  • "Hi the cottage was a nice cottage except for the upstairs being very cold, actually freezing on the first two nights."

Did speak to the owner who replied she could not but the heating up to much due to being expensive. Replied saying they was plenty of blankets and electric blankets on the beds. I felt uncomfortable asking the owner to turn the heating up I was freezing during the night. We had to use extra wood logs to keep the house warm. Will enclose photos of the heating in the main room which the owner controlled from her end. Temperature being on 10. We decided to go home two days later. Not very happy with having to leave so early. Kind regards

As I explained, the temperature on the heaters is not what the ambient temperature is, which was 19.5. I also took a photo. (I was sorry that you didn’t want to use any of the other heating methods. There was even a plug in heater available) . I then put it up so that the temperature was 23 in all rooms, day and night, as you requested (your husband had a cold). The heating system is not faulty, the housekeeper has confirmed. When you left, you turned the heaters off, which is clearly marked that you shouldn’t do. You also had a cat there which you hadn’t informed Sykes about. I’m sorry you felt you had to leave. Hi, glad you enjoyed your time there! It’s very difficult at this time of the year! The weather is so changeable! Knowing when to start leaving wood out can tricky so sorry you were cold! My contact details are available should anyone want anything…. Property Owner

  • "Overall a lovely cottage."

Extremely clean and presented. Great location, peaceful. Only negative was the garden. It just needs a good sweep of the fallen leaves that made the steps dangerous. And the furniture in the garden a wipe down. Parking the car was fine, just have someone wave you out. Thanks for a week of sunshine!!!

Thank you so much for your positive feedback. Sadly, sometimes it is impossible to clean all the leaves before guests arrive. Luckily, there are handrails. The other, smaller, garden at the front is less impacted by leaves! Property Owner

There should be a warning about the top of the stairs.

So sorry to hear this! I imagine you are referring to the back garden. It was weeded recently so am surprised to hear. I’m not sure what you mean about the top step. It has been stable up until now. Thankfully there is a hand rail. I will be there at the weekend to check! Property Owner

All the little extras are what make it that bit special i.e dog poo bags, torches, hi viz waist coat, spices, foil - things that you could easily forget to bring - but they provide them for you. Cottage was lovely and close by is Bala Lake and a short drive to most other places. Enjoyable, comfortable stay. The seating on one of the sofa's is a bit worn but apart from that all was fine.

Thank you for your feedback! I will be there soon to look at the sofa! Thanks for bringing it to my attention! Property Owner

Situated within easy reach of all the places we wanted to visit and more. The dog was spoilt with a dog bed, treats and plenty of walks. The cottage had everything we needed. We struggled to get the fire lit and felt it was a little cold at times but this didn't spoil our time there. We will definitely be back. Thank you for making our stay so memorable

  • "Parking is dangerous as you cannot see up the road and vehicles come down fast."

Garden steps very slippery. Temperature set at 7 degrees in the bedroom so not warm enough. Otherwise cottage was comfortable.

Hi, I’m glad you thought Cartrefle was comfortable. Stone steps do get very slippy- we hope the hand rail in the back garden helped! We hope you were able to benefit from the garden at the front of the house. Luckily, being in a small hamlet, the traffic is not heavy but yes, sometimes, tractors do travel fast. Parking at the top of the (small) hill is also possible, if needed. I appreciate that you felt cold in the bedroom. The temperature on the heaters is not the same as the ambient temperature, which can be misleading. I hope that despite that, you were able to appreciate what Bala has to offer. Property Owner

  • "This is a wonderfully modernized property with everything you need for a relaxing holiday."

To be critical as is typical of other holiday cottages it sleeps 3 so why are there 10 mugs, loads of wine glasses, 8 sets of crockery, more cushions than we could count etc which limits storage particularly for food and drink. Don't like not being able to control the heating ourselves. On property description add that it has a Tassimo coffee machine. Easier to buy beforehand! Duvet on the bed far too heavy and warm. Saying all that really enjoyed our stay and would book again

Thanks for the useful advice re: coffee! I apologise about the heating. There had been a power cut which meant it was all a bit cock a hoop! Normally okay! I get what you say about the cushions!! I hope to see you again! Property Owner

We were not able to use the back door as the scaffolding was still up from recent work on next doorThis ment we were unable to let the dog out,the cottage is on the road while not a main road it caused some concern.

I had read there was work on at the beginning of the year but thought it would have been complete at the end of April. The workmen were on the roof hammering most of the day and we couldn't sit out either at the back or the front. The back of our cottage was unsightly as well with rubbish from the work going on. I did note in the guest book that a 20% discount was given because of this situation, I haven't been offered that.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I was assured that the work would be finished by Easter. Communication has been poor. I will speak to Sykes. I would be happy to offer you some compensation. Property Owner

  • "Such a lovely little cottage."

Full of character and very comfortable. Kitchen had everything you need, beds were comfortable and a nice bathroom. The only thing I would say is that the property owner had control of the heating so we couldn’t turn it up or down ourselves, it was cold in the cottage so we had to have the heater on most of the time and the heated blanket on the bed every night. It did say in the manual that we could message the owner to turn it up which we did the first night but we didn’t notice any difference.

Hi, I’m so glad you liked the cottage! I’m so sorry to hear that you felt it was cold. I keep it on a schedule (21 degrees downstairs, cooler upstairs) so I guess it must have been a cold few days there. I hope it didn’t spoil your time there.. Property Owner
