I personally loved the thought of being only 5 minutes away from village and local amenities yet the feeling of being in the countryside. The grounds were lovely, cottage was comfortable and spacious enough that even though we were there together as a family we weren’t falling over each other. We will definitely stay again, also thought the hens eggs were a lovely welcoming start from the owner Mr Carpenter.

  • "We had an amazing holiday staying at Abbey Cottage."

We were a party of 6 adults, 2 children and a dog. The house was very spacious and we all felt like we had our own private spaces as well as having the lounge, dining table and games room as places to gather together. We spent lots of time playing pool, snooker, darts and table tennis which kept us all entertained. We also made use of the free starter pack and enjoyed a lovely barbecue out in the garden. As one of us have an electric car, we found having the charger at the house really useful. The house is in a great location and we had some lovely days out. We enjoyed a meal out at the Dinorben Arms as recommended and it was fantastic! The local takeaways were good too. We would definitely recommend and would love to return one day. Thank you!

  • "We had an amazing week at Abbey Cottage."

The house is beautiful and in a perfect location to explore North Wales. Mr Carpenter met us on arrival to go through some things which was very helpful- especially given how much more advanced they are in Wales with recycling! The toilet flushing situation upstairs and the regular smell of the septic tank was a bit off putting but understandable in such an old house. The garden is massive and beautiful but we felt that a bit more maintenance was needed- there were nettles everywhere and with young children that was a problem. The ponds were also cause for concern with young children and dogs. Overall we had a fabulous week- we would definitely recommend the cottage for large groups celebrating special occasions or just wanting to get to know North Wales.

We are an extended family of 11 we all fitted comfortably in the house. The kitchen is well equipped. With various pots pans and crockery. The garden reminded me of the story the secret garden. There are two small ponds but we were just extra careful with the smaller children in our party. We had a little issue with the TV and I messaged the owner it was fixed within 2 hours (as he respected our privacy and waited until we had gone out for lunch) A brilliant peaceful family break.

Beautiful building and history. Easy location and great for using as a base if you want to explore North Wales. The darts, table tennis, snooker table etc were a great hit with adults and children, especially on the rainy mornings! Unfortunately didn't make much use of the garden due to the weather but it looked lovely. It's previously been a clearly loved home so maybe some updates would be nice, but everything we needed was provided and Ian was great at handing over when we arrived. Thanks Siobhan for your kind comments, and for leaving the house so clean. We can’t do much about providing a second en-suite downstairs in an 800 year old house! That said, there are two more bathrooms upstairs, one of which is a Jack and Jill en-suite Just want to also say a big thank you for being so accommodating when a huge old tree came down in the high winds and fell into the primary school playing field next door. The house was lovely and unique with lots of space for a family of 10. The garden was amazing and great for our 2 dogs as fully enclosed and safe. I delt with a gentleman named Ian who was friendly and helpful. The one issue we had was a bed broke. This was down to it being a child’s bed I think and an 5ft 8inch adult sleeping in it. The room with the 3 single beds either need to be advertised as a child’s room or more substantial single beds need putting in. This however wasn’t an issue and Ian was more than happy to help. We would highly recommend this cottage, we had a great time and definitely would return

Thanks Tracey for your kind comments - and for leaving the house so clean. Beds have been fixed (better supports) so will be fine for any future guests. Thanks again Property Owner

The owner kindly met us there on arrival and showed us round. The property was very clean, the beds are comfortable if you like more than one pillow to sleep on which some of our group did I would recommend taking an extra one with you. The location is excellent when inside the property it feels secluded but is also perfectly positioned to walk to shops within minutes. This house has something for everyone we took older relatives with us so the two separate living spaces gave some down time for grandparents while the children watched Netflix and played pool and table tennis. The house is also very warm with fantastic under floor heating in the main living room. We had a problem with one of the bathrooms on our second day and the owner came straight out the same day and fixed it for us which was much appreciated. The oven was a little tricky and we found cooking food took a long time, one side being hotter than the other too. We recommend the Chinese / fish and chip shop by the traffic lights, the food was amazing. Our older members of the group would have preferred a shower caddy or some shelves to store toiletries instead of bending down while in the shower and some toilet roll holders and hand towel rails but that really is just a preference it does not take away that Abbey cottage is a fantastic house and the owner is super helpful. We can’t wait to return to Abbey Cottage again, thank you for a great holiday we were sad to leave.

  • "If you're looking for out and out luxury, this isn't the place for you."

But if what you want is a thoroughly comfortable bolthole, Abbey Cottage would take some beating. Like the remains of the friary in the garden, Abbey Cottage dates from the 13th century, and is claimed to be the oldest inhabited house in Wales. Signs of its medieval past are still evident in some outer walls and vaulted ceilings, all of which add to its charm. It was the owner's family home for many years, and it's as though they just moved out but left the house and its contents as they were. The result is a warm and welcoming lived in atmosphere, with all the equipment for day-to-day life - far removed from the sterile surroundings of some purpose-built rental properties where everything has obviously been counted out to accommodate the maximum number of guests and no more. Tucked away down a private (though very muddy!) lane around half a mile from the centre of Denbigh, the cottage offers total privacy and peace, which must make outdoor living in summer a real joy. But on a cold and damp February weekend we preferred to enjoy all the many activities offered in the toasty warmth of the cottage which, in addition to very efficient central heating also offered a wood-burning stove with plenty of fuel. We had a snooker room in the main lounge, plus a table tennis table, darts, skittles and cross-trainer in the integral garage. There were also stacks of books and games for quieter moments plus a massive TV complete with Netflix etc. Denbigh itself is a small, unassuming town about a 15-minute walk away up a long slow incline. There’s an Aldi and a Lidl at the bottom of the hill near the cottage, with The Coffee Pot, an excellent quirky cafe opposite which is a great place for breakfast if you don’t feel like cooking

The garden is a real highlight. Our only regret is that we did not spend more time in the house or garden - we are already trying to work out when to go back! We were a bit worried about the dogs and children but the owner, who could not have been more helpful, put our minds at rest straight away and said it was our home for the week and we could do as we liked (which was helpful as one of the dogs jumped straight into the pond as soon as we arrived!).
