  • "We had a great second visit to this bijou Shepherd’s hut."

The area is fantastic for bird-watching and sea-gazing and the view from the hut is amazing. I don’t think I could ever tire of seeing how the sea and sky change there. We had a couple of wonderful days at RSPB South Stack nearby and enjoyed walks on The Range, a beautiful heath on top of cliffs a short walk from the hut. Rare flowers, butterflies, hundreds of swallows, choughs and an array of seabirds crowd into this area- amazing! We came without a car, taking the train, and were satisfied with what we could see and do within walking distance. We took a taxi a couple of times, which were more pricey than in a town, but reasonable and we’re happy to accept card payments.Supermarkets are happy to deliver there so we were self-sufficient for the week. The hut is well-equipped and we knew to expect the small induction hob with two plates (there is no actual oven). Towels and linen are supplied and it was cosy and comfortable. The wood burning stove was gratefully received as it was a surprisingly chilly and windy week for the end of May. When the wind blew during the night, it was difficult to ignore the noise, which was the only thing that impinged on our comfort. Visitors need to be aware there is no TV or radio, which suited us, but might not suit others. The host is very friendly and goes out of her way to arrange for your comfort. It was great to find bottles of water and snacks when we arrived. We would definitely book again for the incredible sense of peace and quiet you get here.

If you just want a simple break away from the world this is the place. The hut is simple but it has all you need, the view is spectacular and being where it is the wildlife and farm animals are lovely. Didn’t meet the owner in person but I left something behind and she popped it in the post with no issues and couldn’t have been nicer. Only thing to be aware of is it is very open to the elements and can get a bit blustery when you sit outside…. But apart from that this is a beautiful place to stay can’t wait to go back!

Gwyneth was very helpful. If there was one negative, we would say the flies were a problem, we fully understand we are on a working farm, but may be a fly zapper or fly papers could be installed along with a fly screen over the double doors. It was not good having everything bedding etc covered in fly excrement! Apart from that a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Gwyneth looked after us and was able to recommend lots to do in the area. It really was a lovely get-away-from-it-all experience. There are lots of great walks that can be done from the property and also some beaches a short drive away including the beautiful Trearrdur bay. The property has all tools and utensils you’d need to cook your own meals including a 2 ring induction hob. We also took a mini barbq which we were able to use outside. The fridge is a good size with a small freezer compartment at the top ideal for ice blocks for picnics. We didn’t need to use the log burner as it was very warm. We really enjoyed watching the sunset each night from our decking. We can’t wait to come back!

Its set in a beautiful and peaceful location. The property has superb views.Looking out from the front you see views of open felds with the sea in the distance. The bedroom window then provides you with a stunning view of the mountains to the right! The hut itself was spotlessly clean .The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a basic meal. The shower was great and we found the bed very comfortable. We couldn't have wished for anymore really. Gwyneth, the property owner, is a lovely welcoming lady. She kindly gave us lots of useful information on the local area when we arrived.Which we found really useful. She even popped round one day with some newly laid eggs that were absolutely delicious! During our 5 night stay we found plenty to do. Walking up the mountain is a must .Its quite an easy ramble up there but if you don't fancy clambering to the top then there are plenty of tracks to explore at the bottom around the country park. We also enjoyed a coastal walk around Rhoscolyn one day.The 7 mile walk provided us with the added bonus of some well needed refreshments at the end at the pub ,The white eagle. South stack is a nice little stroll away and is definitely worth a visit too. We enjoyed a few morning dips in the sea.we found that Porth Dafarch was the closest and best place for us to do this. The Beach there is gorgeous. We would recommend Sunday lunch at langdons in holyhead. They do a Sunday carvery that is very reasonable at £14. Everything was fresh and tasty. The service was good too. To sum it all up we really did have a fantastic time away.we certainly left feeling more chilled and relaxed than we had arrived. There was just nothing not to like. Thank you Gwyneth !!

Gwyneth is a lovely lady, nothing too much trouble, and even offered us an extra night free of charge, as housekeeping were not coming until the following day! Three adorable little donkeys were in the nearby field, lovely to see them each morning, we took them treats of carrots and apples. ) Heating is mainly supplied by a small log-burner which when lit provided more than enough heat for us both and this was in January with 50 MPH winds outside!! (We can assure everyone that the hut is well anchored!) It was a perfect base for my wife and I to go walking, and when weather was bad, to sit in, read, write, edit photo's and enjoy the peacefull views. Apart from weather conditions out to sea, the ocean is visible from every window along with livestock, open fields, mountains - the only visible habitation seemed miles away! you really are alone here. However, our host was very approachable, easily found or contacted and nothing we asked for was too much trouble. We hesitate to recommend this property only because it would mean less available dates for us - but seriously, if you want to escape into a beautiful landscape where the main noises are the weather, an occaisional bleat of sheep and the calling of birds this is the place. A perfect cosy retreat for one or two people and an inspirational haven if you're of the creative persuasion.

WiFi was brilliant, great not to have a TV but the only problem we did have was the water pressure, once we read previous reviews we decided to buy 2 buckets and a big sponge so we filled them up every day so we could have a wash down after our adventures in the sea, this was not a problem to us as we are very adaptable and it was fun, we had to boil the kettle to get hot water but as long was we filled up every day this was not a problem either. • "The hut was well made and solid and cosy in the very windy weather."

The views were stunning. However the water facilities were next to non existent. In the morning the two sinks either had no water or a trickle and neither had hot water at all. The shower was similar but even when water flowed it just kept quickly alternating between very cold and scalding hot so we were unable to shower at all. We called round to the house but no one was in so we rang later that day while we were out. The host was apologetic and offered us to have a shower in her house if need be which was appreciated. She also explained this was a recurring problem as the water facilities are simply not up to the job particularly when the cows are thirsty and she is doing a big laundry wash! There are plans to rectify this by putting in a larger tank at some point. We returned quite late that evening, about 10pm, so could not take advantage of the offer of a shower at the house. In the morning the water situation was exactly the same and we left again without showering. Fortunately the next similar type of place we stayed at - at about two thirds of the price BTW - had a very good shower room that worked. We are seasoned campers/glampers and are used to roughing it sometimes but feel that we paid a top price for the hut. This was not in any way justified by the inadequacy of the facilities. Feeling very dissatisfied, we think we deserve some money refunded.

Surrounded by cows and sheep on a farm. Ms. Campbell was a wonderful host and even let us visit the few lambs that were being bottle fed and sent us back to the Shepard’s hut with fresh eggs for breakfast.

About the location

HOLYHEAD

Trearddur Bay 3 miles.

The bustling town of Holyhead rests on the North West coast of the Isle of Anglesey, the largest town on the island and perhaps known best for being the main ferry port to Ireland. Steeped in history, the town boasts the remains of Roman town walls and forts, medieval burial chambers and stone village foundations. Explore the Breakwater Country Park, a former quarry, which offers designated walks through the grounds. The park is full of interesting wildlife, most notably the seals who visit the Holyhead coast, and outlines the amazing construction of the world's longest breakwater, some 1.8 miles, which today protects the harbour. Visit the colourful marina with its yachts and tall ships, or the town's maritime museum, with its tales of 100 shipwrecks in the vicinity. Day trips to Ireland can be enjoyed easily from here, with Dublin just 90 minutes away on the fast ferry. With spectacular cliff top walks over Holyhead Mountain, golden sandy beaches at the award winning Trearddur Bay and the Snowdonia National Park just a 20 minute drive away, this is a superb holiday location, at any time of the year.
