  • "Very much enjoyed our stay at Garreg Haul."

Cottage in a beautiful position near the coastal path and good for people who enjoy walking. We found the cottage very comfortable for the two of us. Enjoyed waking up to view of sea and coast from bedroom window. Owners responed promptly to our communications and willing to address some of the minor problems we found. It is not very close to pubs or shops but we really enjoyed the peace and silence. People visiting might like to be aware that very close to another property which did overlook gardens on one side of Carreg Haul but did have secluded garden on the other side. Kitchen worked well, very good shower and bed comfortable. June and Paul

Thanks for your feedback, as you know, you notified Sykes about a smell on the Monday after you arrived and the cleaner came the same day and you both agreed the smell appeared to have disappeared . We are surrounded by farmland which could have been the cause . The cleaner asked if there were any other issues , which you said there weren’t . If there had been a problem with damp sheets or spiders this could have been rectified when she came if you had mentioned it . Property Owner

A welcome hamper is a lovely touch . Nice to have the wood burner to put on in the evenings . Plenty of sitting areas outside if you get good weather to sit out . We only managed to once but lovely views of the beach from the top patio . The only thing I would have liked was a hairdryer unless I missed it .

  • "We were a family of four, plus dog, visiting at the end of August."

Sunstone was perfect for our needs and in a stunning location, overlooking the beach and surrounding landscape. The cottage was well kitted out, clean and cosy. It is beautifully renovationed and well maintained. Plenty of outdoor space for the dog, with two connected garden spaces. Didn't feel overlooked by the neighbouring holiday let and it was very peaceful. With kids under 10 walking to the nearby beaches (with all the required kit) wasn't popular. Jump in the car and you can be somewhere stunning to explore in no time. Talking of driving, some other reviews have seemed harsh. Yes you have to navigate a single track road (not a long one and it has some passing points) before you meet a track leading to the cottage (National Trust land, which they do their best to maintain). Just remember it's a holiday. Relax, drive slow and enjoy the scenery :-) We loved our stay and will be back!

  • "Lovely cottage."

Had a great week. Owner happened to be there on arrival and showed us around. Twin bedroom very small and really only suitable for kids-no storage in twin room either but clothes rack outside. My 23 yr old son struggled in the room. Double room was lovely with plenty of room and storage. Heating easy to use and kept cottage nice and warm. Bathroom small and….it’s only personal…but I hate baths with tap in the centre and not at the end. Difficult to get in and out of and as bath was narrow to suit the room it was a bit of a pain. Old fashioned latches on internal doors look lovely and suit the old cottage style but are very noisy in the middle of the night if you need a pee. So this Meant I’d one of us got up for a wee-we all did…as the dog thought we were being burgled hahahah. Views around were fab. But area is very windy being right on the end of the peninsula. Would recommended a new 4 slice toaster so everyone can breakfast together and a supply of egg cups and a toast rack- a sweeping brush would also come in handy. Overall a lovely cottage and the wood burner would be fab in the colder months of the year. The only downside was inability to leave dog off lead for a good run. Sheep and horses roam the area right outside the cottage so lead walks only until to find your way down into ‘Hells Mouth’. Long pebbled wind swept beach there. But quite a challenge getting down there with a springer spaniel pulling you all the way on the end of a lead. Thanks for a lovely week.

Thank you for feedback and so pleased you had a great week and I will definitely get some more egg cups and a larger toaster . Just to note that the single beds in the twin room are standard size singles and both are ottoman beds so both have storage underneath and are super light to lift which helps with storage , alongside the small bedside drawer unit, the hanging rail outside the room and the extra storage in the main bedroom. Also the bath is a standard size, not narrow to fit . So this will not differ unless you are used to an extra large bath . There is usually a sweeping brush , so I’m not sure what’s happened to that but I will replace! Thanks again, Emma Property Owner

  • "Beautiful spot, great views, perfect for star-gazing on a clear night and great spot for walkers."

Accuracy of listing - Information says "less than 5 minute drive to Abersoch". We would dispute this and so did Google route planner. Cleanliness - We were disappointed to find vast amounts of cobwebs which looked as though they had been there for some time. Our main disappointment was the challenging access to the property. The single lane road is tricky (especially when we had to reverse on meeting an oncoming vehicle) but to be expected in a rural setting. What was not expected was the unpaved, potholed road which finally leads to the cottage. This has been exceedingly unpleasant to navigate and was made even worse by rain. The information should warn about this as it spoilt our holiday facing this each time we wanted to go out. We cut our losses and went home early.

Thank you for the feedback , we have now amended the property description to say it’s a 7 minute drive to abersoch and not 5 minutes. I appreciate if you are uncomfortable reversing down a single track lane , this is not ideal property however thanks to your feedback we have now included this in our property description now , although I have noted there are 3 clear passing points and the single track lane takes approximately 2 minutes from start to finish . In terms of the potholes on the National Trust owned and managed track , thank you for letting us know and for the reassurance of our future guests , please know this has now been resolved. We always try to resolve any problems as soon as they are highlighted . There are no potholes on our property. I would dispute the fact that there was vast amounts of cobwebs as both the cleaner and I take it in turns to ensure the property is up to standard . Thank you for returning our picnic hamper that you took home with you. Property Owner

  • "Sunstone is a pretty, characterful cottage located on a remote National Trust headland, ideal for dog walking or just enjoying the wild moorland overlooking Hells Mouth."

