  • "We stayed in this property in August, from the moment we walked through the door we knew it was uncared for."

We complained to Sykes from the beginning as this was supposed to be a last holiday for a terminal ill family member. I cannot believe the other reviews say how clean the house is, as this was far from the case, from wrappers left on the windowsill, blue roll stuff between the gaps in the window, mould on the blinds, dirt and dust all over the house, dead flys and spiders, holes in the walls, dirty hand marks on the doors, stains on the curtains just generally very unclean, the shower was help up with cable ties the oven was dirty there wasn't a single room that didn't have a issue, The broken toilet seat mentioned in a pervious review from a year ago is still broken. Fire blanket is also old and hasn't been checked since 1990s. Very obvious that no repairs have been carried for this property for a fair few years. One of the responses we had back about the rust and the mould in the bathroom was because people had not opened the window while showering. I'm appalled that sykes cottages have this property on there books, when we contacted them regarding the state of the property they did not care at all!! Sykes are only interested in taking money from all without any care for the customers. For owners that care about about there properties and put in so much hard work and love, they would be mortified of the diabolical condition of the property. It could be a beautiful property and is in a lovely location but needs so much work on it. As a family we have been booking with Sykes for decades and have never ever complained before we have never had any issues like this before, so very disappointed how Sykes deal with there complaints. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK!!! Pictures will be available on TripAdvisor please take a look.

  • "This is a lovely property, truly in the middle of nowhere, which was lovely."

Some simple maintainence wasn't spot on. One of the toilet seats was only attached on one side. That was 'interesting' if you weren't paying attention, and the sliding wardrobe doors in one bedroom are falling off of their runners. Next doors dogs seem to be able to get into the back garden, so it's definitely not totally secure. Our dog didn't figure out the escape route though, thankfully. There are lovely views across to the Holyhead port at the back of the property, and views of a pretty lake from upstairs at the front. The property is large and very comfortable throughout. There was plenty of room for five of us and our dog. The beds were all comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and the garden was neat and tidy. We would book this property again if we decide to visit Anglesey again.

  • "The good things, spacious, quiet location and a lovely garden with loads of parking."

The bad things, Toilet seat broke, my daughter who is 7 months pregnant almost slipped off it. I went to tighten it up but there was actually no fitting at all on one side. No locks on the bathrooms, could be cleaner (we left it much cleaner than when we first entered it), beds are very uncomfortable. No logs for the fire as was stated in the advert, we were really looking forward to that part.

  • "On entering the property it smelt musty and damp."

It was soon evident that the property had a damp problem in the master bedroom and living room. Bedding felt damp and there were patches of water ingress around most of the walls and bubbling paintwork. Inside the wardrobe had damp patches and all clothes also ended up smelt musty too. There were damp patches on walls in the living room too with a plug socket that was rusting to a point where I used an extension cable to a safer looking plug. The TV Ariel was badly wired causing picture and sound drop out. On the second day I had to get a £20 streaming stick to solve the issue. On the second day the toilet seat broke in the shower room. We notified the owners immediately about this and other issues but received no reply or offer to fix the toilet seat. The plug socket in the hallway looks like it had been replaced and very poor plastering was evident and was probably due to damp too. A plug in the damp master bedroom was corroding on the top, again a damp issue. The property in general as well as outbuildings and gates were in disrepair. We felt the outdoor shed area was dangerous for anyone to go near , full of holes and falling apart. A rail going up the steps to the conservatory was also wobbly with loose screws. We understand broadband was slow but a simple bit of Ethernet cabling to the old TVs would have helped. In the conservatory there were wires coming out of the wall and the soundbar was coming away from the wall. There was a general unclean feel around the whole property and poor maintenance. The owners can back to us, through you, stating that the sealant around showers, sinks and baths had no gaps and was just messy. How hard is it to get sealant right and stop it from going black. We were disgusted at the state of the microwave which was rusting badly under the glass rotating plate. Some of the beds had old sprung mattresses that were noisy when you turned over and woke you up. The owners said they had put mattress toppers on but they were thin quilted toppers that did nothing for comfort or noise. We sent 12 text messages to the owners directly after getting a message from Paul asking if we had settled in and being told there would be a 5 hour power cut on day due to tree felling. We are now back home and we’ve not had a single reply to any text message. Instead, half way through the holiday we eventually got a reply from them though Sykes with excuses and that things would be fixed when we leave. We tried to get alternative accommodation but everything was booked solid. In the end we kept away from the property for as long as possible each day and my 75 year old mother was forced to sleep on the sofa in the conservatory which was not ideal. Reading legacy reviews on Sykes there are quite a few that mention the same issues with this property. The owners have done the bare minimum to rectify the issues. If they know there is a damp problem surely that must be noted in the listing. If they know the repair work is messy then let customers know! We had some great times out in Anglesey but it was spoilt by staying in a poorly maintained, damp, musty property. I have video and photo evidence of all the issues I’ve stated and will be seeking a refund. I offered 50% at first but due to their lack of after service I’ll now be seeking a full refund.

