"The cottage was beautiful."
Beautiful furnishings, very clean, everything you could need for a fabulous stay. Susan made the best lemon drizzle cake ever. It tasted everything was perfect. If you want luxury and peace and tranquillity you cannot do better than to stay at 2 Aqueduct Cottage xx thank you Susan x

"Aqueduct Cottage is simply delightful."
It is spotlessly clean and very well looked after. The host is extremely helpful, giving useful tips on where to eat out and places to visit. The welcome tray is second to none. The cottage is cosy and comfortable with a pleasant garden. The kitchen is so well-equipped that I told Mrs. Hume that she had thought of everything. We really enjoyed the canal-side setting and the beautiful scenery. We would love to return: still more things to do in this very interesting area.
-
"We had such a great time in the cottage."
We. had everything we needed and the owner was so nice her lemon cake was yummy. We would most definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves walking we needed somewhere that had flat walking and it sure did we walked miles. Would also recommend the Bistro is Chirk food was amazing staff friendly we called in a couple of times for just coffee and a drink as well as a really nice meal one day. Thanks Susan x
-
"Lovely cottage in ideal location."
Susan made us very welcome and provided many little extras (including the famous cake!) An early morning walk over Chirk Aqueduct (only 30 seconds walk away) to enjoy the views was a great way to start the day.
-
"Aqueduct cottage was very well maintained everything we needed."
the location was set right on the side of the canal with the barges going past created a holiday atmosphere. Susan the host made you feel very welcome and special.
-
"Absolutely lovely cottage in a very picturesque location, brilliant for walking into Chirk and to local pubs and as a base for day trips around N Wales and Shropshire."
Such a lovely friendly host and a wonderfully appointed property - she has thought of everything!
-
"Beautiful cottage in beautiful location."
Exactly what we were looking for. The owner is a wonderful human being and could not be more helpful.
-
"A lovely home from home."
Great place to start some good walks from. With a good cafe just a short walk into the village. Will plan to go back to explore the area more. The owner was so nice and could not do enough for us.
-
"Fabulous in every way."
Location Location Location. Beautiful cottage, so peaceful but close enough to explore. Lovely host Susan provided welcome basket and homemade cake. Enjoyed it so much.

"Lovely place, very clean couldn't fault it at all,"
-
"A lovely cottage in an idyllic setting next to the canal and only a few yards from the Chirk Aqueduct and only a 10 minute walk to the numerous shops & restaurants in Chirk."
Susan was very informative about the local area and gave us a home made lemon cake which was delicious. The cottage was very well equipped and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. We will definitely be keeping this cottage on our shortlist for a return visit. Thank you.
-
"Lovely cottage in a stunning location, so quiet and peaceful."
Well kept and maintained. Adding a few umbrellas for renters to borrow is maybe a good idea? The indoor stairs is very steep; good to know if stairs is normally a problem for some reason. Our host was so welcoming and made our stay special. Thanks Susan!
-
"Mrs Hulme gave us a lovely welcome and left us lots of goodies and even baked a cake for us."
The cottage is in a lovely setting right on the canal towpath. All the places we wanted to visit were within 12 miles, too!
-
"Mrs Holme went beyond with her kind welcome and attention, always available should we needed to contact her."
The property was well appointed with plenty of equipment and instructions were clear and concise. A lovely quiet spot beside the canal
-
"Aqueduct Cottage is a lovely holiday home, in an extremely beautiful location."
The owner is very friendly and welcoming. We were extremely happy with our holiday, less so with Sykes Cottages however who were very difficult to get hold of by phone when we had a query before we went on holiday. It took all afternoon to get through & then when we got hold of someone we were put through to someone else, who also took a long time to reply!

