"This was our 4th visit, and we have already booked for next year, so we obviously like the property."
It's very warm and cosy, apart from the lounge seating. We, and many previous guests, have mentioned the chairs are VERY uncomfortable. Two 2-seater cottage couches can be picked up cheaply and readily. My 300 year old cottage has a few small rooms and I have never had any problems in picking up small settees from auction or charity shops. I would beg the owners to redress this problem. Also, this time, the chapel attached to the rear of the cottage was being converted, and the building work could be heard inside the cottage. There is a right of way across the small cottage garden, and the builders and scaffolders used it. Having said that, hopefully it will all be completed before our next visit. There is a fabulous local pub, which we make use of, and walks straight from the door.

"Shabby but not chic!"
The standard of cleanliness was dreadful and I had to clean before we could use things in kitchen and downstairs bathroom. We found socks belonging to someone else in the wardrobe and a fabric pocket for glasses down the side of a tub chair! The furniture was shabby and in a very poor condition; the tub chairs lacked stuffing, where we could feel the wooden ribs of the seat backs, they were very uncomfortable. The lighting inside the property was very poor…the 2 arm wall lights in the lounge - of the two fitting only 1 of the 4 lightbulbs were actually fitted. The ceiling light in the smaller bedroom had neither shade or bulb, despite it being in the pictures of the property. You had to stumble around in the dark to get to the side lights located over the bed - which was the far side of the room to the door, with very little space to walk around the bed. It was unpleasant stumbling around in the dark. The door latches on multiple doors were either defective or made inoperable using plasters placed over the latches (the porch door, the downstairs bathroom, and the second bedroom). I was actually trapped in the second bedroom for 20 mins because of a defective door latch and loose handles not turning the mechanism. I didn’t close the door after that. We struggled with the parking…it stipulated there were 2 outside spaces for off road parking for the property. It seemed that a neighbour felt entitled to use one of those (close to the gate) and so we were parked further away down the side of the village green. Despite being disabled, the land-rover owner didn’t feel inclined to let us park in the space we believed was for the cottage, we didn’t challenge him because we weren’t sure how he would react. All the neighbours refuse bags and bins were hanging off the front fence or lined up by the front gate. We felt like we were walking through a communal refuse collection point and were they were there 100% of the time, it wasn’t pleasant. One of the reasons we picked this property was for the outside space advertised. We have a young dog and we needed a secure garden for him to have some time off the lead. The property talked about a lawn and the pictures of the property suggested a large front garden…that was a sham - it was the village green, popular with lots of dog walkers. This resulted in our dog spending all his holiday on a lead. If we’d had a true picture of the actual outside space, we wouldn’t have booked this cottage. Given all our issues - I wish we’d never booked it. The only saving grace was that because of the beautiful weather we enjoyed all week, we were able to spend plenty of time out and about.

"As we entered the cottage we were met with an awful "musty" smell and i hit my head as there is no light in the porch and the doorway into the living room is small."
While the cottage looked clean the hard to reach places had not been dusted (e.g.shelf behind the tv and the bannister rails) i had trouble connecting to the internett,so i rang the owner, got answer phone asking for me to leave a number....explained that as i had called a mobile they had my number...as the previous call i had made....no call back. The chairs in the living room were the most uncomfortable i have ever sat in...so much for cosy nights in front of the tv. Washing machine door handle was missing so could not do any washing. The small fridge ( switched off ) had two old ice lollys in the icebox. The shower still had previous peoples shampoos in the container and the towel holder was behind the fridge. In the kitchen there are two containers for sugar....the sugar inside them was rock hard ! the stairs are very dark and a light should be fitted as in the porch. While i know that it is a 200 year old cottage there are ways to do this. Also if "kitchen with everything a chef would need" Why only 2 saucepans. No micrwave A great locationand Pub and the cottage looks good from the outside and in the pictures. I cannot recommend this cottage and will not be back !

