  • "Disappointing stay."

The property was unexpectedly cold when we arrived. We were provided with a few pieces of damp wood to get started with the log burner, but it wasn’t enough to even get us through the first night. The house has heating, but the thermostat is kept in a locked box and you have to text the owner when you want it to be switched on. I felt uncomfortable having to ask someone on Whatsapp for the house to be warmed up. For the price I paid I just wanted to stay in a cottage where I could disconnect from being online and using technology for a week, so did not appreciate needing to use WhatsApp to ask to warm up the cold house. The cleaning products and hand soap were empty, which I was told would be addressed with the cleaner but I didn’t hear anything further. We bought our own cleaning products and found that the kitchen sides were dirty. The coat stand fell over when anything was hung up. It almost hit my dog and also narrowly missed hitting my partner in the head on both occasions that we hung something up on it. When communicating with the owner about my concerns above, she just referred to the positive reviews that had been left before and I would have appreciated if more was done to acknowledge my concerns and to rectify the points I had raised.

We’re sorry to see this review. The Hive heating is on a timer and is set to come on from 7am until 9am,and then again from 4.30pm until 10pm, the thermostat is set at 21 degrees for these periods. If the temperature drops below this, during these times, the heating will come on automatically. It states in the information folder, that If guests need it on longer, or throughout the day, they can message us and we are happy to adjust this, as we did for your stay when you requested. Our guests comfort is a top priority. Complimentary logs, kindling and fire lighters are provided for all guests, it’s down to guest to buy their own logs after these have been used. Logs can be purchased locally. All essentials are supplied, including tea, coffee, hand soap, washing up liquid and a sponge. After checking with the cleaner, these were supplied as standard and the soap had been refilled before you arrived. To say the place was not clean is very upsetting. We have a fantastic cleaner and the cottage was fully cleaned prior to your stay. Impeccable cleanliness is an essential standard we have at the cottage. All our other guests have rated cleanliness very highly, we find it hard to understand why it would be any different for your stay. We have not been made aware of any issues with coat stand previously and we have used it ourselves without it ever falling over. It is a modern coat stand and when checked after your stay, was absolutely fine. At the time of your stay, you were expecting a dishwasher to be installed at the cottage, which was incorrectly listed by Sykes. This was something we couldn’t resolve during your stay, and you were compensated. I understand this was too much of a problem for you, and has resulted in this negative review. Were please to say we do now have a dishwasher installed for guests. As stated at the beginning, we’re sorry to see this review. You’re the only guests who’ve stayed in the Cottage and have not been happy, with their stay. Property Owner