"Perfect accommodation."
My husband and I joked amongst ourselves that the only thing we could find wrong with the place was that there wasn't a garlic crusher in the otherwise incredibly well-equipped kitchen (but don't worry, as there were plenty of knives and chopping boards, I survived this ordeal unscathed!). Oh no actually, the other thing was that the ceiling lights in the dining room were a bit glary and could do with lampshades. But other than those two incredibly trivial matters, the place was perfect. And the joy of being hit with the fragrance of the honeysuckle in the garden every day was just wonderful. Would definitely stay here again if we are back in this area. Thank you!
-
"A lovely, comfortable, clean, very well equipped semi in a great location adjacent to Chirk aqueduct."
Easy on-site parking, 5 min walk across aqueduct to cafe and 5 min further into Chirk itself. Good base for exploring Oswestry, Llangollen, Chirk Castle and surrounding area with a variety of local walks or more challenging climbs into the Berwyns. Would be more than happy to stay here again. Oh, and the owner makes a mean lemon cake.
-
"A very comfortable cottage in a great location very very close to chirk aqueduct and on the canalside."
The garden acted like an extension to the house with its decking area in the morning sun. We had no problem with parking for two cars in the private drive. Our host left us wine, biscuits and milk so as we'd been shopping we were able to settle in immediately. We were also given a home baked cake! The cottage has plenty of space for a family to spread out and you can walk along the canal or into chirk in a few minutes. Chirk Castle is a longer walk. All in all a lovely cottage in a very interesting location, particularly if you're interested in the history of canals. Definitely recommended.
-
"A great location for a holiday."
It was wonderful to be able to wander a short distance along the canal to the aqueduct especially at sunset. A great place for bike riding along the canal and quiet country lanes. The owner, Susan was an attentive and friendly host. The property was clean and tidy with a very well equipped kitchen. Highly recommended and a great place to return to.
-
"Just returned from a week in Aqueduct cottage We were met by Susan the owner on arrival who gave us tips on footpaths places to eat and visit in the area, the cottage is in a beautiful location, clean comfortable and well equipped with all we needed, thank you for the wine chocolates and biscuits tea etc."
On Monday we received lemon drizzle cake much appreciated absolutely delicious. We cannot recommend Aqueduct highly enough we will certainly returning thank you again Susan for being an excellent host and allowing us to stay in your lovely cottage Josie Moss

"A very comfortable cottage in a great location, and a generous and thoughtful host."
-
"Lovely property in an idyllic setting."
Could do with a freshen up and mould in the downstairs shower room needs addressing. However said issues would not stop us going back.
-
"Had a lovely stay and felt very welcomed."
The house had everything we needed and was in a beautiful area. The beds were very comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to book again.
-

