  • "We've been going here since 2016 and this visit and was very disappointing."

Two bedrooms had awful damp, one worse than the other, and unusable. The balcony has been altered and the tiled flooring removed and replaced with fibreglass. This got very hot in the sun and burned our feet when walking on it! That never happened with the tiles. The ground floor kitchen has a terrible smell of heating oil still, not as bad a previous visit but still very noticeable. I'm a recovering cancer patient and the friend with me has a few health issues. Had we been made aware of the damp issues before going we would have asked for a refund and not gone. It's such a shame to see the deterioration in the property and I hope that they can get it back to the comfy welcoming property it used to be.

We are of course disappointed that you did not enjoy your holiday with us. It is always our goal to give our guest a warm welcome and provide everything the guests need for a enjoyable holiday. Since the last time you visited 7 years ago, we have updated the information on Sykes website 3 times to reflect an accurate description of Cedar Gardens. The tiles had to be removed in 2019 due to necessity, water was getting underneath the tiles and we had exhausted every possible solution to solve it. The drastic measure of removing the tiles was not wanted, but absolutely necessary in the circumstances. The pictures were immediately updated on Sykes website to show the fibre glass balcony. The property is extensively maintained, the whole property was painted right through at the beginning of the season. The gardens take considerably more maintenance than the average garden (it is half an acre! )The house is professionally cleaned throughout during every changeover and the windows and glass balcony are professionally cleaned every month. We have made many improvements in the 7 years since you visited that we are really proud of, and we feel they add to the guests enjoyment of the property. We can assure you that if anything is out of place or unsatisfactory, it is not through lack of effort or desire on our part. We had believed we had solved leak emanating from the balcony (which illustrates our ongoing problem with the balcony perfectly), but unfortunately that was not the case. The guests before yourselves did not inform us of the leak till 1 day before your arrival. Again we attempted to solve the problem in the time we had available, but obviously it did not work. We did apologize profusely upon your arrival, but we appreciate your disappointment, as it mirrors our own disappointment. Unfortunately we are on an oil tank, which is situated just outside the small kitchens window. The boiler is in a cupboard situated at the back of the small kitchen. We have had heating engineers out on numerous occasions. They have assured us on as many occasions that there is no problem or leak and that is just the result of living in such close proximity to the tank and boiler. It is just an unfortunate reality of living in the countryside. Property Owner

Very clean and well equipped. We had a very enjoyable stay there. One thing to mention is the steps, up to the property, only a couple but quite narrow. Also stairs in the property, few down to the lower floor and a few up to the living area. Could be tricky if you have mobility issues.

  • "We had a lovely relaxing week at Cedar Gardens."

Peter met us at the property and gave us a guided tour which was much appreciated as was the welcome pack. We walked everyday from the door which included an uphill hike to the Jubilee Tower on Moel Famau and a stroll to The Golden Lion at Llangynhafel where the landlord was very friendly and very informative. One morning of rain did not affect our holiday as there are so many rooms to relax in overlooking the gorgeous grounds. This place is so quiet and peaceful with a sun trap balcony. We will definitely return.

  • "The property is lovely with plenty of space for the three of us to enjoy."

The beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of storage available. We would have preferred a larger parasol on the balcony but in fairness we could have sat in the shady areas of the vast garden. Unfortunately, the spiders behind one of the beds unnerved my sister and the few others in the house were quickly moved out - inevitable in the countryside but some appeared to be well settled. The front door was stuck at one point so we were unable to gain access to the property but fortunately the caretaker turned up at the same time to help resolve the issue even though he lives only ten minutes away. He obviously has ESP! The access to the property is okay for larger cars but not suitable for nervous drivers. We mostly coped well with the stairs but those by the front door inside where they are very slim nearly caught us out a couple of times. The weather was wonderful throughout our stay which was an added bonus. Thank you so much for providing your house for us to stay in. Pam

The property was warm and comfortable and the facilities excellent. The weather was cold and snowy and the garden room with log burner provided a wonderful retreat, and the provision of wood was a generous addition to the welcome basket of goodies which had been left for us. The area is beautiful with walking from the door of the property. It was easy to get to many places eg Chester and Llangollen and the coast.

  • "This is a huge property and the rooms (and beds) very comfortable."

My son and I really enjoyed using the balcony, which is very large and the quiet room - which had some very interesting books, deserving of staying there just to read them. Unfortunately not enough time to read all the ones I wanted to though. The kitchen and laundry room had everything we needed and the tv had Netflix, which was a surprise bonus. There was a lovely welcome pack with really really tasty home grown tomatoes, bread, welsh cakes, butter and there was a vase of flowers on the dining table which was a really thoughtful touch. I would mention that there are quite a few stairs and I think that should be highlighted to potential customers who may find them difficult but it didn't detract from the really unusual and spacious layout. We very much enjoyed our stay.

A great place to relax and unwind, sit out on one of the various balconies, have a drink, watch the sunset, listen to the birds, go for a walk in the countryside, or if you feel more energetic go up Moel Famau. All facilities excellent and no shortage of the things you would expect. A great welcome when you arrive, friendly neighbours on the estate, and amazing gardens to sit out in. A great place to use as a touring base for North Wales.

  • "The cottage is lovely, with everything we needed, there was a lovely welcome basket and fresh flowers on the table, the beds were very comfortable, two bathrooms with showers with plenty of hot water."

Unfortunately the description of the cottage should state unsuitable for anyone with walking difficulties as the accommodation is split level the dinning room and kitchen upstairs also the large balcony upstairs. We managed because there’s a small kitchen downstairs, this area is the main living area with a very small lounge which was dark, there is a bright morning / games room. In my opinion this room would be nice as the lounge as it’s larger bright with a lovely view of the garden with a magnificent Cedar tree. Cottage suitable for couples, if there were twin beds in the large bedrooms it would appeal to friends who don’t mind being in same room but don’t want to sleep in same bed. The garden room we didn’t use but feel in the spring / summer it would be lovely, Ideal for a barbecue, there’s even a fire pit. Overall a lovely cottage for couples and friends. But not for anyone with impaired mobility.

  • "The large balcony shown in your pictures is actually split in two by a fencing panel."

Unfortunately, the guest thought that the property was not a detached property, and this was the basis for the low rating. she believed that the rooms locked off where a separate residence, they are rooms for the owners' belongings as advised on the website. The owners only use these rooms when they occupy the whole property. It is correct that the balcony has been reduced in size due to a problem with leak which has been fixed temporarily, the full balcony will be repaired and made available once weather permits. the portion of the balcony that is still available is 20ft long by 11ft wide. The owner regrets that we did not inform the guest of the full situation when she visited the property. Property Owner

Now for the good news... From the second we entered it felt like ‘home’. Every possible need is catered for and we relaxed straight away. The surroundings (2 beautiful gardens and views over Clwyd) are outstanding and the house itself is exceptional. It is so spacious - large bedrooms with big windows to make the most of the views. An extra room to get away from it all and a small kitchenette to save you from having to go up to the main kitchen when you’re having a cosy TV night. We didn’t even use the garden room but it is there also with log burner. Facilities are fab. Everything is top quality. The house has a lot of history too and this makes it feel even more special. Thank you Peter for all your hard work in maintaining the property and the grounds - we loved our week there. p.s. regarding the pub situation there are a few decent ones in Ruthin - around a 40 minute walk. We found a really reliable taxi service for getting home (Davey’s taxis - under £7).