"Where do i start ?"
Strong smell of dog bad smell in kitchen from dishwasher dog hairs on carpet , seating in lounge very uncomfortable dating back 2 yrs on reviews , no outside light inaccessable plug sockets upstairs and down , lights and switches not working in bedrooms , broken glass in downstairs bathroom sink causing injury to my partners finger , lack of pans for cooking chipped plates no draining rack for washing up , downstairs toilet flush hit and miss . Wardrobes full of laundry etc so unable to hang clothes , hoover very smelly did not use , now the worst thing was the fire not set , when setting on first night fire was full of dirty used tissues and sanitary products (disgusting ) cleaners not doing there job , no kindling at all . Having stayed in many of your cottages this is by far the worst , and does not belong on your site needless to say we will not be returning there again .
We are sorry to hear about the issues you had during your stay. We have spoken to both our cleaning company & laundry supplier to raise the issues, these are our regular suppliers and we have not had issues with them in the past Had you contacted us during your stay to advise us of these issues we could have rectified these for you immediately. You did have both of our numbers as you had had made contact with both of us on the numbers the week before your stay requesting a cancellation. We pointed you back to Sykes advising we were happy to move your reservation to another date. We will carry out a full inventory check of all kitchen items and replace any missing or damaged however the cottage has always been equipped following the guidelines from Sykes and for all previous guests there has always had more than adequate items. Pen -y Craig is a 250 year old cottage and we like to retain as much charm and character. We are not in the position to fit multiple plugs throughout but feel that what we have is sufficient for guests. As the cottage is small, and due to its layout, we are not able to furnish it with todays large modern furniture and this makes the furniture less comfortable than you may have if it was larger We have spoken to Sykes who have confirmed that they had no communication from you during your stay and your feedback on your departure was the first communication they had with you. "Nice place seating uncomfortable a very hilly area Nice pub near by with good food"
Thank you for your reply & glad you enjoyed your stay. We are restricted by the size & layout of the property to the size of seating we can buy. Today's modern furniture is simply to big to fit into the Cottage. We are always on the look out and appreciate you comments Property Owner

"Furniture in living room rather uncomfortable I believe it needs updating In the write up for the cottage it said off road parking for two cars, all it is parking on a grass verge."
Thank you for your comments regarding the furniture. Today's modern furniture does not fit in the layout and size of the Cottage and so we have a small "Cottage" sofa and two chairs which fit without overwhelming the room. The cottage is not on a road which is why Sykes state "off road" parking. It is accessed via small lane with parking on the grass access path in front of the cottage. Property Owner

"Well i have sent you an e/mail wont be staying there again uncomfortable seating had to wash cuttlery etc bebore use no fire laid or paper chopsticks to do it our selves we left it ready for the next poorsods."
Beding stained hoover stank when swiched on we would have gone back the next morning had it not been we came to visit annes sister in GRONANT the stairs were steep had to go down like a crab only one hahd rail however area was nice regards john
Thank you for your comment I have raised your issue regarding the bedding with my linen supplier. We are very sorry that you did not contact us during your stay as we would have reattended to rectify. The seating befits the small cottage - unfortunately the room will not accommodate a large sofa that people may be used to at home The cottage is 250 years old and the staircase has been part of the premise since it was built. We are sorry that you had an issue with them however we feel that these are accurately presented on the photographs. Property Owner

"Pen-y-Craig is a lovely cottage."
Ideal for for a much needed holiday break Good base for sight seeing Very clean and comfortable. Two good size bathrooms and bedrooms. Information folder very informative. Wy fi code available but unable to connect . this wasn't a problem to us as the Eagle and Child pub is just about 100 yards from the cottage and we just connected to there Wi fi. The pub run by Clint and Sue is very welcoming. Good food and selection of drinks available. Local taxi service use when going into Prestatyn on a evening as we didn't like driving up the steep hill in the dark. Great holiday would definitely book the Pen -y - Craig cottage on any further visits to Prestatyn.

"We loved our stay at Pen Y Graig."
The village was a perfect setting for our peaceful escape and the cottage had everything we needed to make us feel at home for the week and plenty of room for two of us. The fireplace was fabulous as Spring being particularly elusive this year! Would love to return next time we need a dose of countryside.

"Lovely well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting"
-
"Our 3rd stay since March, so we obviously enjoy our stays."
It's peaceful and quiet yet near to Prestatyn for essentials. We celebrated our Anniversary at the local pub and had a splendid meal. Just wish the lounge seating was more comfortable, plays havoc with old bones! Also the ensuite blind needs fixing. Can't drop it down and having a bath in the dark is an experience. It was the same when we visited in April. All in all, Pen y Craig is a lovely little cottage and we will be back ASAP.
-
"The cottage was idyllic, with all the right utensils needed, it was in a beautiful setting."
The downside of the cottage was the cleanliness of the cottage, on the surface everything was spotless downstairs, when it came to the bedrooms, there was paint peeling of the walls into boxes which were to put your items in, underneath the beds i dont think they have been cleaned or hovered in i don't know how long, it was thick with dust and bits of paper etc, i think it should be looked at or speak to the cleaners.