Would definitely stay again

-
"Lovely cottage on they canal, beautiful to come home to after walking."
Very well equipped and welcoming. Owner very helpful. Can't wait to come back so many things still left to explore.
-
"A lovely cottage in a very unique location which, of course, will always sell it to those wishing to be right on the edge of the friendly canal boating life."
Several pubs are within walking distance as are a few restaurants across the aqueduct in Chirk itself. Previous comments about space in the shower and bedrooms may hold true but this is, after all, a holiday cottage not one's own home where it may have taken years of adaptation to one's own requirements. All in all, a peaceful and enjoyable stay made possible by our delightful host, Susan (and her legendary lemon drizzle cake!).
-
"Property was comfortable and well equipped."
The owner very friendly and helpful. The welcome is good and her lemon drizzle cake loved by all visitors. The only drawback is the steep staircase to the upper floor which requires a lot of concentration and rail holding. Could be difficult for more elderly and less fit individuals. The location by the canal provides much entertainment watching the narrow boats . The garden provide an array of seating places and a great space for outdoor eating.
-
"Cottage was really nice, owner was friendly and helpful."
She recommended The Bistro restaurant in Chirk and we had an excellent meal there. We also ate at the Poachers Pocket by the canal which is a good pub. The Chirk aqueduct and viaduct are spectacular and very close to the cottage.
-
"A real home from home, well equipped and very comfortable, although the stairs are a bit steep."
Ideal location for canal enthusiasts, right on the tow path and a short walk from the aqueduct, viaduct and tunnel. Chirk castle close by and well worth a visit. Will definitely recommend and return to this cottage.
-
"A lovely cottage in a fantastic position by the Llangollen Canal."
Have never had such a well equiped kitchen in a holiday cottage before, absolutely everything you need. Thank you Susan for all the little treats you left for us, especially the delicious cake. We hope to return in the future, still things left to do and vusit.
-
"Perfect week at a beautifully situated holiday cottage."
The owner Susan contacted us in the week before our holiday to ask about our arrival time and to check whether there was anything we might need that is currently stored away from the cottage to help with covid related cleaning (eg hairdryers). Susan was cheerful and friendly and I felt welcome before we’d even arrived. During this conversation I happened to mention that I struggle with the cold. When we arrived, we found that Susan had arrived early to get the heating running and reset the timer so it would run continuously and I could easily switch it off by turning the thermostat down when we went out. I can safely say that I was wonderfully warm for the duration of our stay (last week in January). The cottage was clean, cosy, warm and spacious. The the kitchen was very well equipped - we tend to cook from scratch most evenings and we weren’t short of anything. On arrival there was a much appreciated welcome pack of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, Pringles and wine. During the middle of the week Susan arrived with a homemade lemon drizzle cake which was delicious. It has to be said that Susan was an excellent host, welcoming and friendly and definitely wanted us to enjoy our stay. The location of the cottage was another highlight, situated right next to the canal, within very short distance of the Chirk aqueduct (built by Telford) and the viaduct which runs alongside it. We had a wonderful week here and would most definitely return.
-
"We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely little cottage located adjacent to the canal with a lovely rear garden with excellent seating to enjoy a morning coffee even in November."
Really well equipped, comfortable and warm. Very friendly greeting and welcome pack from the owner who also provided a lovely lemon drizzle cake, which was unexpected. We hope to visit again!
-
"Nice cosy cottage right next to the canal, we stayed November 2021 and the cottage was warm throughout."
A lovely welcome pack on arrival and the owner Susan was there to greet us and give information about the facilities. Chester, and Ironbridge are only a comfortable drive away. A leisurely walk along the canal over the aqueduct is breathtaking and takes you into Chirk.
-
"A wonderful week at Aquaduct cottage, It is was comfortable, clean and spacious."
We were brought a lovely lemon drizzle cake which was completely gone in hours! There are lots of lovely walks from the cottage and is close to the Aquaduct. We definitely would return for another holiday. I would definitely recommend it.

"BEWARE - YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY IF YOU HAVE TO SELF-ISOLATE."
Having paid for travel insurance, we feel extremely let down and disappointed to discover that we were not covered for self isolation due to Covid. Moreover, it was clear that Sykes were not prepared to help or compromise in any way, refusing to refund any money or change the dates. Having been encouraged to book with confidence by your website, we feel very let down. In the event, having paid for 7 nights, we managed to salvage only 2 nights, and it is fair to say that the cottage could not be faulted.

Lovely comfortable cottage very clean and homely Susan left us a variety of goodies on our arrival even a lemon cake midweek she was always there if we needed anything but left us alone to enjoy our hols absolute heaven
-
"Beautiful cottage in a great location."
Very thoughtful touches to make our holiday just that little bit special. The owner Mrs.Hulme is kind and considerate and on hand if needed. Delicious homemade cake delivered to us during our stay. Excellent walks and photography opportunities all around the cottage.

"7th time we have been to "Aqueduct Cottage" - Just as good"
-
"Fabulous week at Aqueduct Cottage."
Went for local walks and bike rides (along the canal to Llangollen and beyond), Chirk castle (well worth a visit), white water rafting at Bala. Also chilled out on the sunny deck enjoying the delicious cake Susan kindly brought us on Monday. Susan couldn’t have done more to make us feel at home. The cottage was perfect for us. The surrounding countryside stunning. We had a great time.

"Lovely cottage in a great location right on the canal and a very short walk to the Chirk aquaduct."
Great sized parking space. Very clean and comfortable with everything we could have wanted. Owner very welcoming and tray of essentials , tea ,coffee, biscuits milk , wine, etc much appreciated. Also the cake she made specially for us during the week was most welcome.! We were limited where we could go due to lockdown restrictions in Wales (The cottage is just yards from the Welsh border) but found plenty of cycle routes on the Shropshire side and managed to get out every day. Would recommend The Mere at Ellesmere and the lovely Boathouse restaurant/ cafe there. Overall a peaceful break in a lovely cottage.

