"This was our second stay at Tryfan Cottage, as we so enjoyed our first stay eight years ago."
The owner was very welcoming and the cottage had everything we needed to make it feel like home away from home. If you enjoy the rural life, this place is for you. If you want peace and quiet, this place is for you. If life allows, we will be back in a few years.

"A very comfortable and well equipped cottage."
An excellent location with walks from the door in a relaxing and beautiful environment. Peaceful and pleasurable driving to explore the Lleyn Peninsular, Anglesey and Snowdonia all within a short distance.

"Very comfortable and well equipped."
Excellent position for exploring the area. Owner friendly and approachable. Loved all the tourist leaflets - very useful but there are many duplicates and some are rather old. Could perhaps do with a sort out.

"Beautiful setting with a view into the distance over fields, trees and wild flowers."
We liked the remoteness, but it is a 1.5 mile drive along a single track road. Clean, cosy and well enough equipped. Chairs and bed comfortable. Lovely weather for first part of the week, but then sadly the mist and rain came in. Good short gentle walks available from the property and with a little more effort Moel Tryfan and Moel Smytho are within walking distance.

"We had a fantastic stay at Tryfan Cottage."
The owner (Louise) was extremely helpful and did everything possible to make sure we were happy. The cottage itself is very well looked after and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location is excellent, with plenty to explore within driving distance as well as lots of walks in the immediate area. The Welsh Highland Railway has a stop at the bottom of the drive, but be warned that it is very expensive so make sure your phone the booking office to check prices before you board the train.

"This property was perfect for us as a family of 4 with a 6 and 2 year old."
It is in the middle of nowhere safe and secure, surrounded by stunning scenery but still within and easy car ride of Anglesey, Caernarfon, Llanberis and other places of interest in the area. The space has really been maximised well and was more than adequate for us for the week. The bedrooms are spacious even with the sloping ceilings, the stair gate was in place as we requested, the bathroom space has been used so efficiently and it was great to have a separate bath and shower with young kids, kitchen has every pot, pan and utensil you’d have at home with is a rarity in a holiday cottage, living room is nice and comfortable and the utility space at the back with the washer drier was a god send for us for the kids beach wear! Everywhere was clean and comfortable and even with the wet Welsh weather we were blessed with at times, the cottage was warm and comfortable. The welcome pack provided is detailed and appreciated- it’s lovely to get a bit of history of the cottage and the local area. Louise, the owner, is just next door and came to check in with us on our first day to make sure everything was ok, which we really appreciated and when we had a couple of questions during the week she responded quickly to texts - again much appreciated! Other than that we only saw her down in the horses field from the window; I read in an earlier review that the owner being next door gave a lack of privacy, I have to say we did not feel that at all, she was completely unobtrusive. She did come to say bye as we were leaving and check everything had been ok, again friendly and appreciated- thank you Louise! My girls loved that they could see the sea from their bedroom window and that they could see the horses and goats whilst sitting eating their breakfast - the goats in particular provided them with a few laughs! Highly recommended and we can’t wait to come back :)

"One of the best places on earth."
A lovely little cottage in a beautiful environment.

"We had a wonderful stay in this lovely well equipped cottage."
It was delightfully warm and cosy when we arrived and the Welsh cakes and flowers were a much appreciated extra touch. The cottage is in a very peaceful location with fabulous views but close to good pubs and within easy reach of the mountains and beaches. There are lovely walks from the property and we loved seeing the steam train go by. Thank you to Louise for sharing this place with us, we hope to be back soon!

"A very tired house, furniture downstairs really needs changing."
Walking into a house that smells musky, the sort of smell my granny's house smelt like in fact isn't something that is nice being on holiday, putting up with it in my grans house is one thing, a holiday home completely different. The cottage was filthy, grease on the kitchen walls and utensils isn't nice and I needed to wash cutlery before feeling that it was safe to use. The grill didn't work and therefore I couldn't cook any bacon but thinking back I wouldn't have wanted to, the roasting tray with the too small grill rack in it was very greasy, the oven smelt of a deep fryer. There were cobwebs all over the place and it was pretty dusty. The duvet sheets smelt musky also. Very disappointed with this cottage, if we hadn't of managed to walk up snowdon with our 3 year old we would have returned home earlier than planned but we did manage to walk up the mountain and therefore too tired to drive the 4 hours back home. We stayed with a 3 year old and it wasn't nice to be holidaying in such filth as a young family. Not sure why it is rated 4, it is far from it although has great potential. The owners aren't just nearby they are on the doorstep, pictures to this cottage needs to include where the owners house is because it is deceiving if never stayed before, the description needs to change to the neighbours are next door instead of nearby, nearby is an understatement. Although they weren't looking over it felt like they were and the privacy was almost gone, had we of known how close they were we would never of stayed. We feel really disappointed as sykes is a reputable company and we expected much better from them, it has damaged our confidence and will never book again through sykes, it has almost put us off staying in cottages full stop.
Dear Guest I am sorry to hear you had such a very disappointing stay. Regarding the furnishings and fittings, these are gradually replaced as and when needed, as my ethos is to avoid unnecessary waste going into the environment. The aim is for the cottage to feel traditional, cosy and comfortable, and I take great pride in this. The photos on the website were taken earlier this year, so I am not sure why you booked if the property is not to your taste? I cannot account for the ‘musky’ smell you refer to in the cottage generally or in the freshly laundered bedlinen, which smells of fabric conditioner. I have had several people in the cottage since then who have not noticed any damp smell (assuming that is what you mean by 'musky'), even when I've asked them. At each changeover high and low dusting and hoovering are done, and the hard floors are steam cleaned. In the kitchen, the hob, oven and roasting tray are cleaned and the tiles are wiped, but washing up is not usually included. I am sorry that you found the place ‘filthy’ but accept this is your subjective view. It's a shame you had difficulty operating the grill, which is in full working order. The manual for the oven is included in the welcome pack, and of course, I would have been happy to help if you had asked. I will do a ‘quick start’ guide in case others have similar difficulties. The cooker was supplied with a roasting tin but no grill rack, so I will also look for a grill rack which fits the roasting tin better. We did not meet during your brief stay, as you were not available when I popped over to say hello at the start of your visit. Indeed, I did not see you at all, so it is hard to understand your feeling of a lack of privacy. For the benefit of future guests who may have similar concerns, I live in a farmhouse on site. The front door of both properties face in the same direction, as if on a street, and there is approximately 35 m (115 ft) distance between the two front doors. Property Owner

