"Though I never recommend anything because my choice isn’t everyone’s, I was totally happy with my stay."
The setting was magical in the best possible way. I had a small difficulty with the deep step as I have some mobility issues but I coped. Previous recent reviews showed problems with damp, which concerned me before I got there but there was no damp that I could find.. Everything worked as it should. Thank you to the owners for a great holiday.

"This was a lovely unique place to stay."
The cottage was delightful and secluded with spectacular views. The rooms were well laid out and the fabulous high ceilings give an even greater sense of space. The beds were comfy, showers good and the kitchen was well equipped. Would highly recommend this cottage and happily go back again. NOT FOR PUBLIC BUT JUST DIRECT FEEDBACK: We also wanted to share a few thought for improvements - the windows are clearly in need of some work - repainting frames / replacing some hinges but I’m guessing this is a work in progress. There were a lot of flies around - if this is a frequent issue then maybe providing a UV light fly zapper would be useful. Some of the floorboards in the master bedroom need sorting. The 2 front bedrooms were a little damp and my daughters fleece, that was used as a bed for her cuddly toy dog, inside the bedside table came out very musty smelling at the end of the week. A fuller list of kitchen equipment on the website would be helpful - we actually brought our air fryer with us but were pleased to see one there. Also might be worth mentioning on the website that there is a public footpath directly outside so important to bring a dressing gown! Finally an outdoor tap would be useful for rinsing off sandy things. Hope that is helpful feedback.

"West/East Cottage at Point Lynas Lighthouse has been a go to destination for us for many years now and we have many happy memories of holidays here and of the former owners who are now sadly missed."
When you book at a property that was built in 1835 you expect it to have the patina of a bygone age with some modern additions and on the whole if this is your first visit that is what you will get. However if you are a returning visitor since the change of ownership then you will observe clear signs of decline. Prices have risen significantly (we do recognise there have been increases across the board in this sector) but standards have dropped since the change of ownership. The location is still stunning and the hospitality in the past has been outstanding however on this visit there were a number of issues which could not be ignored. The previous ownership seemed to have in place a rolling programme of repair and refurbishment however on our arrival our first (and lasting) impression of the property, particularly externally, was of malaise and neglect. Broken cattle grid, gates and fences broken and discarded in the field, inadequate refuse facilities with rubbish blowing all round the compound, having to clear up used tissues and sanitary products from the yard and around the doors was not appreciated. One wheelie bin with it’s lid missing and a tote shoved in the top to stop access by birds and rodents (doesn’t) is not sufficient for a week’s rubbish from two holiday cottages. The back door to the cottage would not lock from the outside and this was reported to Menai but not actioned before we left. Though not unappreciated the welcome pack certainly lacked the care, charm and hospitality of the former owners and was very box standard. The pillows on the bed are well past their sell by date and provision of hand and bath towels seemed somewhat mean compared to what we were used to. Dishwasher tabs provided are cheap and don’t work so suggest you take your own, we bought new. We feel saddened as this is a place we love and have always felt welcome and valued as visitors but will be considering where we spend our hard earned cash in the future. To the previous owners thank you so much for some great holidays and wonderful memories, to the current owners the place is looking shabby and standards have dropped so you need to step up as you have some big boots to fill. Having said all that it’s possible the new owners are assessing their options for the property before work is put in place, we certainly hope so as the once gleaming white buildings on the headline are looking very grey and sad this year. How sad it is that The Coastal Watch people seemed to have been evicted from the headland too, they were always a wonderful source of conversation and information on tides and wildlife.
Thank you for taking the time to compose such a thoughtful review of your recent stay in West Point cottage. We completely understand your disappointment in finding that the previous owners have sold up and are enjoying a well-earned retirement after their hard years service at The Lighthouse. We also stayed in both cottages under their ownership and we agree that they added a special X-factor to our stay with their charm and hospitality. The appearance of the property has not changed significantly in the 10 months of our ownership. We are more than aware of the long list of jobs which need to be undertaken and have to evaluate where to place it in the list of maintenance and refurbishments which we wish to carry out. Since our arrival, we have been rolling out a list of maintenance jobs; providing beautiful outside seating for the cottages, replacing cookers, washing machines, repainting interiors, changing chairs and bedding, along with repairing plumbing and boiler issues. The cattle grid you mentioned is a way from our boundary and owned by a local farmer. We ensured it was repaired to a serviceable condition the same day, which was all we had control over I'm afraid. Our only ambition for point Lynas is to make it an exceptional and authentically unique place to stay for our valued guests. Due to the increases in the costs of running a holiday let, we have had to make slight increases in the prices Our amazing housekeeper agreed to stay on with us and provides the exact same service which you would have experienced previously in terms of towels provided and complimentary provisions. The litter which you saw is very unfortunate, but hopefully you can understand the problems of waste disposal in such an exposed location. Guests have lidded stack boxes for their recycling and due to a change in general waste laws we haven't yet been provided with an industrial bin, although we requested it weeks ago. Whilst we cannot at this moment in time, live on site and provide the welcome of the previous owners, we hope to in the future. Suggestions as to changing pillows, are however actionable and we thank you for the feedback. We also certainly haven't evicted anyone , the Costal Watch or others from any of the areas surrounding the lighthouse. They were part of a deal struck by the previous owners which had a timeline and which we haven't been involved with, we'd be happy to welcome them back should they so wish. To conclude, we are deeply saddened by your feedback. It is very difficult to read criticisms of a place which is so special, in terms of its spectacular peninsula location, its historical relevance and local heritage. We still receive wonderful feedback from staying guests, but often the negative voices shout loudest and when they involve issues beyond our control it does detract from our vision for the Lighthouse cottages. "Generally very good, location is everything!"
The outdoor area was very neglected, weeds everywhere, rubbish, and the bbq literally fell to bits when we tried to move it. In the kitchen above the washing machine was a note saying it was broken and that sykes had been informed, the note looked as though it had been there a while, and no effort was made to repair or replace it during the week.. In the bathroom the hot tap into the feature bath didn't work, and around the property some light bulbs were out.. we enjoyed our stay but with a bit more effort it could be so much better.

"This is an extremely special place to be able to stay."
It is an old building and I can only imagine that keeping it going must feel like a constant battle against the elements: there probably will always be some kind of maintenance issue. I'd read in other reviews that you have no control over the heating so I was anticipating being cold, but it was lovely and warm: far too warm to consider lighting the fire! The kitchen of West Cottage is huge and very well-equipped and the living room has superb sunset views when the weather cooperates. There are fantastic dog walks along the coastal path in both directions; the inland walks were more challenging with bogs and stiles. The little bay is almost lake-like and feels so safe for swimming. I had a wonderful week and would hope to visit again.

It has everything that you need for your stay. There was even a real Christmas tree in the lounge, lovely! The milk in the fridge and christmas treats provided by the new owners upon arrival were very welcome. A place to definitely return to again.
