  • "The cottage has two large comfortable bedrooms and a spacious bathroom."

The downstairs accommodation is adequate but the conservatory was too cold to use as a dining room. The two ring hob and tiny fridge are inadequate for a self catering property. Several details disappointed. The property smells of damp. The kitchen bin had not been emptied or cleaned from the previous occupancy. There was no bath plug so the bath could not be used. The upstairs toilet cistern was very noisy - this is mentioned in a review from last February but has still not been fixed. It was not always possible to park near the property.

Thank you for your feedback. I don’t know why the bin wasn’t emptied but it hasn’t happened before, I will look into it. We will be getting a replacement bath plug, as it hadn’t been reported as missing to us. The conservatory does have a heater but there is room in the kitchen for the table too. The toilet cistern is not faulty just noisy, the plumbing is being renewed at the end of the season as it is a big job. Property Owner

Very quiet area and not far to walk to the little town with all the shops you need, plus chippy, pubs and restaurant. Sea/beach is just a bit further down the road. Only negative was the noise from the toilet, but this is being addressed the owner informed us when the season becomes quieter. Also could do with a bit more cupboard space. We don't tend to eat out much when we are away so take quite a lot of stuff with us, so could just have done with a bit more cupboard space. Would definitely stay again.

Everything we needed was there. Very comfy and cosy. Beds were very comfy and we had lovely nights sleeps. Shower was excellent. The only slight niggle was the upstairs toilet which was very noisy when flushed. The welsh cakes and pint of milk was a lovely kind touch. It was only about 12 minutes walk to the front where there were eating places and shops, then another few minutes to the beach. We have stayed in lots of properties managed by Sykes and have always enjoyed our stay. We are off to another one tomorrow. Enjoyable stay by us all.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we do our best to make your stay comfortable. Property Owner

Great location for walks, beach, town, castle and restaurants. Our last day we drove to Mount Snowdon and climbed which was beautiful. We will be going back!

The sofa is not very comfortable which has already been mentioned but that was only negative, everything else was great. Best breakfast at the sea front, Cariad Gellato AMAZING, Y Sygwar for a beautiful meal and Black Rock Sands for sandy beach perfection. Everyone should experience this beautiful part of Wales.

  • "The cottage is in a good location about 10 minutes walk from the town."

The bedrooms are big enough and there is plenty of storage space. One minor criticism is that the window have blinds which do not keep the light out in the mornings so I found I was waking very early. The bathroom is a good size. Kitchen and conservatory make a nice cooking/dining area. The only issues we had were that the heating was difficult to keep on. Setting the temperature on the Hive unit would make it work for a few minutes and then it reset - the room was definitely not up to temperature and despite the request not to exceed 20 degrees, that was the only way to make it work reliably. Parking at the front is mildly problematic if returning late, but to be fair, the information on the website acknowledges this. One error is that the 'green space' opposite to take dogs does not exist, unless you count the graveyard! Overall very pleased and I would definitely stay there again.

Thank you for taking the time to give us some feedback. We are hoping to get curtains soon for the front bedroom to solve the light problem. Any problems with the heating please let us know as we can alter it for you during a cold spell. The green space opposite is indeed an old graveyard but it is for public use. Thank you for booking our cottage. Property Owner

  • "The 2 bedrooms are great sizes and the view from the front bedroom looks out to the castle which is lit at night."

The property is up quite a steep hill from the town centre and a lot of people may struggle with this and need to take the car. Parking at the front is very limited and you will likely need to park on the main road around the corner. The property is like student accommodation and needs a lot of TLC. A lot of the issues and concerns raised by Karen in February are still there. A few months later, I would have expected a lot of this to have been dealt with. Sadly all the furniture in the living room is extremely uncomfortable. The front living room wall and a lot of the hallway have damp patches. Not sure if this is still being treated or has been patched over since the last review in February. The living room wall has been painted different to the photo shown on the listing but all the patches are still extremely visible. There is no grass at all in the back garden. This has been paved over and is not as shown in the photos. The upstairs toilet works but is still extremely noisy so unable to flush during the night as it would wake you up.

We are sorry that you feel our property was not up to your standards. The property has been repointed with lime externally then completely redecorated and damp patches treated in April. As with any old property there are some things that are not perfect and ventilation is helpful during occupation and especially during wet weather. Property Owner

  • "Property was a really good size, had a lot of helpful amenities."

