  • "Overall, we had a great time with the property as a base."

The location was brilliant , being close to all the main amenities in the village. Parking was simple and the location was surprisingly quiet. The bed in the back bedroom was a little lacking in support, and the sofa was a bit harder than we were used to, but this was probably due to us being in our seventies and having creaky joints!. The only thing that I would have found really helpful would have been a guest handbook, with instructions on the appliances in the house. It took us a while to get the hot water running (the switch was in the bathroom cupboard, and to work out the electric heaters. The house was cold when we arrived, being late October and stormy weather, and it generally felt quite damp on arrival. However this was resolved once we worked out how things worked and warmed the house up. The code for the wifi we found in a plant pot by the TV, after we had accessed it from the base of the router. To have that sort of info in a central place would have made settling in so much smoother. On leaving, I noticed a very small patch of black mould developing on the skirting board by the window in the front room that could be dealt with before it becomes worse during the winter months. Other than that, the house was very clean, perfect for our needs and we enjoyed our stay.

  • "Basic accommodation, but very clean and functional."

Ideally placed for exploring the area. However, it would benefit from a comfortable settee (was a hard sofa bed); there was not enough seating for a family, a review of the downstairs heating and perhaps carpets/rugs upstairs in the bedroom and landing. Maybe a welcome pack with heating and tv etc., instructions would be useful. We were impressed with the general cleanliness.

  • "WE HAVE USED SYKES COTTAGES FOR MANY YEARS & HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH ALL OF THEM."

THIS PROPERTY IS NOT WHAT YOU COME TO EXPECT FROM A SYKES HOLIDAY COTTAGE. A PREVIOUS REVIEWER HAS DESCRIBED THE PROPERTIES ISSUES, & ITS UNSUITABILITY AS A HOLIDAY LETTING VERY ACCURATELY. ALTHOUGH SOME OF THE ISSUES HAVE BEEN RESOLVED, OVERALL WE FELT THE PROPERTY VERY DISAPPOINTING & NOT GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY. WE LEFT EARLY.

  • "Cheap…but not cheerful."

I have to agree with some of the previous comments about this property. The pictures on Sykes website look fresh and modern but the reality is quite different. The upgrade has been achieved on the cheap through shoddy workmanship. The leak from the bathroom into the kitchen mentioned in a previous review has left a large mark on the kitchen ceiling which now has mould growing on it. The front door would not lock from the inside or out all the time we were there. These are basic requirements that should be sorted before a property is fit to let. The owner never answered any of our calls and Sykes did very little to rectify the situation, failing to call us back when promised, which only served to prolong our frustration when we should have been enjoying our holiday. I would avoid using this holiday cottage like the plague and Sykes will get no further bookings from me in the future.

  • "Fantastically situated in a lovely village - ideally placed for exploring the whole island."

Very clean and newly decorated/renovated. Great for parking and electric chargers in the car park were ideal. Enclosed back garden perfect for dogs.

  • "The location and Camaes are fantastic."

I would love to stay in the area again, however I would choose a different property. The property itself was a disappointment. The property location and its layout are not the issue. The issues are related to the lack of being a finished property, rushed/poor install and finishes, poor maintenance and poor cleanliness. The photos on the website appear good superficially, but once in the property the poor finishes and issues with the property become apparent. Any one of the issues below might not be a big deal, but the consistent issues throughout the property was wearing and not what you want on a holiday. Whoever the ‘handyman’ is for the property needs to be changed, because they don’t know what they’re doing, or they don’t care. The price paid did not reflect the poor quality we experienced. Overall, all of the issues left me feeling a bit scammed. We also made us question whether we can trust Sykes properties in the future, as it wasn’t up the high standard we usually experience. A list of some (but by no means all) of the issues are: - [ ] Bathroom shower leaked into kitchen through light fitting - sealant missing. Needs replacing entirely. - [ ] Dishwasher appears poorly installed and caused a leak onto floor, which we luckily were in for and could therefore stop the machine and mop up - the foul pipe is not fitted correctly. - [ ] Garden has lots of animal faeces. We have young kids. The kids couldn’t play in the garden due to the quantity of animal faeces, unclear whether dog or cat or both. If animals can stay at the property, this should be cleaned before next guests. Another cat scarer alone is not sufficient. - [ ] On arrival downstairs floors were very dirty, didn’t seem to have been mopped properly. - [ ] Upstairs landing has floorboards only. The floor is unfinished. The floorboards are loose. The upstairs rooms, other than bathroom are floorboards, which makes the upstairs feel unfinished. It detracted from the overall experience. - [ ] Top floor stairs are very steep. More ladder than stairs. The bannisters at the top are loose. - [ ] Front door is very stiff to lock/unlock. Sounds petty written down, but it is really stiff! An older guest may struggle to do this. - [ ] Kitchen equipment was limited. For example, no scissors, no corkscrew, no handwash given, no washing up liquid. - [ ] Live TV would be nice to have. Only on demand and needs your own login. - [ ] No clocks in property. - [ ] No hand towels given in rooms or bathroom. Only large towels for individuals. Therefore no hand towels for bathroom/communal space. - [ ] Property has been painted white externally. This was done roughly and paint is splattered everywhere outside, including the windows.
