  • "Rhianfa, is a lovely cottage, right near Aberdaron (10 min walk)."

It had everything we needed for the week, but it was looking a bit unloved inside. The main concern was that it allowed dogs, but there was no enclosed space in the garden for dogs, the could easily run out into the road. but we enjoyed our time at Rhianfa.

  • "The property is very tired and unloved, cobwebs, stained sofa cushions, broken windows that won’t open, a leaky conservatory in 3 places; one right in the doorway to the living room so becareful if it rains!"

The worktop joint in the kitchen is quite big and has food down it, one of the ovens didn’t work, in the conservatory only 1 of the 3 ceiling lights worked and the ceiling fan didn’t work, a stain on the downstairs bedroom carpet looks like a radiator leak but is still splashed up the skirting board, the BBQ was unusable, and thankfully we took a travel cot the cot provided is a death trap! There was a no welcome pack provided, we discovered on the second to last day information behind the kitchen waste bin, the owners aren’t the ones that maintain it and it is very clear, it’s such a shame as it could be a lovely lovely place. The outside shower/wc, although basic as it’s an outside shower and wc (expect spiders!) was actually better than the inside shower and a great addition as there was 6 adults and a child staying! My husband and I used this over the inside shower. The garden is lovely and a suntrap, several wooden table and benches provided which was also a nice addition. I was hoping this would be a property we could visit year on year but sadly we won’t be rebooking unless improvements I and other reviews have highlighted.

The house had everything that we needed. It was so comfortable and the garden and conservatory where we seemed to spend most of our time due to the amazing weather was perfect. We will definitely be going back. In fact we are already looking at dates for next year. It’s a short walk to the village and the beach. And its location is stunning.

  • "The property was warm and had been cleaned."

It is obvious that this was once a lovely house with nice things, unfortunately a gross lack of maintenance and neglect means you share the house with spiders, woodlice and ants. They probably crawl in through the cracks in the bottom of the ground-floor bedroom wall, the leaking conservatory door or any of the ill-fitting doors. The table cloth on the dining table was too small to cover the table and despite being washed and ironed it had what appeared to be rust stains on it. The cupboard in the dining room is tied together with ribbon and wool and upon opening it one finds spider-webs akin to a Halloween film and some copper pipes. The furniture is terribly stained especially the conservatory furniture and even the loose cushions and the living room pouffee look dreadful. We had rain during our stay and quickly discovered the conservatory roof and doors leaked. The glass roof is also covered in algae. The downstairs bedroom carpet must have once had a leaking radiator this is evidenced by the brown staining spreading out across the room. The seal on the shower screen has red/black mould in it and during a shower the water backs up until you are standing in 3-4 inches of water. This was remedied when my husband pulled out enough hair and slime out of the plug-hole to fill a pint pot. The basin is cracked and bathroom cabinet is old and the MDF is swelling. The paint is peeling down the side of the sink and the toilet flush broke whilst we were there. However, this was fixed quickly by a plumber. Beware the pan rack that has been hung in the bathroom, it is broken and has arms that when down can be walked into causing painful bruises to the shoulder as one of our party discovered. The shower is powerful and hot, so has presumably been fixed since previous guests stayed. The second bathroom is not fit for purpose, its essentially a brick built shed in the yard with a corrugated plastic roof and a mirror so rusty it should be sent to mirror heaven. It is accessed from the house via the kitchen, through the lean-to porch, into the yard, past the builder's debris (the house next door is being renovated by the same owner). Many of the doors didn't close, the book case looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and should probably be decluttered and fixed to the wall. The standard lamps also lean precariously and the shades have cracked and split. The light and fan inthe conservatory doesn't work at all. There are way too many bibles in the house, one of which had a cover that was no longer attached and dated back to 1832. The house accepts dogs, but be warned they cannot be let into the garden unaccompanied as this is not a secure garden and despite it leading out onto a small road cars, quad bikes and tractors do travel quickly along it. One of the upstairs double rooms has a wooden cot in it. This cot is a threat to life, it is falling to bits meaning the bars exceed the width recommended for an infant to safely sleep in it (i.e they could get their head stuck through the gaps). I have advised Sykes of the issues and they are awaiting a response from the owner. The single room with the hot water tank has a chipboard shelf that is falling down on one end, it still has rail and coat-hangers clinging to it. This room also has a curled rug (trip hazard). The washing machine, dishwasher, cooker and heating all work well and there are sufficient pots and pans.

  • "We have stayed at Rhianfa a number of times now over the span of 15 years, and have many happy memories there."

However, we’re disappointed by a lack of investment in its up keep, with simple things needing some love and attention. The shower is really poor, and to have a mop stationed in the conservatory for its many leaks, rather than having these repaired is poor considering the price paid for the bank holiday week. We left a list of small snags that a handy man should sort and I am happy to send this in to you electronically if you require?

  • "The cottage is in a lovely location within walking distance to the beach and Aberdaron."

The cottage is clean but a bit dated. The only downside was the bath and shower. The hot tap (which also controls the shower) only moves one quarter of a turn so consequently there is no power to the tap or shower. The shower was a drizzle and to be honest I doubt you could run a bath as it would be cold by the time you got in it. There was only myself and my husband staying at the property so we coped but if 8 people were staying I think the shower routine would take a long time. What is weird the water pressure from the taps over the sink is extremely powerful so I think there is something not quite working with the bath/shower pressure. Apart from this the property is lovely.

  • "Disappointing."

