Perfectly located for getting to: a wide range of both ‘big’ and ‘little’ railways and the Oakley Arms for delicious suppers.

Everything you need. The garden could do with some love. We were hoping that the fire pit was there as there is one showing in the photo. But we couldn't find one. The road was very busy and noisy.

Everything we needed supplied. Owner couldn't do enough to make sure we had all we needed and to make us feel welcome. Cottage next to a busy road but traffic noise not a problem, and it's ideally placed for touring North Wales. We would certainly visit again.

This property is 6ft from the busy A487. Lots of traffic noise.

  • "Positives - spacious, quirky, loads of crockery, surprisingly quiet, lovely to have a wood burner, the main bedroom was nice & warm, big bathroom which heated up nicely once the heater was on, and a very unusual tiered garden."

Negatives - the cottage is heated by a mixture of night storage and electric heaters. The latter weren’t on, and one of the night storage heaters doesn’t work at all (upstairs hallway) so it was a freezing arrival and took half a day to warm up. Overall the cottage felt like it needed a seriously deep clean. There was sand / grit on the double bed and throw at the end of the bed which was really miserable to encounter. Apart from the lounge which was lovely, it all felt pretty dated and like it needed some proper care / redecoration. The area just outside the front door was really messy too. Such a shame as I’m sure it’s been lovely, and could be again, but I think the cold / dirty start really impacted the stay.

  • "This place is full of character with wood burners and provisions for using them in both lounge and kitchen."

This was a delightful place to stay. The facilities provided were excellent, kitchen very well kitted out, lounge very much a home from home, bedrooms spacious and a huge bathroom with more towels than we could ever use. The WIFI was much appreciated. Upon arrival we thought noise from the busy road may be a issue but once inside this turned out not to be the case and neither watching TV or sleeping were a problem. The location was ideal for us with good walking for our little dog very close by, Porthmadog 10 minutes drive down the road for supermarket shops and plenty of places for a day out close by. Despite more than our fair share of rain we did get one sunny evening to enjoy a glass of wine and the view from up the garden. Sadly our stay was cut short by a couple of days as the lounge end up 20mm deep in water after torrential over night rain. The response of both Sykes and the owner to the unfortunate event was swift and appreciated. We have been to this area of North Wales for the last 6 years and will be returning again, hopefully to Mill Cottage.

  • "Lovely location with walks from the doorstep."

The cottage was lovely for our holiday and the road was at least quiet during the night-time. The cottage was well equipped and warm (great after a damp walk) and we certainly enjoyed seeing the lesser horseshoe bats in the evenings. OK we found the mattress on the bed a little soft but that is a personal thing. There were plenty of places to visit within a short distance and catching the Ffestiniog railway from Plas halt proved successful. We would certainly like to return as we had a lovely stay.

  • "The cottage is very well situated."

Within easy reach of a lot of what North Wales has to offer. It is a very old building with lots of quirky details. The neighbours were really nice and wanted to pass the time of day. Parking was easy, being able to tuck the car out of the way against the building. The busy main road it is situated on, was a bit intrusive, but most of the traffic disappeared about 7pm and the cottage became a quiet haven. As we were out all day, this didn't really affect us. The weather has been amazing and so enhanced our stay at Mill Cottage.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, glad you enjoyed your time in Wales. Property Owner

  • "One of the most dog friendly cottages you will ever stay in, this is a sympathetic restoration of an important historic mill on the edge of the Tan y Bwlch estate."

The terraced gardens are secluded, well maintained, lovely and typical of the area with camellias starting to bloom in January, backing onto fields and woods. There is ample off road parking to the front of the cottage and we found it easy to get in and out although this road is the busy main road into Porthmadog. We weren't disturbed in the least by traffic noise, the stone walls of the cottage are very thick! We found the cottage warm and cosy with the log burner in action- wood was provided, and it lasted us all week. The night storage heaters kicked in effectively during the night so that the cottage was warm in the mornings. The bathroom is clearly newly refurbished and well equipped with a rain shower as well as a bath. The kitchen has everything you could want to make full meals including a microwave and a Nespresso machine with pods included. In fact, we have rarely experienced such generosity from a host who left us wine, condiments in the cupboard, Yorkshire teabags and treats for the dog. A soft dog bed next to the fire made our greyhound very happy. We were very comfortable in the large bedroom with its double iron bedstead and extensive wardrobes, and our daughter was similarly happy with her single bed in the smaller bedroom. Mill Cottage is a short walk away from the Oakeley Arms where the food is good and the bar is dog friendly, you can get straight into walks through deep woodland on the estate and catch a ride behind a steam engine on the narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway from Tan y Bwlch station up in the woods. Mill Cottage is clearly the owner's pride and joy and we would love to stay there again.

Thank you so much for a beautiful feedback, This makes it worthwhile. You are more than welcome to return. Property Owner

The location for touring North Wales is excellent. Upstairs in the cottage was perfect but the only thing to let it down on the ground floor was the large rug in the dinning room which was very dirty and either needed replacing or a good clean. I appreciate it is in a position where it gets well used but nevertheless it should be clean. The garden is lovely but the side nearest the road could be fenced better. We never felt safe to let our dog off the lead but apart those two things Mill cottage is perfect.

  • "We loved the cottage and being close to the Oakley Arms Hotel who also do fantastic Sunday carvery - make sure you book in advance."

The surrounding area was perfect and stunning with plenty of places to visit without too long a drive. We felt that the cottage could have been cleaner eg there was coal dust on the banister and we felt the need to use the Henry on our first full day. The oven could also have been cleaner. The mattress probably needs replacing as the boings of the springs could be heard when settling on the bed. There was a regular disturbing almost spooky banging throughout the nights which interrupted our sleep. It sounded like a door swinging in the wind and my husband checked round the cottage in the daylight but couldn’t find the cause. Not for the faint hearted! That said we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly look to book again

Have ordered mattresses arriving end of February, im shocked about the cleaning side, i will get a new cleaner in, thank you for feedback, this is new to us so i will be taking in your feedback asap. Property Owner
