  • "We were a family group of 9 adults and 2 dogs and the house was more than big enough for all of us and was extremely comfortable and well equipped."

The outside space was ideal and safe for our dogs and for sitting out in the sunshine and watching the planes. We were however slightly concerned about the makeshift step from the kitchen to the garden and also the steps outside the back gate. Handrails would be helpful in both of these areas. The floor in the lounge was quite dusty under the sofas and the dimmer switch for the ‘snug’ was faulty which I did report during our stay. Overall though, we had a fantastic time in Rhosneigr and visited many lovely places on Anglesey. We would definitely book to stay in this lovely house again. Complimentary tea, coffee, milk and carrot cake a lovely touch.

  • "The positives are that the house is big enough for 9 people and it is near to a path that leads to the beach."

We had a few issues some of which Sykes responded to and menial holiday homes came out to rectify while we were staying. Other issues are :- the outdoor shower is not heated as advertised. There is no family bathroom or bath so please be aware of this and if the people in the bunk bed room need the toilet in the night they would need to go into one of the other bedrooms or go downstairs. The water and ice dispenser on the freezer isn't working and needs an engineer to fix it I see this was reported last year in a review and obviously not fixed. The parking space at the back is very rough ground and piled with weeds and really only suitable for a 4x4 vehicle. The privacy lock on the downstairs toilet cannot work because of wrong fittings in the door frame. The bunk bed room blind needs a safety hook putting on it. There is a washing machine and a clothes line but no washing basket and only 8 clothes pegs. There is also a clothes airer. Sykes houses seem to vary as what is left in the house on arrival, this one had toilet paper, guest soaps, some milk and Bara Brith but very little cleaning materials apart from some anti bacterial spray, no condiments or kitchen roll. We have had better houses through Sykes in other years. There were plenty of tableware and cutlery, lots of knives and 3 meat tenderisers, 2 egg slicers and other things we didn't use but no fish slice or tongs or scales which would have been useful. Some proper up to date instructions in a folder on how to get the smart tv working and some leaflets on what to do in the area would have also been nice. The DVDs left in the tv cabinet were not suitable for children on wet days. It was ok for a week but not really value for money. we had good weather which helped. we wouldn't book this house again especially as the price seems to have almost doubled for 2025. A bit disappointing really but it was only for a week so we made the best of it.

  • "A large well stocked and comfortable family home."

We were very happy with the property although it could be improved by providing for the youngest members of our party. The bedrooms were comfortable and although the bunks are adult sized the room is very small, which could be mentioned in the listing. There was plenty of street parking but the listed parking space is overgrown, untidy and not really fit for purpose. There is easy access to the dunes and beach behind the property with a short walk into town to the facilities and main beach. To improve the property the owners might consider the following: an outdoor washing line for drying towels, coat hooks under the stairs and towel hooks on the shower room doors, provision of items for babies/toddlers - a travel cot, highchair, stairgate and baby bath. We would return to this property and are happy to recommend it to others.

  • "The property is in a great position for access to the beach and to the town and lovely restaurants."

The house could do with a really good clean. Lots of dust under the sofas and beds. So many ornaments that would make it difficult for the cleaners. The kitchen is stocked really well with plates cups etc but lots of the extra bowls and cooking equipment could be removed which would leave an empty cupboard to use to store food. Some basics like salt, pepper, oil, cling film etc would be nice. The parking spaces behind the house are really fit to use and turning a car around would be extremely difficult. However we had no problems parking on the road in front of the house. These are only minor things as the house is lovely and we would definitely stay again.

  • "Lovely property with plenty of room."

Clean and tidy, beds very comfortable, although slightly let down by poor quality duvets. Outdoor seating space wonderful. Car park at the back not great but this was not a problem as we were able to park on the road outside. Not far to the beach and wonderful walks, Rhosneigr has some lovely cafes, we particularly liked cafe notos.

  • "This was our second time at Rhiwlas and we had a great time."

The rear garden has been updated since we last came and it was great for sitting out, around the fire pit with a glass of wine. The jets going over were a source of great interest to all and the view from the top bedroom is fab. Everything you would need is available in the house - we spent most of our time in the kitchen diner (again), playing games and chatting, we hardly used the sitting room or the snug at all. The bedrooms are all comfortable and the showers are great - with so many of us, having separate facilities was an absolute must. Rhosneigr is a great place for a family holiday! The only negative was the rear exit to the car parking space, it would definitely benefit from having the steps and sloping access evened out, to include a handrail for safety. The neighbour to this property was not happy with us parking on the road and asked us to move, stating that she had a disabled mum; subsequently, I did park on the road but avoided parking outside her house (I am the main driver and for medical reasons, using the parking space at the rear was difficult for me).

  • "We had a lovely week in this comfortable house which had everything we needed for our family holiday."