"Very cosy and well equipped cottage."
Great outdoor space and parking. Perfect for walks and bike rides straight from the door. An extremely relaxing environment in a rural location yet only 10mins from town.

"We had a lovely week at Tryfan Cottage."
So much to do in the nearby area, we could easily have stayed another week! Thank you for a fantastic time.
-
"The cottage was lovely, comfortable, well-equipped and clean, and we loved being in the countryside with only sheep for neighbours!"
I'll be honest and say the dining area in the kitchen is a bit tight - we were 3 adults and just about managed; I don't know how 4 full-sized people would fit! But we managed, and it would probably be fine for 2 adults and 2 kids. We had a lovely week and would definitely consider coming back another time.

"Enjoyed a 2 week stay at this property in rural tranquil Wales the property was of excellent standard and well placed for touring North Wales and Anglesey."
The property is clean well maintained and upstairs is larger than the pictures suggest. A charming host Louise is very friendly and helpful and we would certainly use again in the future stayed June 22.

"We found everything okay apart from the vey slow running hot water."
Also lack of tea towel and dishcloth. Would go again

"This was our 3rd visit to Tryfan Cottage and it was as good as ever."
The weather was dry but windy so that we could not do sea swimming. However the region is so beautiful and interesting that there was plenty to do of course and in fact we could not manage everything in a week. We did go round Caernarfon Castle, have a great day in lovely Llandudno, go on Ffestiniog, Welsh Highland and Llanberis Railways, view Conwy and Beaumaris castles etc, but will have to do the Lleyn Peninsular (good for swimming) next time! and Lla,

-
"Wonderful location and house."
Had a great holiday and The owner was great. This holiday had been held over from 2020 thanks to Sykes cottages and the owner. Cannot thank you both enough.
-
"In a beautiful location."
The cottage had everything needed. The beds were comfy and the cottage was very clean. The location was perfect out of the way and quiet in the middle of the countryside but only 10 minutes away from the town. We will definitely be back. We loved seeing the steam train go by and all the wildlife.

"Is a lovely location and plenty to see and do locally."
Particularly good for those that like walking and the scenery is spectacular. Beautifully peaceful and quiet.

We will definitely be returning.

"A beautiful peaceful rural location but within easy reach of the main road."
The cottage is extremely cosy, perfect for relaxation after a strenuous trip up Snowdon!! Directly near the cottage are various footpaths which are well worth exploring, offering stunning scenery for taking that perfect holiday photo.
-
"Fantastic quiet location, lovely old cottage, well furnished and comfortable."
Just what we needed. Only criticism, the outdoor seating was an afterthought on a small Sloping triangle of grass. The place could do with a little more relaxed outdoor seating and the table area being level. There is loads of space outside do this.

"Great location for peace and tranquility."
Host welcoming.
-
"Great holiday cottage, wonderful location, great walks from the doorstep."
-
"The cottage was cold and felt damp on our arrival."
Bedding was clean but smelled musty so much so that we bought a new quilt to sleep under. Bathroom had some mildew round the window and on the net curtain and blind. Furniture was tired but adequate. It has a lot of potential and is in an excellent location being very secluded and quiet. Its definitely ready for a refurbishment and in our opinion not worth the four ticks that sykes awarded it. And certainly didn't measure up to the o other sykes properties we've stayed in over the last two years. We cut our holiday short by two days because we were so disappointed in the accommodation.

"Absolute tranquility with a lovely host, Louise."
Fantastic countryside retreat. We will be back.

"The directions for this cottage on the Sykes email wasn't accurate so we did get lost!"
However the booking process and tbe cottage itself was great.

"This is a very cosy cottage and it is well worth staying here."
The location is very peaceful and there are several nice walks close by. It is also quite easy to visit a lot of attractions that North Wales has to offer and is only a short drive to Caernarfon. The fact that a steam railway is a stones throw away is a real bonus and it is always a treat to see the steam engine chugging past. If I have to nit pick a bit then the shower is a definite struggle for anyone 6ft tall or over which I am. I had to pretty much bend my knees at times to fit under and also the flow for the hot water tap in the kitchen is very slow. We had to boil the kettle and pour it into the sink in order to wash up nearly every time we undertook this as the water didn't feel hot enough so that needs improving. In conclusion though this is a cottage that we would definitely visit again and we would recommend it for sure.