-
"This is a really lovely property - indeed really rather unique given the canal-side setting."
The cottage was very clean and had absolutely everything that we needed, including torches in the bedside cupboards for use at night! We would definitely consider returning to this property as the location was lovely, the owner was fantastically helpful and kind, and the welcome tray and cake were particularly good! We had many meals outside, prepared in the splendid kitchen, and used the cottage as a base for exploring the local area and into Wales.
-

"The cottage was exceptionally clean and well-equipped."
The front room is larger than it looks in the pictures and had comfortable seating for all five of us. We really enjoyed watching the canal boats passing right in front of the cottage. The owner was very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. I would thoroughly recommend a break here.
-

"6th Time we have been to Aqueduct Cottage : It's in a magical setting on the canal with the aqueduct at the bottom of the garden."
Excellent location for local walks and the train to Chester and beyond means a car is not essential . The owner Mrs Hulme is delightful always makes sure she is there to welcome you personally .The "welcome pack" is exceedingly generous "and usually lasts the ensuing weekend .
-
"The cottage had everything that you could want and more ."
. The Lemon Drizzle cake baked by the owner was lovely. However I feel that the bedrooms are too cramped less furniture would make it easier to get around the bed.
-
"Lovely cottage, well equipped throughout."
The welcome tray was a nice surprise also the lovely homemade cake. Was nice position for a walk along the canal and aquaduct. It was a pleasure to meet the owner Susan who was there when we arrived and came to see us when we left. Would highly recommend this cottage and the owner.
-
"This was our third stay in one of Susan’s cottages."
Never disappointed and more than a home from home. When you can’t guarantee British weather you can guarantee a warm welcome to a fabulous place to stay.

Very clean and well looked after by the owners. Great facilities and well stocked kitchen - didn't want for anything. The owner, Susan, was there to greet us and to say farewell - even bought us homemade cake during the week.
-
"Excellent cottage and friendly owner."
Some nice touches including welcome pack, chocolates and home made cake!
-
"An excellent cottage with lots of extra welcoming touches and a very helpful friendly owner - even provided cake."
The only reason we would not book this cottage again is because we always look for different locations to visit each year.
-
"Our 5th Memorable stay at Aqueduct cottage."
Just, simply the best!

The property
This wonderful semi-detached cottage is located right on the canal towpath, just a hundred yards from the Chirk Aqueduct running high above the River Ceiriog, which forms the border between England and Wales.
Dating from 1847, this former Victorian wharf mans cottage seamlessly blends character features alongside modern fixtures and fittings to provide a holiday home of real distinction.
Head up the stairs to find three comfy bedrooms, two of which look over the canal, where you will also find a family bathroom.
On the ground floor, the cosy sitting room boasts a roaring open fire, whilst to the rear of the cottage is a modern and well-equipped kitchen next to a dining room, as well as a shower room.
Step out of the back door and you will find a beautiful lawned garden with both a patio and a decked area, where you can sit and relax as the canal boats chug quietly past.
Stroll out of the front door and you immediately become a member of the canal boat community.
Turn right and within a minutes walk, you find yourself on the Thomas Telford designed Chirk Aqueduct which takes you 70 feet above the Ceiriog Valley into North Wales.
Turn left along the towpath and down the road and you will soon reach the Bridge Inn where a warm welcome awaits.
The small town of Chirk has a delightful selection of shops, cafes and pubs, as well as being home to Chirk Castle, a magnificent National Trust owned medieval castle which not only features many fascinating historical artefacts, but also boasts fabulous gardens and woodland.
Situated on the Welsh border, guests at Aqueduct Cottage can easily access the North Wales towns of Llangollen and Bala, as well as being just a short drive from the Roman city of Chester, famous for its racecourse, Roman Walls and the world-famous Chester Zoo.
A superb base for a holiday that you will never forget.