Ama,ing views to the front and back and a very quiet peaceful setting. Many memories to rekindle and places to visit. Plenty of space, well equipped and clean. With weather that was more like March or November we found the conservatory a get space for boots, coats and everything else. Glad to have two bathrooms and plenty of bedroom space. The garden was pleasant, if only we could have spent more time in it. Overall some aspects of the property were a little tired and need of updating but as a relaxing holiday home we found it perfect.

perfect location, stunning views. Every room is very big, the garden is exceptional. Very secure for my dogs, and there was a gate at the bottom of the garden leading to some fields, bonus. Few minor issues, bottom oven, rear bathroom shower head and we couldn't fathom the bath, as I said minor issues but a little TLC to be perfect. There was an issue with the neighbour and allowing his dog to dirty in the cottage drive, but I made my views known and this stopped. All in all very accommodating, would definitely recommend and will return.

  • "We stayed at Llys Llywenan last year so knew what to expect."

The property appears to be a cowshed conversion and suffers from damp in places resulting in damage to the decor and some mustiness if rooms (specifically the hall) aren't kept ventilated. The kitchen and dining equipment needs attention: almost every plate was either chipped or cracked and we didn't have as many saucepans as we would have liked. However, it was ideal for what we wanted. Just three of us and a dog. We felt relaxed and there was plenty of space; hot water 24 hours a day and heating easy to use if we needed to put it on for an hour (or more). As others have said, the fridge would need to be bigger if the cottage was used to capacity - we filled it up on our arrival, as we tend to shop as few times as possible (that's not why we go on holiday). The dog loved the safe, enclosed garden as did the rabbits and red squirrels. As we have now finished walking the Anglesey Coastal Path we are unlikely to return, but we would have no hesitation in booking Llys Llywenan again, or recommending it to others as long as they are not too bothered about minor imperfections.

Big and spacious rooms. We enjoyed our stay, managed to have a BBQ. We purchased a disposable one to rest on top of the one the one in store room. The snug upstairs was lovely to watch the animals near the lake. Only thing I found as a negative was dog hairs on floor, cobwebs all over, dead flies on carpet. We had to hoover place on arrival. The garden table was held together with sellotape and kept falling apart. Great base to visit Hollyhead, RAF Valley, nearby beaches... Enjoyed some nice walks. Lovely touch of receiving a bottle of wine on arrival. Overall loved the property, location, views and peacefulness.

  • "The cottage was a real home from home ."

The pictures did not do it justice as it was a lot bigger than we expected. The bedrooms were of a good size and the bed we slept in was really comfortable. Although there were only 2 adults in our party , the cottage could house 8 people quite easily . We really enjoyed sitting in the conservatory watching the sun set after a day out sight seeing. The sofas were comfortable especially in the conservatory. The kitchen cupboards were spacious and the utensils were all you could need . The garden was a really good size and our dog spent hours running around it and tried it’s best to communicate with the horses in the field opposite. The snug was a great addition as it overlooked the lake opposite the front of the house, it was a shame that there was no access to walk around it. The only negative aspect was that the wi fi was not very strong and the signal for the tv’s in the bedrooms was poor and could not pick up the channels . Apart from that we had a great week and would highly recommend the cottage to family and friends.

