  • "The cottage is well located for exploring Snowdonia area, very quiet area with lovely view, shop and pub just 15 minute walk."

Upstairs the bedroom was comfortable and the shower fantastic. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the general upkeep of the cottage though and lack of maintenance especially to the outdoor areas. It felt very basic and not homely or cosy.

  • "The views are fabulous at the rear of the cottage but the cottage itself is sadly neglected and in need of investment ."

There is black mould in both bedrooms. The down stairs furnishings are basic at best. The back garden is a small triangle of unkempt grass and gravel and what appears to be a stink pipe is situated in the middle- the garden deck chairs are covered in green mould. Also the view when sitting in the back area is considerably obscured by the fence.

  • "The back garden was rather over grown but on the pictures on the Sykes holiday site it showed it being all gravel and kept nice."

We had a small dog with us and if she hadn't been old she would have been under the fence in the back garden as there is big gaps at the bottom, perhaps chicken wire would be a good thing to try. Also the front garden the hedge and trees were very over grown, and they brushed against our faces when going through the gate. Also there was a lot of mould on the skirting boards in the front bedroom closest to the window. One of the windows in the back bedroom was held together with black tape which was worrying when it got warm as we didn't feel safe opening it. The rest of the cottage was amazing and very homely. If these issues are dealt with we would love to know as we'd love to book it again for another time :)

  • "Worse place to stay."

Filthy. Damp and garden very unkept. Not an ideal place to enjoy. Pictures are very deceiving. Step outside the tiny area near kitchen very dangerous. (Brise block used as step!)The worth part of this cottage is the awful septic smell coming through the bathroom which spreads through the whole place. This cottage has been well renovated but is not an ideal place to stay and relax. Garden certainly not ideal for dogs. Needs a good gardener and an experienced cleaner.

  • "The cottage was as described and we had a lovely time the views from the back of beautiful."

We will definitely recommend this cottage, especially for people with dogs because of the location and the safety of the garden. The only problem we had was the shower it didn’t drain properly. We contacted the owners who sent someone to look at it, they tried to fix it with partial success so for 2 of us with long hair to wash it in the shower was impossible without the shower flooding. If this hadn’t been a problem, the cottage would’ve been perfect for us.

  • "Lovely spacious cottage in the heart of Snowdonia."

We really enjoyed our stay there. What we really liked: - Location! The village is stunning. Shop, pub, plenty of walks around and this vibe. - Fully equipped, modern kitchen overlooking village. - Nice bathroom with huge shower. - Spacious bedrooms sleeping up to 5 - Cosy living room with wood burner and huge variety of books and board games. - Back garden, although very small, with fabulous views and sheep grazing in front of it. What need some attention: - Cottage needs some TLC. Small things like some lights don’t work, lamps without shades etc. - Cleanliness wasn’t as expected. Cobwebs, dirty kitchen utensils, spots of black mould in the sower. Nothing we couldn’t clean ourselves in few minutes but not the best impression. Overall strong 4/5 stars. Very nice place to stay and can recommend to everyone who is looking for accommodation in the heart of snowdonia.

  • "The property was great."

It was a shame there was no heating, it got really cold in the rooms and toilet. There was no washing machine as listed. There is no wife and mobile signal is nearly inexistent, so it got difficult to plan routes and communicate with family members. The house has lovely views and we had a great time watching the birds.

  • "Cottage was nice and spacious and well laid out ideal for the 2 of us and a good size for 2 adults and 2 children."

The views at the rear of the house are amazing. Parking is very short of supply we was lucky to always park but if the other cottages where being used it would have been difficult. A welcome information pack would have been helpful just explaining the heating system and rubbish recycling etc would have been really helpful. The cottage was generally clean but we did have to go around the downstairs floors as still dusty and a few cobwebs in the rear bedroom. We did have to call the owner on arrival to find out about the heating and he did call us back pretty quick and was very helpful. The cottage doesn’t have a washing machine or WiFi. For a week you can live without it but if you have kids these might be must. Be mindful the cottage is up a very steep hill and a good 20 minute walk to the local shop and pub. Overall we had a pleasant stay here.

  • "The cottage is well equipped and in a prime location to explore Snowdonia National Park."

We had a comfortable stay there. Thank you. However there are a few areas that could be improved on. Our first thoughts on arriving at the cottage were that it could do with a decent spring clean- there were extensive cobwebs gathering dust in all rooms of the house. The shower tray had hairs in the corner, had some mould on the shower panels and there were hair on the floor under the towel rail. The oven was grubby inside and the grill tray had old fat dripping from the grill rack- it is obvious it had not been cleaned between lettings. On going to use the cheese grater it was used and not cleaned between use. The fridge drawers/shelves were grubby too with crumbs and an old garlic clove remaining. If the standard of cleaning was improved, we would improve our stay rating to 5/5. Aside from these initial thoughts we soon found ourselves at home. The heating system was effective. The house was always warm and hot water was available for showering when required. It is a lovely cosy cottage. To help with some queries we had, it would be beneficial to have a small welcome pack. Such a pack could provide information about how to dispose of waste- what days to put out the bin etc, how to turn off the heating if too hot- we turned down the radiator thermostats. We did not find a room thermstat. Details about the local amentities eg Pub/shop in the village would help some visitors too. Thankfully, there was a very helpful neighbour who helped us with key info about waste collection, as it was obvious all waste had been placed in a general waste bin by previous letters. None the less, we had a comfortable enjoyable stay in this lovely cottage. Additionally, we had some issues with battery charged smoke detector (mounted in the stair well). It kept going off randomly for no obvious course eg overnight. ? if it needs a new battery. We could not find any batteries to replace with. There was a drawer with random old batteries in but none appropriate to use. Inaccuracies in listing: No CD/Radio- not required by us No fuel/starter pack for Multi fuel stove- would have been nice to have No bike storage- unless the gas bottle storage is proposed No BBQ- not required at this time of year but listed

  • "Poor description to locate address."

