  • "We enjoyed our stay at Swallow Barn and appreciated the gifts on arrival."

Instructions on recycling would be useful as every part of the country seems to do things differently! Water leaked past the shower curtain and a fixed shower screen would stop this problem. The sofas were well worn and the cushions ameliorated the discomfort but maybe it is time to replace the sofas.

The children liked the cows and birds and country views. We can recommend Colemere, Corbet Wood, Pim Hill and Nesscliffe for walks in the area. Good Chippie (cash only) in Ellesmere, where you can sit by the mere. Thank you for another lovely stay.

  • "Excellent stay."

The barn was clean and comfortable. We loved it and the kids were excited. Geoff was prompt to respond to our queries. I would recommend A few things- we could not connect to the WiFi. We were told we needed to change the settings on our devices to match the router setting but still couldn’t connect despite this. Would be worth highlighting the kind of setting retired to customers as not everyone is tech savvy . It didn’t matter much to us though as we wanted to minimise our social media presence during the holiday so we just let things be. Also the postcode took us to a totally different location though not too far away. We had to ask around to finally locate the swallow barn. May be good to highlight this in the description. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will stay here again. A great place I must say!

Entry was easy using the keys are. Everything was well set out and everything worked as it should. The cutlery draw was a bit difficult to find but apart from that, everything was good. Very good for travelling to various attractions in the area.

Geoff, the owner, was very warm and friendly on our arrival. An ideal place to relax and enjoy visiting nearby places. The local pub, the Red Lion, offers a wide range of excellent food and all the staff were very friendly and polite. I would certainly return to Swallow Barn again and would recommend to family and friends

  • "We had a fantastic stay, clean, comfortable and quiet."

Birds flying all around and a hare in the field which was fantastic to see. Four points which I think the owner should be aware of - the two large chests of drawers are not fixed to the wall and can easily topple over. Water leaked from the shower and pooled on the floor between the bath and the toilet, no matter how I put the shower curtain I couldn’t seem to prevent this (didn’t affect us at all I just wanted to report so it doesn’t damage the property). We couldn’t find any information about what we could recycle or if we needed to put the bins out during our stay. Finally it would be really helpful to use What 3 Words for the property, we booked a taxi and it couldn’t find us using the postcode, this would also be helpful if emergency services/online shopping we needed. Overall we all loved our stay and I would definitely return.

There is plenty of off road parking adjacent to the barn. It is light with views of the open countryside from all the windows which we liked. It is warm and comfortable and there are many places to visit within a short travelling distance. We self catered due to the barn’s rural location and thought it would benefit from a better set of kitchen utensils and a lidded casserole dish. The handle of one of the saucepans was broken so may not last much longer. The bathroom tiles seem to be moving do need attention too but these things did not prevent us enjoying our stay there. Thank you for the flowers, cake and milk and a good week’s holiday.

Private setting with easy access to many places of interest such as Chirk Castle, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Llanymynech Rocks and Nesscliffe Country Park and many more besides especially in the warmer months with longer daylight hours. We especially appreciated the milk and cake in the fridge and several things about the property itself: the entrance hall/utility area for drying wet coats and muddy boots, the spacious dining kitchen, the underfloor heating and, because we stayed over the Christmas period, the tree. As someone else has mentioned there is no real option to walk locally except along the road but for us this was a minor aspect and we enjoyed our stay overall very much.

It’s completely private with only daily visits from our cow neighbours who our kids (6 & 3) just loved. The rural views are gorgeous and the birds and the occasional rumble of the tractors on the lane nearby was also a delight for our youngest boy. Swallow Barn itself was spacious, uncluttered and comfortable and catered well for our home cooking and relaxing times. Like most holiday homes we always bring our own absolute essentials, ie coffee stove, kids cups and cutlery (and paddling pool for the hot weather) etc but felt that it was it was well stocked. The owner was very friendly and accommodating as we arrived very late in the pitch black and he popped on the lights so we could find it and was on hand if we needed him. We enjoyed the hottest weather (don’t forget your bug spray and wall plug ins), popped our paddling pool on the patio for daily dunks and can highly recommend this area for such a broad range of things to do and places to visit. Especially loved walking in Ellesmere/ Colemere and exploring the amazing Hawkstone Park Follies only a short drive away. Thanks for a lovely stay, we shall definitely return to Shropshire.

Would have rated 10/10 if following hadn't been missing: Mirror and wardrobe in bedroom. There is an airing cupboard in utility area where a few clothes can be hung though. Living room was much larger than expected from the photos which was a bonus. Owner was very friendly and helpful when I needed to contact him. Good supply of essentials: washing up liquid, toilet paper, dishwasher tabs, kitchen roll, etc. A good selection of DVDs and local activity info pamphlets were provided. CONs - mostly well equipped, but there was no tumble drier, and crockery was a bit sparse (only 3 bowls for 4 people). Beds were very hard and we didn’t find them comfortable. WiFi access was very poor. We contacted the owner about this, and he was very helpful, but in the end, we learned that we just needed to reboot it several times a day, sometimes several times an hour. This was frustrating when trying to skype home to my husband when we would lose internet repeatedly during the same call or when trying to research, book, and pay for activities. There was no information provided in the barn regarding things like recycling and what to do with rubbish. Being a bungalow, we didn’t feel safe having the windows open at night, as there was no way to safely lock them just partially open, so in this current summer heat, we were uncomfortably warm at night.
