  • "By far the cleanest and well thought out property we’ve ever stayed in, nothing was left to chance with the equipment and utensils provided, including a great coffee machine and super oven ."

The bed was the comfiest I’ve ever slept in and the bathroom was great with a super walk-in shower. The location of the property is perfect for walking in the mountains and trying to catch a glimpse of the wild ponies or to venture into Conwy for its great restaurants and cafes, special mention to The Castle hotel for its fabulous Sunday lunch and to Isaac Simeone patisserie for his tasty cakes and coffee. Couldn’t recommend this properly more highly..

The beautiful property had everything we needed including shower gel, hand soap, washing up liquid plus cleaning materials. The bed was so comfortable which is important to myself due to me suffering from arthritis. The view from the garden is stunning you can even see the sea on a clear day. We met the host Amanda when we arrived. She made us most welcome and was on hand next door if we needed advice or help. We have been telling our friends and family to get booking. The Conwy area is lovely with lots to do. Colwyn Bay has a gorgeous beach. We spent a day at Bodnant Gardens National Trust property. The gardens woods and waterfalls are so beautiful. There is a cafe at the entrance and a snack bar near the river selling yummy pasties nice coffee and ice creams. We hope to return sometime and will stay for a 7 days

Kitchen well equipped. Bedroom comfortable. Outside parking space good. Secure. Late entry and early departure inconvenient and the main reason for a lower star. Narrow roads in and around Conwy testing at times. 20mph restriction will deter tourists!!

  • "We had a lovely mini break (25th to 29th Sep 2023)."

Oakwood Stables was lovely, very well presented, clean, and both settees and the bed were very comfortable. We did have an issue with the oven/hob cutting out, and also the central heating didn't come on, however, Janus sorted it very quickly. It was also nice of him to come and ask us about our stay, and he mentioned some changes he and Amanda are hoping to make. Overall, it was very good and we would definitely consider returning.

  • "The kitchen was dirty, the dishwasher smelt and was therefore unusable, the fridge/freezer was iced up and had clearly not been defrosted for quite some time, the open shelves which was where the glasses and mugs( of which there were only three) were very dusty."

The bed was comfortable, but the duvet was a heavy winter one and there were no windows so we could not cool down at night or have any fresh air, so we slept badly for the whole week. There is a lack of electric sockets, the only one which did not have an extension we tried to use, but it crackled and didn't work - is it safe? There are artificial plants dotted about, some of which are very dusty. To end on a positive note, the location and view are good.

  • "Lovely location and spacious property , however on arrival we were advised that there was a wasps nest directly above the patio table this meant we were unable to enjoy the outside space."

This also meant we had to keep doors and windows closed. A little milk in the fridge on arrival would have been much appreciated. As mentioned by previous guests, the metal frame bed does need replacing as it is very creaky although the mattress was very comfy.

We walked into Conwy quite a few times and there is a short cut through a field so took us less than half an hour. Conwy itself is a lovely town and we ate at The Erskine Arms several times and also at Alfredos. Would certainly recommend Oakwood Stables for a peaceful and relaxing break

It’s also in an excellent location to explore North Wales and Snowdonia. Unfortunately, we had some trouble with the electrics, resulting in no hot water a couple of times. However, Janus, the owner, very promptly fixed the issue and was extremely friendly without being intrusive. There are many things to see and do in the surrounding areas as well as many good eateries and café shops a short drive away. A long drive to Portmeirion but well worth a visit! Wi-Fi very intermittent.

This modern property, which lies adjacent to the owner's home, is decorated and furnished in a very individual style, which we found rather dark for our taste, especially the bathroom, mainly due to lack of windows on the south elevation. The bathroom has a lovely large walk-in shower, but it is situated next to the kitchen and not adjacent to the bedroom, which is rather inconvenient at night. Generally the property is comfortable and well equipped having spacious rooms with a basic sky package provided on the TVs.

The kitchen is well equipped with lots of cupboard space for food. Neither of the TVs had the full Sky package but our evenings were not spoilt. The owners of the cottage were not at all intrusive and were very friendly when we saw them. • "You know that moment: you walk into a property and you just know this is something very special."

Well, now double that feeling, and you might begin to appreciate just how much we loved our stay at Oakwood Stables. Of course, we were incredibly lucky. Conwy, which is so quaint, was holding its annual food-fest the weekend we arrived, so the town was buzzing. Then, for the whole week we had wall-to-wall sunshine - tell me about it. The restaurants round and about are excellent and one (Signatures) was top fine-dining, and inexplicably inexpensive for such quality. But it was the property that starred. Spacious, beautifully presented on arrival, warm and welcoming. TVs in the lounge area and bedroom, a brand new walk in shower room. And all at the most attractive price. The owners (Jonus, Amanda and family) live literally next door, and are a delight, never once intruding throughout our week's break (but what a bonus to have owners so close at hand). We usually take our autumn break in Normandy, but the North Wales scenery is simply indescribable: to our shame we had absolutely no idea. We even found ourselves feeding horses in the nearby field every morning before breakfast, something we would never have imagined in our wildest dreams. Beaumaris, Caernarfon and Penrhyn were great days out, and we were lucky to walk into Caernarfon Station just in time to catch the Welsh Highland Railway, taking us into the most breath-taking scenery. For us, it was a break following a couple of Summer holidays, the most recent somewhat tiring (even for a pretty fit 74 and 70 years old couple) but there's no question we will be back no matter the circumstances. Oakwood Stables is perfect for any age-group, from the very young to the very mature, AND WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

About the location

CONWY

Llandudno 5 miles; Betws-y-Coed 16 miles.

Conwy, a World Heritage Site, is without doubt world famous for its historical and architectural heritage, yet at the heart of the town lies a hub of bustling activity. Alongside its ancient festivals and fairs, musical recitals, galleries and historical attractions, there is an array of specialist shops, restaurants and hotels. Built for King Edward I between 1283 and 1287, Master James of St George's design, Conwy Castle remains one of the most outstanding achievements of medieval military architecture. The distinctive, elongated shape, with its two barbicans, eight massive towers and a great bow-shaped hall was perhaps determined by the narrow rocky outcrop on which the castle stands. The town is proud of its historic traditions and celebrates its past by retaining many of these in its annual festivals, events and fairs, including the Honey fair, Seed fair and Gwledd Conwy Feast in October, along with other musical events throughout the year. Conwy is the perfect base for exploring the dramatic Snowdonia National Park, walking unspoilt sandy beaches, or taking in the wonderful scenery on your doorstep. Also within reach are the Llechwedd Slate Caverns, which has the longest zip wire in Europe, and Surf Snowdonia is just six miles away.
