  • "We had a very enjoyable and relaxing week at Seaside Retreat, even though it was quite late in the season the weather was good for the time of year."

The bungalow suited us perfectly and is well situated for walks on the sands and within easy reach of Porthmadog and the surrounding area. Its a pity there was not a full sized vacuum cleaner as we like to leave places we stay clean and tidy. Maybe the bathroom needs a little attention otherwise no complaints. Would definitely like to visit again in the future.

  • "We recently stayed at Seaside Retreat in Porthmadog for two weeks, and while the location and overall setting were beautiful, unfortunately, we experienced an issue with the property that significantly impacted our stay."

Shortly after we arrived, we were contacted by the property manager, Shaleese, who informed us that the front door would only lock from the inside. She assured us that she was working on a solution and that someone would come out to fix it. While we appreciated her keeping us in the loop, communication after that was a bit delayed and slow. After following up with Sykes Cottages directly, we were told that a repair would happen on Monday evening, but this didn't take place until Tuesday. When the maintenance team arrived, they assessed the door but couldn’t fix it immediately, saying they needed to source a part from a local shop in Porthmadog. The following day, we were told that the part wasn’t available locally and would need to be ordered online. It was disappointing that the repair took several days, and even after the lock was finally replaced, the door still only locked from the inside and not the outside. As a result, throughout our holiday, we had to keep one person at the property at all times to ensure our belongings were safe, since we couldn’t lock the front door from the outside. This definitely limited our ability to fully enjoy our time away as a group, which was unfortunate. That said, I do want to acknowledge that the property itself was lovely. The location in Porthmadog is fantastic – peaceful, scenic, and just what we were looking for in a coastal retreat. The cottage had a lot of potential for a perfect holiday, and it’s clear that when this door issue is resolved, it could be an ideal place to stay. We understand that things like this happen, and it was evident that both the property manager and Sykes were working to try and fix the problem, though it’s just a shame that it couldn’t be fully resolved within our two-week stay. Hopefully, future guests won’t have the same issue, and I’m sure they’ll have a wonderful experience.

  • "Thank you for such a lovely place to stay."

Everything was as good as we could have wished for, it was; clean, comfortable, spacious, great location, had everything we needed in the house. I know you clean the house after each visit, but if we could have found the vacuum, we'd have cleaned up too for you :¬)

  • "We loved the bungalow, very clean, spacious, great location; 10 minutes flat walking to the beach, or the other way to have coffee or lunch in the golf club and short drive to Porthmadog shops."

Would definitely love to stay again. The only criticism was the times the heating came on. Don’t know if this was because we were there the weekend the clocks changed but ideally it’d be nice to have it warm to shower, get dressed and breakfast and for it to be warm early evening when we arrived back to have dinner. There were instructions to turn up the thermostat but that didn’t seem to do the job. There is a small electric fire in the lounge, but that just heats the lounge. The heating seemed to be on at bizarre times like during the night so the bedroom was too hot, but cold in the morning to get up, we were up around 7am. And cold to have a shower. The microwave needs replacing as the lining is peeling off; not sure how safe that is to use. Otherwise, a perfect stay! Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback. The heating controls have now been reset and a schedule put in place so this issue should not happen again, the heating also can be turned up or down from the control in the hall. There is now a new microwave in place. Property Owner

  • "Accommodation is adequate and comfortable."

We enjoyed our stay and the property is close to Black Rock Sands. One panel of fence to side of property is down and felt that security to back of property was not secure enough. Back garden needs some tidying.

Thank you for your feedback, the fence panel had fallen down in the strong winds that we had at the time, the whole of the fence has now been replaced with new concrete posts and fence panels, so completely secure again. We have now got new gardeners who are making sure the gardens are kept tidy. Property Owner

It is in a quiet location, 2 miles from the centre of Porthmadog and 5 minutes walk from the beach at Black Rock Sands. There is a good local bus service several times a day into the centre of Porthmadog. We enjoyed our stay at Seaside Retreat and would highly recommend it. The weather was perfect too.

  • "We loved our holiday in Seaside Retreat The bungalow was immaculate and so roomy."

So well laid out and we loved the furnishings and decor - a real seaside feel with the pictures and ornaments. Comfy beds, loads of hot water, good shower and the kitchen diner was ideal. Only a little moan - no teapot and no egg cups. A short ride to Portmadog - good shops and roads to explore the whole area. All in all a lovely holiday home which we would be happy to stay in again.

The bungalow was modern, comfy and charming. We all looked forward to going back of an evening to spend the night. The beach was a quick walk down the road. Hoping to return in the summer.

  • "Nice location."

Some general feedback: Master bedroom bed was not comfortable No bins in bedrooms or the bathroom Bath towels were tiny and not adequate. No clothes horse for drying clothes. Also could not find any pegs for the washing line. No teapot available. We had a nice stay overall. I have a few medical problems so spend a lot of time inside and comfort is important.

Sorry you felt the master bed was uncomfortable, but we have never had any complaints before or since. The bath towels are standard towels used in holiday lets, sizes recommended by Sykes There is a electric clothes horse that is always available for use in the property. Property Owner

  • "Our feedback on the seaside retreat was it was very good, great location, however a few things let the place down."

Firstly the cleaning was poor in places particularly dust on window sills and bedside tables, under the beds and around the skirting boards. As we had a little one crawling around we had to clean everywhere before we could settle in. The second is chipped crockery not replaced.

Sorry to hear about the issue of cleanliness. We have been in contact with our cleaning team and they will ensure that there is no repeat of this problem. We hope this did not spoil your holiday Property Owner

  • "Nice property in a wonderful location let down somewhat by cleanliness."

In particular the oven and grill pan were filthy on arrival. Also could have been cleaner around skirting boards and under beds. Well stocked kitchen but a tea pot would have been nice as would a bath mat for the bathroom floor. An outside tap would be a good addition for rinsing sand off feet when returning from the beach. We are already booked to return later in the year and are looking forward to it but hope it is a bit cleaner on arrival next time.

  • "Loved our seaside retreat."

Photos don't do it justice. Can not begin to explain how relaxing and restful this place is. Utterly lovely. The bungalow is well equipped and although it has a few bits here and there that stop it being perfect, it's faults are easily forgiven. Fab location - mountains one side, 4 or 5 minute walk to the most amazing beach, even less to the corner shop and a cracking little chip shop. The bungalow is bright, airy, comfy and clean. Blinds in front bedrooms do a good job of stopping the outside light getting in. Memory foam mattress and nice bedding was lovely surprise. Towels and shower were lovely too. Kitchen was well equipped and the washer worked well. Garden was nice too - ate out a number of times and it was lovely. Only downsides Knives could do with being sharpened. Could do with a longer extension lead in the bedroom. Kitchen bin isn't great - it tears the bags when you change them. Could do with an extra set of bedding /towels available for people staying longer than a week or two (we stayed 3 wks). All first world problems and none would put us off returning. Totally love this place.
