  • "A very conveniently placed cottage for exploring this picturesque and historic area of Wales."

It was very warm and comfortable and had everything you would need for a pleasant stay. The garden was private and spacious and my two dogs loved it. Our hostess greeted us when we arrived and we were extremely grateful for her help with a non standard request made prior to our visit. I have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

There was everything in the property that you could ever need. It is a beautiful property in a fantastic area. I just wish we could have stayed longer. Myself, my son and my grandson, even our two dogs, had a wonderful stay. It was nice that Sam came to visit, and he didn't seem to want to go home. Even the cows in the next field were friendly. The garden was magnificent and gave my grandson and two dogs hours of fun running around. I cannot rate this property and the owners too highly. They deserve 10 stars, not the 5 stars maximum.

From the hosts to the facilities, what more do you need for a break away from everything. Yes, you are near a ‘main’ road but using all the facilities in the properties means you won’t hear this. We spent just short of a week in the property and enjoyed all it had to offer. The hosts were very amenable and nothing was too much trouble. The only thing I would say is that the two single beds are not the most comfortable so leave these for the kids if you’re taking them along.

. very comfortable and enough room for our two dogs..easy access to reach, towns, beach's, country walks and national parks..as there is an A road on your doorstep..just be aware of that!! if you are looking for complete peace and quiet...we didn't utilise the garden as much as we would of liked due to traffic noise at times ..but we chose to sightsee and visit different places each day..and where the west wing is positioned its great for that

  • "The West Wing is a lovely house/cottage in a lovely rural setting."

Easily accessible by road. The place itself was spotlessly clean and has some beautiful furniture and pieces of art, decoration and antiques in it. The lounge and kitchen/diner were especially lovely rooms to spend time in. We had a very relaxing break there and would certainly recommend it to others as a place to escape too. The area surrounding the house provides much to see, walks and lots to explore. If you are asking what could be improved: (1) The beds was perhaps the main thing. These were not overly comfortable, and better beds would have uplifted our stay. (2) The main garden whilst it appears fully fenced in, on arrival we were told that there are some gaps in the hedge which do lead out onto a main road. This meant we couldn't get the dogs run freely in the garden but had to supervise them. Ensuring the garden is fully enclosed would be great. (3) Finally, the house is beautifully decorated and has many lovely pieces of decoration around the place. If you are staying here with younger children, dogs like us, etc you might want to do a sweep and lift some of these up out of the way to avoid damages! But overall, we had a lovely time, and a very pleasant stay. The couple that run the place (they live next door) were friendly, although a tip for those arriving, it is best not to arrive earlier than the stated time, as cleaning will still be in progress.

The sofas were comfortable and the TV huge. The large gardens were explored by our cat and he amused himself going out one door and racing around to the next doors. The kitchen was well stocked with enough utensils, fridge freezer space to cook up family meals. The beds were comfortable and the pillows, duvets etc of the highest quality. We were amazed by some negative feedback in the visitors book. The person mustn’t have seen any photos and remarked it was overcrowded with bric a brac! Personally, I am surprised that the owners trust people with such beautiful expensive pieces. They even had problems with the curtains and cords. There were blinds available which they probably didn’t observe! This property is unique, with lots of space and privacy. I only hope selfishly that it remains a well kept secret so we can book again. The owner, Jane, could not have been more helpful, and gave us maps of the area, and showed us walks where we could take our old arthritic dog, who can no longer get over styles. She also brought over lots of extra floor rugs because his paws were slipping on the beautiful floor tiles. She also lit a fire for us so we were greeted with a lovely warm lounge. You are only a few miles away from the OFFA DYKE trail, which even though the weather was absolutely abysmal, we still had some lovely walks through the Clywdian hills. The only downside for us, was that the mattresses were far too soft and dipped, leaving us with back ache, and the duvet too hot for us, and,no matter how many table lamps you put on, the lighting was still so dismal throughout, that it remained too gloomy to lend itself to comfortable reading. Shame. The property is also situated on a main road with a huge front private garden, but there is no fence, only a hedge between it and the road, so we were anxious for the dog to be wandering out there on his own. It was also very noisy and not the quiet of the Welsh hills that we were hoping for. Having said that, if you are not into reading, there was a wonderfully large TV with Netflix access and lots of DVD's and In spite of the personal niggles, I would definitely recommend the West Wing to families with children, walkers and couples of all ages.

  • "Thi is a beautiful well furnished holiday let."

We were extremely comfortable and the furniture, pictures, books and ornaments added to our enjoyment. It was a pleasure to cook in the well equipped kitchen with quality appliances and there was an abundance of crockery and glasses. It was lovely to relax and eat lunch on the patio where there was variety of shrubs and trees just beginning to bud.

  • "This was the best cottage I've stayed in in 25 years!"

Besides doing the basics - spacious, warm (from underfloor heating plus woodburner) and clean - it was a very interesting layout (including a minstrel's gallery!) with a great variety of individualized and well-designed spaces to relax, read, play games with your kids, or even get away from your kids. But it what was inside that made it utterly gorgeous: from the features and furniture to the beasts on the wall, from the book-lined corridor to the baby grand piano, this was a house created for and by a couple who really understood good architecture and the joy and variety of life! And all of that is before you enjoy the gardens and multiple seats to catch the sun, or explore the graceful Denbighshire hills within view... So, if you want vacant soulless minimalist hotel-room style cottages, don't come here: but if you want an adventure, a romance, relaxation, fun, then book early, book often! And the owner is always on hand, very friendly and knowledgeable to boot! Thank you for giving us this gorgeous place for a week

About the location

BODFARI

Denbigh 4 miles; Mold 12 miles; Chester 25 miles.

The small village of Bodfari is peacefully located in the lovely Vale of Clwyd, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, beneath the imposing Clwydian Hill Range. Steeped in history, the village has taken on many roles, such as a Celtic camp in 500 BC and a Roman encampment, while the original Church of St Stephen pre-dates the Norman Conquest. Today, this pleasant village is home to a pottery gallery, whilst the surrounding area boasts a range of good country pubs and eateries. The Offa's Dyke Pathway is easily accessible and the ancient market town of Denbigh, with its celebrated 13th century castle and pretty streets littered with shops, pubs and restaurants, is just 4 miles away. Endless, beautiful countryside surrounds this lovely area, which offers excellent walking, cycling, fishing, and nature and bird watching opportunities. This is a wonderful base from which to explore the whole of North Wales and the Roman City of Chester.
