  • "Lovely quiet spot with fantastic views!"

Courtyard garden has a lovely view through the side gate and is accessible to all but up the charming stone steps the garden and its quirky areas are delightful. I first thought my two labradors would sneak out the back of the garden up the rocky crag to the nature reserve beyond but they didn’t even attempt it and thoroughly enjoyed the garden and lovely walks from the cottage either up to the reserve at the end of the lane or through all the footpaths so close to the cottage. We will definitely return if back near Conwy and Colwyn. Loved it.

Thank you for your lovely comments. We would welcome you back x Property Owner

  • "Very nice detached cottage with spacious rooms and an enclosed garden."

Lovely views of the countryside and close to the beach at Colwyn Bay. Facilities are very good too. The cottage is located in a good walking area, with a nature reserve nearby. Not ideal for the elderly or people with disabilities as there are a number of awkward steps around the property. Directions to the property were poor and need updating.

Hi we are happy you enjoyed your stay. We do specify in listing that property may not be suitable for people with mobility problems due to steps and the property is built into hillside. We will contact sykes to check direction details are up to date. Property Owner

  • "The house was lovely, love the little personal touches (painted stones and paintings) around the property."

Garden was a delight to spend time in. Kitchen well equipped. I missed having a dvd player, but weather was so good spent a lot of time outside. My only problem is the bed I slept in was so uncomfortable, it was creaky and mattress was badly out of shape. I find this with every property I stay in, the mattresses are horrendous!! (My parents slept in large bed and have no trouble, I get lumbered with small beds that are often cheaply bought and aren’t made to last) Overall a lovely holiday and after 3 separate stays at this property, the best one yet!!

We are happy you enjoyed your third stay with us. Sorry you found the bed creaky it is something we will look at. Definitely not cheap beds. We appreciate positive critiques. Property Owner

  • "What a beautiful property with amazing views."

The welcome pack was a great touch and very generous. The garden is secure for the dogs, we did find some cat poo in the garden so just one to watch out for if your dog likes to roll in smelly things. The bedrooms as huge and the beds we comy. parking can get quite difficult specially if you have a big car. Lots of lovely places to see, there is a farm a few minutes up the road that sell eggs and fresh meat. Colwyn bay beach is perfect for dogs. The only suggestion i would have for the house is maybe adding some bits to the kitchen like pint glasses and a measuring jug but its not a big deal just preference. We would highly recommend this property.

We both found Cartref Melus a lovely spacious, welcoming, very well appointed, get away from it all with a fantastic view holiday property to stay in (and retreat back to) after visiting nearby relatives & exploring the lovely area.

  • "We were very happy with our stay the only issue we had was the loose wall coping next to the edge of the garden."

Although there is a notice to say "drop" the edge infront of you is loose. I think the description near old colwyn might be a bit deceptive. Its a lengthy walk up or down a steep hill. You definitely need a car if you are staying there.

  • "Ghastly neighbour who let himself through the back gate into my kitchen door whilst I was cleaning the freezer."

When I asked him not to trespass and if there was an issue to knock on the front door he refused and said he would still come round the back door. I could have been partially unclothed as a lone female I felt very intimidated and scared after that. Asides from him it’s my second stay at this property and i love it especially the super king bed. • "The house was lovely but we had no control of the heating apart from the 2 log burners the kitchen was quite damp and always chilly it would have been better if we could have taken the chill off by turning in the heating ."

It’s not really convenient to light a fire if you’re not staying in . We didn’t want to start a fire then leave it unattended

  • "The cottage was in a pretty location, and ideal for travelling around different areas of North wales."

The cottage itself was very spacious with large rooms, but was quite dated. Lots of spiders, bugs and flies all over as they came through little cracks/holes. Also a damp musty smell in the downstairs toilet and kitchen area.

  • "This house is really lovely, comfortable and clean."

The beds are very comfortable and I have never seen so many towels! The kitchen is well equipped and the biscuits, wine and milk were very much appreciated. The main bedroom is huge, as is the bed, and the second is a lovely size. The lounge is spacious with 2 large couches and an armchair, so plenty of space for stretching out and relaxing. The garden is lovely and well kept, and the summerhouse is a real bonus. The views are spectacular from the house and garden. We would definitely recommend walking up the nature reserve behind the house as it is breathtaking, and it is quite an easy walk. It is great that the main TVs have access to Netflix and Freesat, although more instructions would have been useful. Please note that DVDs in the property have been removed due to Covid, but so has the DVD player as far as we could see. We took our own DVDs and couldn't play them. The owners were very helpful and friendly, contacting me by text a few days prior, which was really good. And responded quickly when I text with a question in the week. But we never actually met them. All in all, we loved the place and would happily stay again. We would definitely recommend it!

  • "Our second stay at Cartref Melus we absolutely love it here."

The views are amazing, the cottage is spacious, comfy with everything we could possibly need. The garden is perfect for our dog Alfie if he isn't playing with his ball he likes to lay and roll on the grass and we know the garden is safe and secure, there is also a perfect walk just around the corner on the Marian (Maid Marian as my husband calls it) with more amazing views. The beach at Colwyn Bay is dog friendly. There are also lots of dog friendly cafes and places to eat in the surrounding area. The cottage is peaceful only the sound of the birds and animals in the fields opposite. The welcome pack wine, biscuits and milk was most welcome. Luckily the weather was lovely except for one day with a bit of drizzle but didn't spoil our stay. Sadly we had to cut our holiday short due to North Wales going into lockdown with Covid 19, and Sykes advised us to leave as soon as possible which we did, but hopefully we will be back next year. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful cottage PS Love the Superking bed slept like a rock so comfy and spacious :)

  • "The cottage was lovely - very comfortable and well equipped and in a peaceful location."

Only drawback was, although we were there in July, the weather wasn't very good and we were cold. The cottage did have central heating but this didn't seem to be on at all and we couldn't find any controls. I contacted the owner who said guests don't have access to the controls but the timer is set for heating to come on low each morning - I'm not sure it did. The owner did offer to come over but also pointed out that the real fires in lounge and kitchen were made up ready to use, which we did in the evenings. We do tend to feel the cold and we did chose to stay in the cottage a bit during the day on some days, to read and relax but would have been nice to have more control over the heating. We loved the style and decor of the place and the owners had gone to a lot of trouble to make us feel welcome - welcome pack of wine, cake and biscuits etc. It was also spotlessly clean too. We'd certainly recommend it.