Although I had booked for 4 people but emailed yourselves and spoken to owner in advance to say there would be 5 of us only towels for 4 people were left for us to use. Bedrooms all large with plenty of storage space. Garden fab our lab loved running round it. Good to see a washing line too which we used most day to dry towels. Views front over the lake though you can't walk around the lake. To the back views stretch over to Holyhead and you can see the ferries come in and out. Holyhead closest for all major supermarkets and shops only 10 min away in the car. Would say there are issues when it rains especially in largest bedroom lots of evidence wet patches on all walls, but this want a problem and didn't affect our holiday. Looks like the owner is addressing this as we can see remedial work has been started on the flat roof. Situated on quiet road only a few cars a day went past.

  • "Second night, roof leaked water soaking one bed, contacted owner who in fairness came quickly with a local builder but they where not sure what caused the leak."

The main bedroom suffers badly from damp which left a poor smell in the room, damp is also obvious in the hall and main living area walls which has started to ingress into the plug sockets. I spoke to the owner about the damp and he said, because it is an old building and has no dpc, you expect some damp which he usually treat and repaints. The properties facilities are excellent as is the rear garden, however as this is listed as pet friendly it should be noted that the surrounding roads are 60 mph with no footpath and the lake opposite the property which gives a great view from upstairs has no path or access to walk a dog. which when heavy farm machinery comes past it is quite an experience that we do not want to have again. Teenagers complained that wifi was to poor to stream, this i only found out on the Friday before the holiday. I feel that a more accurate listing of the property and the surrounding area would have been more helpful when selecting a property from your site. We have holidayed on Anglesey for over twenty years and this is the first time that we have come away disappointed and glad to come back home.

Even so, I had a friendly and clear call from the owner giving me all the information we needed for our stay. We arrived at the cottage and were very surprised at the size of the place and the views from the front and back. There were no photos of the "snug" on the website. But what a room with fantastic views overlooking the lake. The back views were also beautiful, looking across the rolling patchwork of fields. I spent many an hour sitting in the large conservatory watching the ferries seemly flying across the sky as they made their way in and out of Holyhead. We saw plenty of wildlife in the garden too. We were paid a visit by a red squirrel one day. The layout of the bedrooms was very versatile, with one king size, two doubles and a twin room. The storage was very good in all of the bedrooms. The kitchen was well equipped with all of the things we needed for cooking and there was also plenty of storage space in the cupboards if you had lots of supplies. There was a bathroom and shower room, which also pleased both camps. The water was always piping hot and the water pressure very powerful in the shower. The cottage was in a very quiet location which is what we wanted, but it was only a 10 minutes drive away from some good restaurants and take-aways, with larger supermarkets only on a further 5 minutes. I would definitely recommend this cottage for a lovely scenic break.

On arrival i was surprised just how quiet the location actually was given that the image shows it being on the side of the road.Do not be put off by that - it was really quiet !! On entering the property i was stunned by the size of the extremely well equipped and gorgeous kitchen. The living room was enormous and so very comfortable. The conservatory was beautiful too, however in the heat we were having at the time it was far too hot for us. That isn't a negative on the property, it was just so hot outside that it was unbearable !! The garden is lovely, my 2 year old granddaughter and my 9 year old Boxer dog had an absolute ball playing in the vast space !! The bedrooms were, like the rest of the property, beautifully equipped, with more than enough storage and very very comfortable beds !!! I cannot rate this property highly enough. I've rented many holiday properties over the years and this has to be one of, if not the best. You know its good when the only two complaints are the kitchen knives being blunt, and the absence of locks on the two bathrooms. Would i rent this again? You bet i would !!