On arrival the yard was full of builders rubble and waste material strewn everywhere. The cupboard where you get the key from is full of loose food waste that has been there for months. Not the best impression. Overall the inside of the property is good. But little things let it down for example the oven gloves are old and no longer fit for purpose, the tea towels are tatty, the curtains in the front facing bedrooms would benefit from better linings as the light streams in from the street light. Just a few things would make a big difference.

  • "We had a fantastic week staying at Rhianfa."

The house was clean, comfortable and well presented and had everything we needed for the week. An ideal location for Aberdaron and the beach, just a 10 minute walk. Plus plenty of walks from the door along the coastal path or through the lanes across the peninsular. We enjoyed relaxing in the warm and sunny conservatory, and reading about the history of the house and its owners. We would stay at Rhianfa again, a lovely house in a peaceful location.

  • "We had 5 adults and 2 children stay, age ranging from 83 to 4 months and whilst the property is in a prime location to walk into Aberdaron village and the garden is lovely to sit in, that's about it."

We arrived expecting some sort of uncleanness from reading previous reviews, but that wasn't the worst of it. We were unable to put anything in the bins due to them overflowing, we actually spoke to the bin men who said the bins were contaminated and wouldn't be emptied until the owner sorted it. The indoor shower was/is broken and I had to waste a day of our holiday arranging a time and waiting for a plumber (this still wasn't fixed). We had to shower outside (which isnt bad if you're used to a camping block) but we had to clean the drainage and plughole ourselves because they were full of dirt and hair. There are curtains held on by string, no latches on the windows, the hoover was full and stank of wet dog, stains on the pillows and towels, and the specified BBQ was mouldy. We communicated with the cleaners about the shower and the bins, and whilst they were pleasant enough to speak to, we had no communication of anything being resolved whilst we were there, so hopefully they'll be fixed for the next renter! It's a real shame because the property could be so lovely if the owner took even a little bit of care.

There was washing left in the machine and no toilet roll. The garden was lovely but not fully enclosed at the sides for my two dogs, so it was easy for them to get out on to the lane. I booked for 7 days but returned home after the 3rd.

  • "We really liked the downstairs arrangement with the dining area, living area and conservatory."

The upstairs would have been much improved if there had a been a bathroom there. One inside bathroom for a 5-bedroomed house was just not adequate. The outside toilet/shower room was unattractive and not too clean. There was one half roll of toilet paper in the house when we arrived and no dishwasher tablets - most rented properties provide some of each. We would recommend that the owner considers putting a notice on the recycling room to emphasise when the bins need to be put out. We didn't see the notice in the house until it was too late.

Just a 10 min walk to the beach and out of season it was lovely and quiet. Great pub terrace overlooking the beach with friendly staff at Ty Newydd. The cottage was very comfortable with everything we needed. As ever with a holiday property there were minor issues (dripping kitchen tap, weak shower flow, sticking outside door, minor leak from the conservatory roof, vacuum not working up very well) but nothing that detracted from a relaxing stay. Great base to explore Pen Llyn and would definitely come back. We were nice and cosy even in the 70mph storm on one day.

The conservatory roof leaks in on top of you and makes the floor very slippery (SLIP HAZARD) It would not cost the earth to make this property as good as what you are expecting it to be and then this would be an outstanding place to stay.

The property

A lovely, detached coastal property set in its own gardens and enjoying some lovely countryside and coastal views, located just on the outskirts of the beautiful little fishing village of Aberdaron, which is situated on the Southern tip of the stunning Llyn Peninsula.

This property is perfect for family holidays and is the ideal base for exploring the area and creating some wonderful memories to take away with you after your time here.

This delightful cottage offers welcoming, comfortable and homely holiday accommodation, arranged over two floors and within a short stroll of the village and sheltered sandy beach.

There is a light and bright walk through sitting and dining area, with stripped wood flooring, making it a very sociable space to sit and relax, or for watching your favourite family movie.

On those chillier evenings the warming multi-fuel stove is a great addition to the sitting and dining area, with an extendable table to accommodate everyone where a family meal becomes a banquet with the dancing flames and crackling of logs on the open fire.

The well-equipped kitchen, with granite worktops and double electric range cooker will certainly please the chef in the family.

The cottage has five bedrooms, including a king-size double on the ground floor which boasts two windows overlooking the lovely garden, the other four bedrooms are arranged on the first floor, and all enjoy a pleasant view.

All the bedrooms are serviced by one family bathroom on the ground floor, but there is an external wet room which is great for when you are coming off the beach.

A wonderful fully glazed conservatory leads off the sitting room and opens to the garden, providing a lovely spot for taking in the beautiful coastal views, or for reading the paper and enjoying a morning cup of coffee.

It also provides an ideal vantage point to watch the younger members of the family play in the garden, a perfect place for them to run off any excess energy they may have left after a day of building sandcastles and exploring the hidden coves and rock pools.

There are some lovely walks close by, many of which link up to the Welsh Coastal Path, opening up miles of unspoilt coastal and cliff top walks.

Visit the famous Whistling Sands beach or the superb surf beach at Hells Mouth.

The marine visitor centre in Aberdaron is also well worth a visit or have a leisurely lunch at one of the local village pubs.

Close by are the popular resorts of Abersoch and Pwllheli, and the stunning Caernarfon castle, which are well worth exploring.

Further afield but within driving distance is the Italianate village of Portmeirion, the wonderful Snowdonia National Park, and the Isle of Anglesey.

This cottage is in a great location for enjoying the many coastal resorts as well as offering easy access to many of the attractions in this area, providing a wonderful base for all the family, anytime of the year.