The cottage is recently renovated, and an ideal retreat for two adults, plus two children in the very small second bedroom. Its compact, so missing space for washing machine or drier, extra fridge freezer is in the garden shed, its well heated and has a lovely log burner. Of important note is the new 3 bed chalet 'Beach Shack' located just yards away behind Sunstone, overlooking its west garden and terrace. you have to park on the shared driveway of the chalet and if its occupied, its a major loss of privacy as they overlook you from their raised terrace and you have to walk through their space to get to your car. possible issues if you return late evening and they're in bed! Fortunately for us, the chalet wasn't occupied during our stay, if it had been, wed have felt a bit uncomfortable always imposing on their space to come and go. Also to be noted is the final road up to the dirt track is strictly a single lane, be prepared to reverse a long way if meeting any vehicles! Also the final track to Sunstone, it has many pot holes, we were glad to be in a 4 x4 car! To summarise, a pretty welcoming cottage, but spoilt its loss of privacy of the chalet, and access issues, but ideal for two families who want to holiday together if they rent both properties.

Thank you for your feedback, it is always useful. For the benefit of future guests, I think it is important to clarify a few things: 1. The cottage is not advertised as having a washing machine or dryer but if you need this facility, there is a laundrette station next to the Spar shop just before you reach Abersoch village ( less than a 5 min drive). 2. There is a fridge, with freezer box inside the cottage kitchen. The extra large fridge freezer in the shed is for extra storage. 3.The deck on chalet does overlook the west garden and terrace but this is not the main garden, and there is a completely private east garden which is perfectly sheltered, sunny and is in fact the main cottage garden. 4.There is a shared entrance for the properties, but this should not cause problems as there are separate spaces for the cottage and chalet guests, and there is in fact enough parking for 6 cars. There should be no need for anyone to be blocked in. 5. The path that leads from behind the chalet, where in fact the cottage parking is allocated, runs through the chalet's secondary open space, which is not deemed a usable garden. The chalet guests main garden is at the furthest point from the main cottage garden, so there should be no real need for people to feel there is an intrusion on their space, peace and quiet or privacy. 6. There should be no issues with noise, other than those that you find with any property with a neighbour. 7. The final road after leaving Abersoch village and turning off the main approach road, is a single track lane, like many in the countryside, but there are 3 passing spaces and this is only a 2/3 min drive down the lane. If you don't like to reverse, this could be a deal breaker. 8. The dirt track is across the National Trust headland and is part of the landscape. I do not have a 4x 4 but a VW beetle which is low to the ground and friends with a low BMW have found it easy to navigate the bumps as long as you go slowly. We try to infill the bumps/ pot holes once per year but this is in fact the National Trusts land and responsibility. 9. It is always a good idea to drive slow on the headland as there are often sheep, sometimes wild horses, and walkers. 10. The cottage and the lodge are uniquely positioned overlooking the sea, which only 1 other property on this part of the headland can claim. It stands in a designated AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and next to a SSSI ( Site of Specific Scientific Interest). We are fortunate to have views to 2 beaches and views across to Snowdonia on a clear day. If the presence of another property is deemed a loss of privacy, given there are no windows on the gable end of the cottage which could be overlooked by the chalet, then I am sad that our cottage has not met with your expectations. I hope future guests are not overly concerned , but please feel free to contact me via Sykes with any questions. With heart, Emma Property Owner

Out of the hustle and bustle of Abersoch (but within a few mins drive) on national trust headland where wild ponies roam, the views over hells mouth beach are simply breath taking. If you are looking for peace and quiet, believe me you could hear a pin drop. Dark clear skies at night we’re a delight! The cottage is well equipped and lovely and cosy inside. The layout is great and the garden secure if you have dogs. The kitchen is high spec and cooking was easy and dish washing even easier! Has a dishwasher! Yay! Not sure what comments in an earlier review were about but I can assure anyone else that the bed sheets were wonderful and pillows great. I’m six foot and the duvets on single bed covered me fine. There was plenty of wood for fire on arrival. Salt and pepper was where I’d expect to find it…in the salt and pepper mills. And on the double bed kept falling off. Single bed quilts too small for adults. No extra bed linen available in the cottage should they be required. No store cupboard necessities such as salt, pepper, oil available for guests arriving at night time. Only 4 logs, no newspaper and small amount of kindling on arrival not enough for first night fire on arrival. Pillows too soft. When windy outside the wardrobe creaked a lot. The owner responded immediately when advised of problem with boiler pressure and the issue was resolved. Having said all above we loved our stay, cottage and location and would recommend it to friends.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm happy you loved your stay . The bed linen is all clean and freshly laundered, but it could have been that the cleaner supplied linen that did not belong to the cottage and maybe this is why it was slippery. The single duvets in the twin room are John Lewis Anti Allergy adults 10.5 tog duvets so I am not sure why these were not big enough. There are salt and pepper mills, as well as a welcome hamper, but no other condiments are left as standard. I will make sure the cleaner leaves more logs, kindling and paper for the fire on the first night. Property Owner

About the location

ABERSOCH

Pwllheli 6 miles.

The attractive harbour village of Abersoch is situated on the Llyn Peninsula in a region of Wales renowned for its outstanding scenery and varied walking. The village, situated between two glorious bays, is one of the most popular sailing venues in North Wales and important sailing regattas are held there throughout the summer months. Numerous shops cater for the tourist as well as pubs, restaurants and cafes. There are also opportunities for golfers as there is a course just outside the village and horse riding facilities are also available nearby. Watersports enthusiasts are also well catered for, particularly windsurfing, water skiing and dinghy sailing, not to mention renowned surfing at Port Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth). The long, sandy Abersoch Main Beach is probably the most popular beach in the area. There is a wonderful selection of beaches in the surrounding area of the Llyn Peninsula, including the beautiful and often quiet Porth Ceriad, with it's high cliffs, and sandy Porth Oer ("Whistling Sands"). Most of the coastline is owned by the National Trust and there are many remote bays, sandy beaches and cliffs, as well as wildlife havens like Bardsey Island to explore.