Rear garden was secure for the dog. Views from the front bedroom of the sea and castle were lovely. Conservatory was too cold, even with the heater on or doors left open from the kitchen, and overlooked by neighbouring properties. The double doors to the conservatory have a broken hinge, making it difficult to close. The kitchen has only two rings on the hob, so a little inadequate to cook larger meals. The living room chairs are very uncomfortable. The provision of a TV is a good idea, if it works. Maybe a DVD player would cover for the times of no TV signal. Even better would be some type of service for the TV to carry TV channels. The electrical plug sockets are concerning as they are loose. The decoration and general maintenance need a lot of attention, the paper on the walls is bubbling and the walls damp to the touch. The door between the living room and kitchen are pointless, it has a huge gap, so doesn't close. The door from the kitchen to the hallway also doesn't close, so there is no way of keeping your dog out of the front room at night. The downstairs toilet flushes when it feels like it and the room is very damp, with paint falling off. Going upstairs, the paintwork needs looking at, as paint has fallen off the ceiling. The upstairs front bedroom has damp in the furthest corner from the windows/door. Again, needs a lot of work on the decoration. The rear bedroom has multiple areas of damage to the walls. Again, need attention to the paintwork at least. The bathroom is a great size, with a decent shower. However, the toilet is difficult to flush (to say the least), and very loud when it does. The finishing of the paintwork needs looking at. The mirror on the wall is loose. There are no shelves/storage and no toilet roll holder. In general, what could be a great cottage has been let down by lack of care and attention to its maintenance. Yes, we had an explanation of there was a problem with the external wall, but this doesn't explain the internal walls and ceilings (with no connection to the outside wall) being damp. In general, sadly, this cottage has not been to the standard as expected when booking through Sykes.

We are sorry that you had issues with our cottage and thank you for highlighting the problems. But there are some things we cannot change. However, the cottage is currently undergoing a complete redecoration, including treating damp areas. There is a curtain to separate the kitchen and lounge, the Louvre doors are meant for decoration only, but we will see what we can do about that and the door from the kitchen to the hall. The plumber has been to check the toilet and it just needed slight adjustment. Kind regards Property Owner

Good position and had no trouble parking. Nice quality bed linen and comfy beds. Decoration looked a bit tired, but then it is a traditional old Welsh cottage. Garden secure for dog although was smaller than looked in photo, but adequate. Conservatory too cold to use (November) but ate off fold up tables which was fine. Efficient heating system elsewhere. Used log burner for effect, but warm enough without. Could do with different light in the kitchen as found fluorescent strip too bright and cold. Good pub grub at The Prince of Wales, 10 mins walk. Very friendly staff, as were the people. Overall really enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Thank you Jan & Martin

We really appreciate the way the owner provides some basis supplies (for the dishwasher, washing machine etc) as well as a welcome packet of biscuits and pint of milk. The main house is cosy and well-appointed. It would have been nice to have some form of heating in the conservatory where the dining table is. It was too cold to use this room when we stayed this time. However, we appreciate that would add to the costs for the owners.

Thank you for your feedback it is appreciated. To warm up the conservatory when we are there we open the kitchen french doors and it soon warms up enough to use. I hope that this is a useful suggestion. Property Owner

The cottage was pleasant and homely. It had everything we could ever need during our stay and more which was very thoughtful. The hosts had considered everything! The cottage was spotlessly clean with Welsh cakes and a carton of milk on arrival - which was very kind. Thank you! We loved the quality bed linens and towels - little touches that make your stay even nicer! The double bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable that we’re investing in the same mattress for our bed at home! The location is perfect - it’s a short walk down a hill to Criccieth’s high street where there are a couple of pubs, a shop and takeaways if you don’t want to cook. There is easy access down to Criccieth beach from the town. We noticed dogs aren’t allowed on the beach in the summer months so please be aware if you have your furry friends with you. We also appreciated having maps of the area there and the recommendations for local restaurants. The cottage was comfortable and in a good location, though the hill was a little daunting at the end of the day. There were only a couple of small issues. My partner hit his head a couple of times on the low ceiling coming down the stairs so possibly some sort of warning would be helpful. Also I was a little wary of using the garden as it was clear that it had been used by dogs and it was unclear if it had all been cleaned up behind them as the grass was a little long. As I said these were only small issues which didn't impact significantly on our enjoyment of the cottage and we would recommend it to other people.

Some holiday house owners don't provide anything which means you have to bring or buy things specially for a week's stay. This is a very welcoming and pleasant house, with a really nice vibe. Being a cold late winter/early spring week, the weather was cold (but very sunny) and it was quite cold to have breakfast in the conservatory, although that is a really nice space.