"Lovely home with a cottage feel inside."
Lovely area, pieceful and some beautiful views. Had to drive mostly everywhere as we were up in the hills with lots of farms and livestock about. Would definitely go again.
-
"Lovely peaceful cottage."

"Cottage was in a lovely little village with a great pub a short walk away."
It was a little difficult to find at first even with the detailed directions available but worth it in the end. Beds were super comfortable but it was a shame there was no welcome pack as then had to leave the property straight away to get provisions.

"The cottage is very difficult to find but was ok once parking sorted with nice neighbour."
Downstairs toilet broken but owner sent plumber out asap and soon mended. Top of oven broken owner said part on order. Would have been nice if note left. Upstairs comfy beds n beautiful bathroom, though fan broken n window would not open so after 4 showers was damp n steamy. Downstairs uncomfortable chairs n sofas so not a pleasant place to watch telly. No milk n tea bags left which we find in all Sykes cottages n long drive to shop as nothing local.Pub was close but would not accept dog so had to eat evening meal in rain. Not cheap n we where going to use nightly but so unfriendly went t Prestatyn. No mop n bucket to wash floors. Toaster did not work n was grateful the grill did work poorly equipped kitchen. Never used wood burner as begging bowl/jar put us off. Would have been happy to replace any we used but asking for money is a bit much.. Farm supplied beautiful eggs but no other shop close by. Local friendly but parking could have been an issue if I had not spoken to them on arrival. The holiday itself was great. Plenty of walks, beach good for dog, Cheese shop amazing. Little bakery at Telegar Light house as was Lighthouse pub. Julie, Paul n Angel dog

"Our second visit in two months, so it says a lot."
We think this little cottage is quite a find. Lovely and warm with plenty of hot water. Great walking from the door. We love the local pub as well, only a few metres away. Dogs not allowed inside but there is plenty of outdoor seating. Would love to see seating in lounge replaced with something more comfortable. Already deciding when we can return.

Warm and welcoming cottage We found it to be very relaxing and homely Well appointed with all the modern day conveniences to make a stay in this cottage very memorable Only criticism is the parking allocation could be better But it did not impact on a very enjoyable holiday Hopefully we will be back soon

"Very nice place to stay"

"A lovely warm homely cottage in a pretty little village with a great pub."
Two super bathrooms. We had a great stay and hope to return before too long. Dog owners with dogs that can jump walls, the wall is quite low in places, but the owners have provided a long lead so you can leave them outside. Our dog didn't jump the wall and loved sitting out watching people go by on the little village green, hoping for a fuss, and he got plenty! We loved this little cottage.

"Beautiful place, this is the third time we have been staying here."
Very quiet, lovely cottage for seeing in the New Year.

