  • "We loved the little cottage which had all the appliances and utensils you could wish for."

We were well looked after by our hosts and nothing was too much trouble. A welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and lovely cake was waiting for us. There were also biscuits for the dog. It was set in a lovely central location and plenty of parking for the car. We had some lovely days out and would recommend Chirk Castle, Erddig Castle, Llangollen Aquaduct, Attingham Estate and Greenfield Valley Heritage Park.

The property was well equipped with a great range of cookware for self catering. There were high quality bed linens and towels. The local walks from the door were spectacular as were the views from the garden over the valley. The hosts were welcoming but not intrusive and we loved the welcome pack with homemade cake. Our dogs were also made very welcome too.

  • "This was a clean, comfortable and cosy cottage in a great location; particularly important as the weather was very chilly for the time of year!"

All very good! Thanks to Dave for lovely welcome and tasty cake etc. We had no complaints at all. We were, however, disappointed with the Sykes description of the outdoor space. It is indeed stated that this is shared with the nextdoor property, but we would strongly disagree that the outdoor seating area is private. Yes, each cottage has a small separate table and chairs place; but the whole area is shared, so dogs are free to wander all around. It's only fair to make others aware of this. We might have found it a bit annoying had it been warm enough to sit outside.

  • "We had a really nice stay @ the Barn."

The cottage is located in perfect location for walks, 2mins from the place there is a "hidden" path, so you can start your walks away from cars etc. We have spend hours exploring surrounding areas with beautiful views. I would highly recommend this place, BUT please bare in mind something that we weren't aware of- that the "garden" isn't private, even though it states it is. There is another property that shares the spaces. So if your dog is good, as long as he is with people he knows, but reactive to unknown people, you will have to keep them on leash (unless obviously you are unconcerned about safety or others).

Comfortable and quiet with plenty of parking space. The property is fully fenced so this is only an advisory if you have a small dog and because my cavalier managed to squeeze through it on the last day, the gap between the gate and post is big enough to get through but there are plenty of things around to use to block it off while you are in. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here last week.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Old Barn. We were very disappointed that you found the furniture in the living room to be uncomfortable. We go to great lengths to try to ensure that everything is nice for our guests and as we, ourselves, would wish it to be. Unfortunately, the comfort of living room furniture depends very much on how it "fits" an individual and what is good for one person is not necessarily good for another. We are sorry that, on this occasion, we weren't able to precisely meet your needs but were glad to note that you enjoyed your holiday overall. Property Owner

  • "As the cottage said dog friendly, and also enclosed garden, this in my opinion isn’t true."

I found the staircase in the cottage dangerous,it needed a safety gate at the bottom,to stop the dog going up ,as the steps had gaps, which were quite dangerous. Also it said enclosed garden, that wasn’t .A dog could easily get out. Last. The grounds were extremely dark at night, they have lights but they go off after about 30 seconds. The lighting should be on for a set period of time. I have to give a frank an honest review.

Dear Guest We were very disappointed to hear that you were unhappy with the Old Barn. The great majority of our guests visit the Barn with dogs (some large some very small) and most make a point of saying how happy they are with the accommodation. If I could address your comments in turn: 1.you state that you found the staircase in the cottage dangerous. The staircase has open tread stairs, which might be a little disconcerting for someone who has never used this type of staircase before. However, I'd like to reassure you that the stairs are every bit as safe as any other type of staircase and are fully Building Regulations compliant. 2. We do not leave a safety gate in the cottage as this would be in the way for guests who do not want to use it and safety gates can prove difficult to step over and a trip hazard. We do however have one available for guests who wish to avail themselves of it. 3. The area surrounding the cottage (and it's neighbour the Little White Cottage) can be shut off by closing the gate. Once the gate is closed the area is dog-tight. 4. The grounds are dark at night but we have outside security lights which react to movement so if you are walking your dog around you should not be in a very dark area at all. We will, however, check again to ensure there are no dark areas we've missed. Additionally we provide torches for guests to use during their stay. It's a shame that you didn't discuss your concerns with us in the limited time you were here. We live onsite and, as we mention to all guests, we're only too happy to help with any issues if we possibly can. Property Owner

The weather wasn’t great, so we walked less than we’d hoped, but there are some great routes including Moel Famau. Fantastic hosts, Dave and Tricia, made us so welcome and live in an adjacent property but pottered around the garden with discretion so we never felt spied-on. Tricia made us a fantastic cake (which I devoured as we drank tea and played cards outside when the sun did shine). The barn conversion itself is perfect for two people. The bed is very comfy, the en suite and kitchen are both clean and contemporary and the whole building is very well equipped with a plethora of plug sockets! The addition of the little conservatory on the back of the barn really does extend the available space; it’s a lovely place to sit (eat cake and play cards!). Highly recommended.

  • "We had a wonderful two weeks in this pretty cottage, there was everything we needed."

The owners were on hand close to the Old Barn, they were very welcoming but not intrusive. The fact that we could bring our beloved chihuahua was an added bonus. Would recommend it. We would love to return as there is so much to see and do on the area.