The beds were beautifully clean and comfortable and it was helpful that four of the five bedrooms were fitted with ensuite shower, toilet and wash basin. The kitchen is well equipped and the range cooker is in very good working order and a useful size for a large party. The beach is just a short walk from the house. There are a number of ornaments and decorative fittings which we didn't think were necessary and which we moved to a safe place till the end of the week, but of course this is a matter of personal taste. One ornament, a ceramic model of a cormorant in the top bedroom, was already broken when we arrived and we mentioned this to the agent. We had no problem parking on the road outside the house but the parking space for two cars at the rear of the property mentioned in the listing turned out to be a piece of rough ground littered with junk and, when we first arrived, blocked by an old car with a flat tyre. (This turned out to belong to a neighbour who subsequently moved it). It would be more accurate if the mention of a rear-of-property parking space was removed from the description in the listing. The fridge freezer is a sophisticated model and a good size but the ice dispenser didn't work. The middle window blind in the first floor front double bedroom didn't open. It's worth mentioning that there is no bath, so guests bringing very young children might want to bring a baby bath with them. Perhaps a rotary dryer or washing line would be helpful for drying swimming towels etc outside. Overall a great choice for a family holiday and we would definitely use it again. Thank you.

Excellent location to the beach, shops and pubs which can be walked in around 5 minutes. This property was perfect for our family, 4 of the rooms has en suites which were all showers no baths in the property. The shower curtains need replacing but apart from that they were fine. The beds were extremely comfy we was very impressed. The top room has stunning views. The front sitting room was cozy which had free sat box for the Tv or we recommend bringing a amazon fire stick. We has no 3g on our mobiles so had to rely on the wifi which was ok. The kitchen I have to say was extremely well equipped it literally has every utensil, appliance you can think off. The snug room was lovely although we felt a TV would be great in there especially when there is a few of you. Don’t expect much from the garden but I believe they are working on it. We didn’t mind at all as it was perfect for dogs as no muddy paws. All in all great property and would look to come again in the future.

  • "This was a little gem of a house and though it was chosen last minute due to our original accommodation letting us down, we were really pleasantly surprised and the house was great."

There were some cleanliness issues on arriving., the grill pan was filthy and hadn’t been cleaned after last use, there were significant amounts of crumbs on the chairs in the kitchen and a very questionable splash stain on the kitchen wall. Everywhere else was lovely though and usual and expected signs of scuffs and light wear. The yard space would really benefit from a better surface as it’s a generous space and wasn’t particularly usable. Even some artificial grass would change it entirely over the slate chips. Bin instructions need to be clearer - it was overflowing and several extra bags of glass bottles piled next to it which was a bit of a risk for my children and it took us several days to work out how the hell we got it out on collection day. We left it on the front as it was clearer and also awkward to get back round down the alley with next doors cars on their drive. One other comment is the strange lack of house bathroom - my children in the bunk room had to traipse through one of the bedrooms in the night which wasn’t ideal. All in all a lovely stay in a fabulous property which is much larger than we expected from the listing. Thank you!

It is well equipped for 10 people in terms of plates, glasses etc. It could of been cleaner, there were many cobwebs around. The outside space was secure for the dog. We had issues with putting the rubbish out, we didn't find the correct bin and clearly the residents before us hadn't either as the bin was already full. Make make clear instructions as to where the bins are located. The WiFi was very hit and miss, kept dropping out and when you have 4 teenagers with you this can be a real problem. All in all is a good house in a great location.

  • "We stayed at Rhiwlas after the house we originally booked was unavailable."

There are lots of positive points about the house, bedrooms and bathrooms have been refreshed and the beds were comfortable. There is also lots of space in the kitchen/ dining area. The living room needs a little work, it is a little shabby, the sofas are uncomfortable with springs protruding in places, the raw plug for the blind has come away so it is hanging down. The shower curtains could do to be replaced in the bathrooms that have them, the bunk beds were also extremely rickety. There was no information about bin collection and 1 wheelie bin was not enough for 9 people. I had to contact Sykes and they said to leave extra rubbish for the housekeepers. The garden is a great area for the sun, but not a place in which you would spend any time. Clip missing to secure blind cord in bunk bed room, hand rail on the landing is also loose. Rhiwlas has the potential to be a great house, just would benefit from a little more improvement.

Thank you for your feedback following your stay. We have looked at all of the points you raised and addressed the following. The blinds in the living room and bunk room have been repaired, as well as, the balustrade. We are also looking into re-upholstering the living room chairs. The bunk beds were checked and were found to be fit for purpose and safe. The bin information has been addressed and we are looking to make some improvements to the back garden. Thank you again for your comments and we hope to welcome you back to Rhiwlas in the future. Property Owner

  • "The house is in a great location for Rhosneigr and is plenty big enough for our party of 10."