"On the day we arrived it it rained all day when we pulled up."
The neighbour told us we couldn’t park there read after park down the road which we did but then the car got stuck in the grass verge. It was flooded when we got into the cottage it was the most unfestive unwelcoming we’ve ever had at Christmas, there was no milk bread or any well come in saying in the kitchen usually there’s a bottle of wine at Christmas. We had to clean the dust off the television before we could watch it on the shelves. You could write your name in the first two dinner plates were clean put on the next to look like they haven’t been washed up. We have been to Rhyl Christmas in other cottages. And been made very welcome as we have family in the area. It was really upsetting to get a text the week before to say no visitors at the cottage. It would’ve been different if this had been mentioned when booking on boxing day at 4 o’clock in the morning Car lights lit up the bedroom and I don’t know what property it is joint to the cottage. All the bumping in banging was quite scary. We didn’t see anyone found it pleasant. It seems as though every time we went out the Land Rover move forward. We had to wind the mirrors in on the car to get in by the gate , but they had three cars. All in all it has been one of the worst Christmases we’ve had definitely won’t be going. Back we did leave it how we found it cobwebs and dust. Usually when we leave we leave a bottle of wine or something to say thank you for not this time
Thank you for your feedback both here and in the guest book at the property. We have contacted Sykes to ask about the “bombarding” with emails prior to your visit and they state “We do tell the guests 6 weeks prior to their stay when they get the key collection details to please respect the property and leave it how you've found it, a week prior to the their stay we send them a reminder email. This is all that we have sent to the guests regarding cleanliness.” We are also unaware of the “no Guests” text that you mentioned as this is not something we do. However under the booking Terms in section 7.3 the policy of guests is covered in case you need this for future bookings with Sykes. We do not leave food or wine for guests as this is a self catering facility and also we do not know of people’s dietary requirements or allergies. For the Christmas bookings we also do not leave decorations or reference to Christmas as guests may be coming away to get away from everything associated with Christmas. Our neighbours are very accommodating of guests. They live in the village full time and may have had more cars due to family staying over Christmas. We cannot control if neighbours arrive home late at night but on the whole this is a very quiet village and the cottage is tucked away from any through traffic. The property was fully cleaned 7 days prior to your arrival to its usual high standard. Any dust may have settled after this. Our cleaners do check all cutlery & crockery and we have fed back your comment to them. We did have someone call in 2 days before you arrived to ensure the heating and hot water was on and that you had ample supplies of wood and coal. We wanted the cottage to feel warm, cosy and inviting as you arrived. We are sorry that you felt your Christmas experience was marred by lack of groceries & wine on arrival but this is not advertised as part the rental and has not caused a problem with any other guests. Again thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

"Great cottage location and general facilities for a secluded stay."
Polite advice - The vacuum cleaner needs looking at, I actually tried to hoover before leaving low suction hampered my efforts.
Thank you for your feedback. We have replaced the vacuum now. Property Owner

"There are some minuses to this proprerty but the pluses far outweigh them for us."
It is very quiet with a secure garden for the dogs. The one thing we would really like changed is the seating in the living room. The black bucket chairs are very uncompfortable and the settee is really too small for 2 people. The beds are comfortable and good to have 2 bathrooms. So we will be booking it again for the third time next year.
Thank you for your feedback and we are glad you enjoy your stays here. We have noted your comments re seating and we are always in the lookout for a compact sofa that could work in the room. Property Owner

"Beautiful setting, peaceful, spacious, nearly everything you could need!"
Satnav tried to take us up to the wrong cottage, but a very friendly neighbour set us right. Eagle and Child pub well worth a visit. Great food and service. Would have given it a 5 star review, except for the fact that there was a serious lack of toilet paper? and no spares? Prompting a fast visit to nearest supermarket. No spare rubbish bags either, and could not find the grey recycling bags??!! Thought it to be in poor taste leaving a message to say, do not close downstairs bathroom door ?! as door knob broken and may get locked in? on a scrap of paper stuck on the door with a sticking plaster!!!

"Had a great stay and the cottage was lovely."
Only piece of negative feedback is that there was no toilet roll on are arrival and we had to go to the nearest shop to buy some for the stay which wasn’t too close by, however other than that everything was great and would come again. Thanks

Absolutely beautiful cottage we had a lovely week and will definitely be back in the near future highly recommend a lovely bit of privacy and the hustle n bustle not too far away if you want to get out and about

"The cottage was pretty."
The house was filthy. Old food in fridge, old rock hard coffee and sugar in kitchen, dirty laundry in machine, dirty cupboards with food on doors, dirty light switches. Food and dirt under sofa seats. I cold go on. Sad
Thank you for your feedback. It is so out of character for our cleaners and we have spoken to them to understand why this happened. It is unfortunate that you did not accept our offer to visit and rectify the issues. Property Owner

"Loved the kitchen and bathroom."
but thought the furniture in the lounge could do with a bit of an update. one or two handles was a bit dodgy but overall a very nice cottage.
Thank you for your feedback and happy you enjoyed your visit. We will address the points raised during our next maintenance visit Property Owner

"A very lovely cottage, well looked after and with great facilities."
Thank you for a lovely stay

"Very homely."
Could do with updating living room, chairs and sofa not very comfortable for sitting in,front door wood benefit from a curtain on so you can pull over in a evening to stop draft. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. It was disappointing that we couldn't go in the Eagle and child round the corner with our well behaved dog. Beds very comfortable indeed. Would love to go back in summer months .
