  • "Before we even started our holiday, we were contacted personally by the owner only a few days before asking us if we could change our holiday from Saturday to Saturday instead of Friday to Friday, which was inconvenient to us because we’d already planned something for the Saturday but we graciously accepted."

We entered the lodge and it was not as advertised online. The pictures on your website showed a sofa and an armchair, however there was a different sofa and a wooden chair, no armchair. The single bed was a rickety single put you up bed with gaffer tape on one of the slatsand there was supposed to be a sofa bed which there wasn’t. Some of the duvets were stained. There was a bicycle chain on one of the wardrobes and there were kids toys and items in a couple of drawers in the second bedroom. There were two storage cupboards for coats and shoes which were locked and unusable. There was supposed to be a bbq but we didn’t see it. There was dirt around one toilet rim, dead flies on the window sill and sweet wrappers until the lounge rug. Despite this, we had a nice holiday and we made the best of what we’d got, however when we got home after leaving the lodge as we found it, we received an email with a message through Sykes cottages stating that we have caused lots of damage to the lodge. Apparently we broke the master bed, however when you laid on the bed the metal frame lifted your feet up. It was stated that we broke the garden umbrella however we didn’t touch the umbrella which the owner can see using her camera and finally, apparently there was loose glass on the oven door which there wasn’t when I used it for only two times over the week. We are furious that we have been accused of this, we would definitely have informed the owner if we had accidentally caused any damage. Now we are trying to contact you and we have had no response. We want to see evidence of the damage, including photos that show us touching the umbrella. We know the owner looks at the footage because she told us that she went through her camera footage to find out who broke her two hot tubs this year!!

  • "Firstly the owner was very friendly and welcoming ."

It looked lovely and clean when we first went in then we notice dog hairs all over even on the bed . There was stale food in the cupboards that hadn’t been thrown out there was food on the cutlery that hadn’t been cleaned properly the freezer was full of ice so we couldn’t use it.we had to put the dish washer on and bleach every where before we settled in. It had no internet all week . We tripped all the electricity out with using too many appliances at one time ( we wasn’t told not to use everything all at once )This should be stated as you get a charge for tripping the electrics ). We definitely won’t be going back to chestnut gardens .

  • "Lovely property set at the edge of the site so tucked away and peaceful."

A little confusion due to listing of the facilities at first and not clear how many pets can stay. Pool listed as included then told there is an extra charge but had gone up to our budget so couldn't afford any more, just needs to be clearer. That aside the property was lovely and a home from home. Had everything needed for a comfortable stay and would recommend.Plenty to see and do around the area.
