  • "A lovely relaxing retreat in a charming traditional cottage."

The owners were friendly and accommodating. A spacious kitchen/dinning area and lounge. The kitchen is fully furnished with about every utensil you need. Off the beaten track, with country roads to walk your four-legged friend for miles. Located In easy reach of many places to see. Fully enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Luckily we only used one of the upstairs bedrooms as steep stairs and low beds in 3rd bedroom but for our party it was everything we could wish for. Dogs loved it too. Host very friendly and welcoming.

Perfectly rural and plenty of good dog walks surrounding. We visited Thetford forest and Holkham beach easily, both of which were very welcoming to our pups. Wonderful location and very welcoming owners, would happily stay here again.

  • "Lovely looking cottage and the host is friendly and helpful."

The only downside is the steep stairs - it was made clear in the description that there would be steep stairs, however you don’t realise just how steep until you’re actually at the property. The upstairs bedrooms are not suited to very young children despite having a stair gate at the top of the stairs. It is not suited to old people either. My 2yr old and 7 month old had to stay in my room downstairs - luckily the bedroom is more than big enough to accommodate us all but it was still far from ideal. I just simply couldn’t carry my baby up and down the stairs and my 2 year old is too scared to go up and down by herself. I myself had to walk backwards to get down the stairs, and it was difficult getting up and down without holding the stair rail. My in-laws are in their 70s and they also struggled staying in the twin bedroom due to the stairs. Other than that we had a nice stay. The property is in need of a deep clean though. I have a habit of wiping everything down (chairs, tables, handles etc) when I stay somewhere due to my 2 year old touching everything in sight. The wipes were absolutely filthy by the time I was done wiping. There was a substantial amount of dust on shelves, wall art, ornaments etc. Cobwebs on bathroom ceiling. Overall not a bad place to stay, but requires a deep clean and only recommended for couples or families with older children.

very curious owner/care taker. we enjoyed walks with extended family. the collection of cars in varying stages of restoration was an additional attraction. everything was perfect. The smallest of the beddings is worth mentioning in the listing, as it is extraordinarily constrained.

The owner was very lovely and helpful. It is however in need of a little updating. The bathroom particularly. There is also a dreadful problem with flies, which really should be addressed, and lots of fly spray provided until the problem resolved. Other than that , it honestly is a lovely place and we enjoyed our time there.

  • "Genuinely beautiful building, but the stairs to the two bedrooms upstairs are challenging to manage, and I imagine not compliant with building regulations."

Impossible with an infant in arms. The bathroom needs to be updated, old, tired, wonky loo seat, and unsuitable for the number of guests. The living and kitchen area are superb (and downstairs bedroom good) but creaky doors, floors, and stairs throughout. Kitchen equipment could do with deep cleaning. We battled with plagues of house flies, hundreds of them every day, every night, a real problem, windows and doors could do with fly screens, and other methods of control being made available (Fly tapes, sprays etc) it really was unpleasant. There is no way this property could accommodate 7 people as advertised, I booked for five, thankfully one could not make it, It was full at three adults and one infant

Fresh eggs from the hens was a surprise bonus. The only drawback was the intermittent Wi-Fi and tv signal, but we understand that if you are living in the remote countryside with lots of tall trees, that’s to be expected. We would definitely recommend this place.

  • "The setting was lovely & quiet."

The converted barn was really lovely. The 3rd bedroom was tiny - more suitable for little children & not my teens who kept bumping their heads. The stairs up was steep & narrow. The kitchen was well equipped & there were fresh eggs to buy every day from the free roaming hens which was lovely. There was plenty of jot water but it was hot, & the shower mixer tap was tricky to use in order to get the temp right. We didn't expect to be so close to other rental cottages & hope our kids n dogs weren't you noisy for them. The location was v rural & we did lots of driving every day (50-60 mins each way) to reach places of interest: beaches, country estates etc that were also suitable for dogs. The local supermarkets are large & about 10mins away in Swaffham. We had a really lovely time & a welcome break away from the craziness of our normal busy lives.

  • "We had a lovely stay at stable cottage and was central to all the places we wanted to visit."

Lovely setting and the kids loved visiting the horse and chickens each morning. The owner was friendly when we saw him and very much left us to our holiday. The cottage was lovely and as described, however it could really benefit from a second lavatory or an en-suite in the main bedroom as with 5 of us staying, one bathroom/toilet wasn't enough at times. The upstairs kids bedrooms would really benefit from some sort of blinds for the skylights as evenings and early mornings can be very bright. However these are just suggestions and didn't get in the way of enjoying our stay.

Kitchen equipment was great had everything you needed. Could have done with some blinds in the up stairs bedrooms so as to block out sunlight which woke children early. Also, no animals to feed as stated in some of the reviews. Very remote so car is essential. Over all a good holiday but will not be re-visiting.

  • "This cottage is advertised as accommodating 6-7 people - it does not!"

Sleeping arrangements are poor - there is one adequate double bedroom and one room with twin beds that are actually beds but the third bedroom is very poor indeed with 'beds' on the floor under the eves of the roof. The stair case to the mezzanine floor very steep and frankly quite frightening to use. The kitchen is overall well equipped but the toaster could be upgraded from 2 slice to at least a 4 slice toaster to accommodate 6-7 visitors. The lighting in the living room was either too bright (there are just too many ceiling lights) or not bright enough if the table lamp is used - another lamp in the living room would make some difference - but there are limited sockets in this room that may be the cause of this problem. The furniture is dated and the (leather look) plastic sofa's are damaged and could be upgraded also.

There is a great space downstairs with a large well equipped kitchen, lovely lounge and large main bedroom Our children enjoyed regular trips to the horses and chickens in the safe and secure garden. The things we did struggle with was the low headroom when climbing the stairs and the creakiness of the upstairs floors. • "The cottage was a little more remote than we had anticipated with very narrow lanes around it but it had good access to A47 which took us pretty much everywhere we needed to go and a newly built Co-op with petrol forecourt were very useful."

There were an additional 2 holiday apartments opposite stable cottage - both occupied but we heard nothing from them. The cottage itself was beautiful and really well-equipped with many additional features not listed - games, iron and ironing board, bakeware, barbecue and huge Amerucan-style fridge freezer.. There was ample storage throughout in genuine period furniture. The house"pet" was an unexpected addition - look up to the beautiful vaulted and beamed ceiling to see him. Don't worry, he won't cause any harm! As this was accomodation for 7 people, we would have appreciated a second bathroom /shower room or at least another toilet. This is really nit- picking, but the knives were pretty unusable - totally blunt and no vegetable, paring or serrated bread knife. We did struggle preparing meals with them! But as I said - nit picking. Watching our dogs skid like Bambi on the laminate floors gave us an inordinate amount of pleasure! The kitchen and stone floors were amazing _ with two sets of patio doors leading to the courtyard garden which is considerably more established than the photos imply (especially from the outside of the cottage.) The grounds were beautiful and we really enjoyed visiting the horses. This was our second Sykes holiday and we remain very impressed with the quality and personal touches of your cottages. Better than other companies we have used before and the Norfolk guide emailed by Sykes ahead of our holiday was very useful. Highly recommended. Thank you Sykes.