No radio as stated in description. Cleanliness in kitchen low , table was filthy, large cooking items were not cleaned properly. The fridge would advise to change door position to other side as caused so many issues due to open when close to kitchen entrance door . No rubbish bags were supplied as being there just under a week were definitely needed (we had to purchase some). Candles should be supplied as we had two power cuts whilst during our location .

Just needs few tweaks to make it perfect. Love the little village it’s located in and the neighbours are very welcoming to guests. The outside areas of the property would be amazing with some maintenance especially the back yard from the kitchen. Inside is perfect. Loved the beds and bedding, the shower is amazing (drains a little smelly and more towels please especially hand towels, we only had 1 for four people) and downstairs so comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need but would benefit from a washing machine. We came to the cottage after a week on a canal boat thinking there was one as per the pictures but when we arrived it had been removed. The lounge was lovely, just needs either a coffee table or a nest of tables to pop your cups and glasses down when relaxing. In a great location for exploring North Wales. Overall would highly recommend.

Beautiful views from the patio door in the kitchen. The property was very clean and everything needed was supplied. I would recommend the provision of an information booklet for local services and the operation of heating etc. The only problem we had on arrival in the village was locating the property but after talking to the friendly locals we landed. I would recommend a stay here for it's location to the North Wales attractions.

  • "We loved our stay in Penmachno."

It is a tiny village an easy 10 minute drive from the hub of Betws y Coed. The cottage itself was plenty big enough for our family of 4 plus a dog. It was beautifully clean on arrival. The wood burner was lovely and cozy in the evenings. The view from the back garden is stunning. The kitchen had plenty of utensils. All towels and bedding included. There are lots of books, some DVDs and a couple of games but they had bits missing so the kids couldn't enjoy them. We knew there was no Wifi, we managed to get a tiny bit of 4g network in the large bedroom. No hairdryer. Would recommend Hanging pizzeria in Betws for food. We would recommend some of the walks from Gwydir forest....lots of beautiful, clearly marked walks (about 10 min drive). If you fancy a wild swim then you have to walk to the waterfalls on Watkin Path (about 40 min drive). We had to figure out a couple of things as there were no guidance notes in the cottage. The rubbish seems to be collected on Mondays and we had to put the rubbish out on Sunday from the previous residents as the bins were fairly full when we arrived. We figured out the recycling. You can turn on the heating on the boiler in the kitchen if needed by moving the switch to "on". There is no washing machine in the property! For anyone who travels with children they will understand how annoying this was....especially when the listing stated that there was a washing machine. This needs to be made clear to future visitors. All in all a fabulous stay. We liased with the cleaner Lisa who was really helpful with any questions regarding arrival, departure etc.

  • "We have just stayed here and unfortunately there was more cons than pros, I will start with the pros - amazing views from the property - all neighbours were very nice and very accommodating - even though there is no set parking we had no issues getting our 2 cars parked close to the property Now moving on to the not so good bits - the gardens both front & back where very overgrown to the point we had to cut some vines down to gain access to the front garden, this wasn't ideal with 2 dogs also the back garden walk out was very unstable and in the front there was a big pile of cut down branches that have been left to rot - the property itself was ok but very much in need of some TLC there was patches of mould and damp in both the bedrooms and kitchen."

The front bedroom had a very big water leak patch that looks rather unsightly, the bathroom shower was partly broken and there was chips in the bath along with some more mould. The kitchen I think was the worst, this was home to the biggest of the mould patches and this has also worked into the cupboards causing one of them to break, the tap had a really bad leak that sent water over the surfaces with you turned the tap on. The top left hop seemed to be on the blink and didn't work correctly like the others and the toaster was very subpar. The thing that bothered us the most is how unclean the property was, we were made aware of a few stains on the front room carpet and the broken boiler door before we visited & was also told the property had been cleaned which was fine but when we arrived the dust and cobwebs and small 8 legged friends was pretty bad, it looked like the place hadn't been cleaned in months, this also carried on into the towels and bed linen, the towels smelt very damp and had stains on, same with the bed sheets, they had rips and stains on too. White isn't a good idea when they aren't white white Unfortunately these points really let the property down and for the money we paid we wish these points weren't there but with some TLC and money put back In to the property it would be a really lovely place as I stated the neighbours and the view were absolutely amazing ! Also getting some WiFi access set up would be a major bonus

Hello, I'm sorry you had some negative experience at the cottage, and I would like to let you know that it's now been all fully renovated, see pictures, ref 8420, if you did decide to go back I'll make sure to give you a good discount... Regards Jp Fuentes Property Owner

The landlord was helpful and apologetic about the decorating that needed doing because of damp during lockdown. The TV was not working. The setting was really lovely and the view across the valley was particularly glorious during a red sunset on the first night. Photos of the bedrooms do not make it clear quite how small they are. Whoever cut the grass in the little garden beyond the kitchen did not bother to collect the cuttings or even just throw them to the sheep beyond with the result that I was clearing them off the kitchen floor for much of our visit. I found myself paying £90 to one agency and a similar sum to Sykes Cottages which put up the cost of renting the cottage considerably. It seems to me that it would be fairer if they both took a smaller cut.
