect the furniture would add a nice little homely touch. Loved the art on the walls, especially the seals! It was a little hard to find in the dark, so slightly more detailed instructions would have been great, and given its location would be very easy to provide. My husband has family in wells so knew some lovely walks from the door and showed how fabulous the location is. Parking for one car was great, and made it really easy for loading and unloading. The extra space requested was street parking. We managed fine in November. Everything worked well. The heating was simple to operate (loved the remote control!) and very effective on the few colder nights later in our stay. It was a quiet and peaceful place to stay, minutes walk from town and the quay. We would definitely stay again.

"No wifi password provided, had to contact owner as this was not on the wifi router either."
Some coat hooks would be useful. Some mattress/pillow protectors would be more hygienic going forward. Mattresses too hard for us but bedding new and clean. Toilet seat in main bathroom was broken on arrival and remained broken even after reporting it. Lightbulbs that were missing on arrival were promptly replaced. Some dog poo from previous occupant was in the front garden on arrival, perhaps the cleaners can check this area? As I had to clean this up. No live tv channels. The older generation cannot always use Netflix and tv apps. Our neighbours were clearly struggling with this issue.
Dear Sara, Many thanks for booking with us. We really enjoyed meeting you both and your lovely dog, when we visited to change light bulbs. Also many thanks for your review. Just to respond to your review: Appologies for the delay in tightenning the fitting for the toilet seat. Unfortunatelly our plumber was booked up for a week or so, during your stay, and was unable to attend the property at a short notice. The situation now has been resolved. Also , based on your advice, we have installed Live BBC, ITV and Chanel 4 chanells. They are all working now. There are two wardrabes at the property , so plenty of availability to hang coats. Also we added mattress/ pillow protectors , on your advice. The mattresses at the property are new and of high hotel quality, appologies that they were too hard for you. We also asked the cleaners to check public front garden every week, to collect any possible dog poo. Many thanks again for your stay. We hope to see you soon. With best wishes, Jim and Inna.