The kitchen/dining area with snug was where we spent pretty much all of our evenings and is a great set up for dining with friends of an evening. A great communal area. The property looks like it's recently been renovated and having all rooms (except the bunk) as ensuite is brilliant. It was a very comfortable stay and with the beach at the back of the house, the location was just great. The house was perfect for the dog, as it was tiled throughout making it ideal. Th garden was gravelled and fully enclosed also, which makes life easy, although I would say it could be done up a little. Apart from it being handy for the dog, you wouldn't really spend any time out here - but perhaps you don't need to when in Rhosneigr as like I said, the location was absolutely stunning for beach walks, popping into the town or heading to watch the Valley planes taking off. There have been plenty of reviews regarding cleanliness, so I'd like to make a point of saying we didn't experience this at all. The house had been cleaned and that's not a comment I would leave. Perhaps they've made some changes since then - I have no issues with the cleanliness. There are a few problems with the property with the shower door in the attic being broken and there being a clear leak from one of the bathrooms onto the kitchen, which we found impossible to report to Sykes when we arrived, as getting hold of anyone or finding a contact number just impossible. This was only a concern from a point of view of ensuring it was clear these things were done before our arrival. There are also no instructions upon arrival which are always handy regarding where to put the bins, recycling, laundry, wifi code, the local area etc... There are also no 'niceties' that you usually find in property like some bin bags, dishwasher tablets, a bit of tinfoil or oil for cooking... welsh cakes on arrival. Although, it didn't impact the trip. Just be mindful to take everything with you that you would need or you'll be purchasing at the shop. On the whole I would book again for a big group

  • "We arrived at this cottage and immediately had to report to Sykes how filthy it was, the area behind the kitchen bin was disgusting, there were wine stains on the floor, there was dust and filth everywhere."

A cleaning team duly arrived and did what they could. The cottage itself was shabby, the kitchen island had (a lot of ) peeling formica - a food preparation area? One of the dogs found sweets under a sofa ( not ours). Thus dust was found behind the bed in the main bedroom. The cottage was very shabby. Plaster was peeling off in a couple of the bedrooms, below windows and at shower points. There were several places showing water damage from shower areas. The place was so cluttered with nik naks, but given that the place was not thoroughly cleaned in the first place it did not surprise us that theses were just more dust collectors. We paid a lot of money for this place, was it worth it - no!!

Thank you for your review and I am sorry you were disappointed with Rhiwlas. As a fully managed property is inspected on a regular basis and we do not agree the that the house was filthy; we are confident that the housekeepers look after the house well. It has been a very busy season with back to back bookings with only a short window between guest leaving and new guests arriving. As the low season approaches with some gaps between bookings work will be undertaken to remedy the wear and tear of the season. Property Owner

I would echo other comments about disposal of rubbish - we also tried to put the box of bottles etc that was already there when we arrived onto the pavement when we saw the neighbours doing it, but it wasn’t collected. We found the recycling point by the library and got rid of our cans and glass there. The house itself is great for an extended family with plenty of room to break out if you want to, though we spent most of our home time in the kitchen diner. We would definitely go back - location is super, parking easy and there’s plenty to do - loved rock pooling and the toddler in our party loved the jets and helicopters flying over.

The bins hadn't been emptied, I had sent an email about this and was told that they would be emptied. They weren't which meant that we had to put rubbish bags in the front garden and that looked horrible. In the house there is only 1 bin in the kitchen, there aren't even bathroom bins, that's ridiculous and quite inconvenient. The house is lovely and is a great location though, so it's a shame that little things weren't right.

  • "As always anywhere in Rhosneigr an excellent location and we had a fabulous week despite the pandemic restrictions."

Property accommodated us well. The bunk bedroom is really quite small as is the room with the pull out bed, the remainder are a good size. Some lack storage space, especially the attic room which could do with a wardrobe and definitely a chest of drawers. A few more bins around the property would help. The kitchen gives the impression that the property has only just turned from a holiday home to a holiday let. There is an assortment of random kitchen equipment, from previous decades, with many items that wouldn't be used and some essential items missing (e.g. 10 decent sized bowls and more than the bare minimum of mugs) - a trip to Ikea to get 10+ of everything + appropriate new utensils wouldn't go amiss. The back yard is somewhat soulless and could do with making into a space that people would want to use. The trip wasn't helped by the oven / cooker being broken, Menai holidays clearly tried very hard to get this sorted while we were there but only managed on the last day. Impressed with their input into ensuring our day was not disrupted. I hope that these comments can rectify a few minor things for future visitors. Thank you for a lovely week.

We were very comfortable and confident in the cleanliness of the house. Outside at the back of the property it is very basic. A large yard, covered with slate chippings,a dustbin and a table. We didn't know how we were meant to get the dustbin out of the garden for emptying. There were no instructions about bin days, so in the end we left all the recyclables on the pavement outside, when others did. I saw the bin lorry go by, but they didn't take our rubbish. I felt bad leaving all that for the cleaners to sort out. One or two other minor things, but I left a note about those. A good holiday over all.
