  • "We had a truly fantastic stay at Pen Y Bont Ucha."

The cottage itself is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside and was plenty big enough for 4 adults and a baby. The parking area is great and not something you usually get with an old cottage. We spent all our time in the open plan kitchen/diner/living area so we could all be together. Comfortable beds, modern bathroom, well equipped kitchen, reliable hot water and heating, lovely secure garden and a very sweet welcome gift all contributed to a perfect stay.

The cottage is lovely inside with plenty of space I especially loved the toilet and sink in the little alcove in the main bedroom it was really quirky it reminded me of a hobbit home just had to remember to duck going in there .

  • "Let’s start with the positives!"

The cottage itself is a beautiful building and has been sympathetically restored. It is found in the middle of a quiet lane, so was peaceful at night. The house has been kitted out by furnishings from Marks and Spencer’s so decent quality, including the lovely bed linen on the bed. We had an initial issue with the dish washer which was sorted once I’d played around with the buttons but it would have been better if the instructions for the dishwasher were kept in the property folder. The nearest pub, the Queens Head, is a local pub and does great food. Onto our honest opinions of the not so great issues… If you’re not a confident driver on single track lanes with bends with a 60 limit, this isn’t the property for you! We saw and heard many vehicles go past the cottage at speeds which were excessive for the road. We had our heart in our mouths most days when leaving the property until we got into Glanwydden itself! It became apparent throughout our stay that although it initially looked clean, there was dust on the bedside lamps, the filter in the dishwasher hadn’t been cleaned before our stay and we weren’t expecting the smell of marijuana coming from the property next door when using the garden! Also the information that the fact that the ceilings were very low in places was only communicated to us via text the day before arrival. The toilet in a cupboard in the front bedroom was awkward to use and as a door cannot be fixed as it’s an awkward shape and height, the fact that there was a very low window next to it in the bedroom at 90 degrees meant that the blind on this window had to be rolled down all the time unless you’re a bit of an exhibitionist! This however did mean we didn’t have a view of the old cars in the yard of the property opposite in varying degrees of repair. The washing machine was a great addition however, no dryer, which meant we had to reply on the weather to dry the clothes or, as we did, used our own airer we brought from home to try and dry the items. The sofas are very nice to look at, but if you have back or mobility issues, awful to sit on as they are very soft and low. No back support at all so ended up doubling the seat cushions and adding lots of cushions behind my back just to try and sit upright. Unfortunately we didn’t fare much better with the mattresses on the beds, I felt a bit like Goldilocks, as one was way too soft and the other too hard. Sadly I didn’t find one that was just right. This is only our opinion and I’m sure lots of other younger people will think it’s the perfect property for them, however, for us it was a 6 out of 10.

  • "Beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings."

We had pretty awful weather but still got out and about and it was lovely to come home to a warm and welcoming holiday home. Local pub did lovely food too.

  • "The property was very nice."

Layout rather restricted for 4 adults if the weather had not been nice, but as it was the outdoor area was very satisfactory. Post booking communication was not great as getting in touch to change group size was very difficult as booked through VRBO.

  • "Lovely little cottage in an excellent location, short drives to access most of the beautiful scenery wales has to offer and close by to most of the attractions!"

Cottage itself was lovely all the amenities you can think of, but here are some slight issues other families may have. If you are a tall family this is not the cottage for you, the ceilings are really really low and space wise it could be cramped, also if you have young children again this is not the cottage for you my 10 year old was fine but we felt we were constantly watching the 2 year old as there is an open fire with no guard the stairs are wooden and really tight to climb. garden wise it is nice but there is a generator outside that can spoil the peace as it is constantly on. All in all nice little cottage I’d say it’s more for a couple or a family with 1 older child. But for exploring the area it’s perfect.

  • "A lovely little cottage in a great quiet location - perfect for visiting the local area, and with a lovely garden out the back."

The neighbours’ garden/scrapyard over the road was a bit of an eyesore when opening the curtains in the morning, though obviously not something the cottage owners can do much about. The lack of door on the en-suite toilet in the main bedroom was a bit quirky for me (gave the kids that room!), but bedrooms generally very comfortable. The WiFi wasn’t very good, although this actually suited us as the kids couldn’t spend all their time on YouTube and Roblox. Would echo previous visitor who mentioned the recycling/bins situation - had no idea what was going on there (ended up checking the local council website) and some instructions regarding what went where would have been appreciated. Overall had a great time and would return.

  • "We loved this quaint cottage and thought its position is ideal for a holiday."

It is kitted out to a very high standard and has everything you need for a great holiday. We spent days in Colwyn Bay which is 10 minutes away by car, Llandudno which is around the same distance. If you like walking the walk to Conway Castle is a superb walk along mainly quiet roads. The owners are very attentive and solved a slight problem we had with the TV within 30 minutes of calling them. All in all, we had a superb holiday in a beautiful cottage in a quiet location and cannot recommend it enough.

  • "This is a great cottage in a very peaceful location."

Had a wonderful few days, has everything you need, very comfortable, and helpful owners at the end of the phone. Local pub very good. All would say is please explain how the recycling works - we didn’t know what goes in each compartment eg where to put glass and which plastics could be recycled!

Lovely garden with outdoor seating. Spacious kitchen with all you need. Cosy front room. Situated on country lane with private parking. The queens head pub in the village has wonderful food. Would definitely stay there again. Nice to come home to after a day out.

  • "Had a lovely long weekend stay at Pen Y Bont Ucha."

A very homely cottage, beautifully maintained and clean. Beds were comfortable and plenty of clothes hanging and storage space. Set in a peaceful location, close to coast. Lovely outside seated area and garden. It’s worth pointing out that the ceiling in the main living area and the doorways are a challenge for anyone above 6’ tall.

  • "Lovely little cottage with nice little token of drinks and some biscuits."

Easy to use the facilities and clean sheets and towels. The garden space was a nice little area for my little one to explore and large parking space was a bonus.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Peny y Bont Ucha."

The cottage was clean and comfortable. Nice little garden to sit out in and generator next door didn't disturb us at all ( as stated in an earlier review) . I only marked it down 1 star as it's the first cottage we've stayed in and there was no welcome pack. For the sake of a few tea bags, milk and biscuits, it would be a nice welcome. I did forget both but luckily we had called to Asda on way there. Loved Llandudno.

  • "The accommodation was perfect."

Parking for two. No short cuts inside, everything was spot on. Clean and so well laid out for a listed building. Why perfect on all the scores but only a four star ? The generator from next door made it unpleasant to sit outside. PS you could not hear it inside, so it did not spoil your sleep.
