"We received a lovely welcome from our host Sandra who gave us a brief history of the area and information about the local attractions."
The cottage was beautifully furnished with everything we needed for our holiday including a surprise welcome gift which was very much appreciated. The scenery surrounding the cottage was amazing. we had a really enjoyable stay and hope to return sometime in the future

"Beautiful cottage in wonderful surroundings."
Amazing holiday for two, with everything you could need. Close to all attractions. The cottage is so very cosy. Sandra the owner is such a brilliant host. Great for walkers, but also for those who just want to relax. Can’t wait until next year, because we have booked to stay again!
-
"This is a very nice cottage in a lovely location and if this was a Saturday changeover I'd definitely be back here again, but unfortunately Friday changeovers are a waste of my precious annual leave."
-

"Friendly and helpful owners, quiet and lovely little cottage perfect for a quiet break."
-
"Beautiful spacious homely and high spec base for a couple looking for a restful break in Tanygrisiau."
Added touches of an airer and starter items greatly appreciated. Cosy and very comfortable. Close by to Llechwedd for Zip World activities, and Blaenau Ffestiniog for essentials. Some lovely takeaways and restaurants within 30 mins drive. Highly recommended and we will be looking to stay again.

"Bryn Alun was exactly what we were hoping for when we booked it."
Clean and comfortable. Walks from the door. Equipped with everything you need for a getaway walking break. Washing machine came in very handy as some of the walking involved boggy ground! We do suggest taking some food basics with you as nearest shop is in Blaenau Ffestiniog, about a mile and a half away (Coop and very small Morrisons). Owner friendly and helpful. All in all an enjoyable week and we intend staying here again

We'll equipped, clean, comfortable and quiet. The owners are available and easy to talk to! Many power sockets have been provided....a first for us staying away from home.

"Bryn Alun is a very clean and freshly refurbished holiday cottage, offering good access to the nearby Moelyn hills."
We had asked for a little tolerance on a personal issue as there had been a change of plan, this was originally granted. However, soon after we felt we were being spied upon and our privacy intruded after complaints were made, not to us, but instead to the agent. The owner failed to make contact with us, despite numerous opportunities, and we eventually came to realise, that he lived in the house overlooking Bryn Alun and other family members lived directly over the road. We felt we were in a "goldfish bowl". I asked him why he hadn't come to us if there was an issue, and his reply was "that's what I pay the agent for" . Being a host of a holiday cottage in The Lake District myself, this is not what I would call good hospitality.
We received a text on the first day asking if their son could come and see them, which I granted permission for him to visit and use the parking space but wouldn't be allowed to stay overnight, to which she replied that's fine, he can easily sleep in his van. It became apparent after the first two nights that the son was sleeping in the cottage that's when I contacted Sykes who contacted the guest on our behalf and sorted it out. That's when the son moved his van to a more level position so that he could sleep in it. As to asking for tolerance on a personal issue she only mentioned that there's been a personal issue when my husband was returning the recycling bins 5 days into the 7 day stay. As to the point, she says she was being watched, we live in a small village with a good community and l have a busy household to care for, so l can honestly say that wasn't the case. We try and make contact after a few days to check that all Is well and we are at hand if there is a problem. Thanks, owner. Property Owner

"This is a beautiful cottage and very well equipped."
Newly refurbished to a very high standard. The hosts John and Sandra are amazing and friendly- nothing is too much trouble. We enjoyed lots of lovely walks from the front door and easy access to both Betys y Coed and Beddgelert, though we preferred the quiet of Tanygrisau! Definitely hope to return.

"Very happy with everything, very much enjoyed discovering the local surroundings."
Much needed peaceful break.
-
"So much to explore in North Wales and this is a fantastic property to do it from."
Fantastic location, house really clean and tidy with big spacious rooms. Nice social kitchen/diner/lounge if visiting with friends or family. So much to do just on the doorstep and even more with just a short drive, really impressed with the location. Hosts were lovely and really welcoming, helping us out when needed, going above and beyond. The locals were also lovely and very welcoming. All in, a great holiday, great location and great property.
-
"Excellent location, so much to do see and explore in this area, very clean cottage, Mr & Mrs Jones were very friendly and told me not to hesitate to ask them for anything."
A very relaxing break from the norm. I wouldn’t hesitate to return here
-
"Great place, clean, spacious."
Good location for walking. When driving there using the GPS, to avoid the really steep single lane road up to where the house is (which passes under a railway arch) that feels like it is going to the wrong place, it is easier to take the left turn towards the power station before entering Tanygrisiau and following that road round. Also beware that the 2 seater sofa's are quite small and are only really comfortable for one person.
-
"Beautiful scenery."
Incredible views. Bit of noise from the street as people pass by but nothing unacceptable. Cottage was lovely and warm especially with the log burner. Bring your own logs as they're not cheap & 1 bag is gone in 1 night. Cottage has everything you need. The owner Sandra is lovely and provided Welsh cakes and milk for us on arrival. The area is outstandingly incredible. Fabulous walks on your doorstep.

"Couldn,t fault the cottage only small problem was bathroom could do with a better light to shave by"
-
"Lovely cottage settled up near the slate tracks."
Everything you need for your stay is provided. Clean and welcoming. The Welsh cakes our host left for us were delicious. Lots to do close by. Llechwedd Zipworld is 5 minutes away and has lots of activities. We walked the hills nearby and drove to Snowdon to climb it too. We also visited Porthmadog and Betws-y-coed.
-
"Bryn Alun is a lovely holiday cottage in a great little welsh slate village."
We had great time, with lots of lovely and interesting walks straight from the cottage door. It is a great place to stay and within easy reach of lots of the little railways in the area. There is a cafe near the lakeside about 5 mins walk away that serves amazing breakfasts and lunches, it is dog friendly and very popular. The area is stunning, the people are friendly and we would love to go back someday.
-
"You stay in the front half of the cottage which has been split ,with access to a garden at the back."
Cottage is extremely clean and well maintained. Wifi is fast,a few books and dvds there which we didnt use but handy for a rainy day. Situated at the bottom of Stwlan dam and the slate quarry, nice walks. Shops and pubs are in Blaennau Ffestiniog which is either a half hour walk or 5 minute drive, also a cafe down the road, about 5 to 10 min walk.

"Lovely house and location!"
! House was presented very cleanly with Welsh cakes and flours on arrival. The owners John and Sandra were brilliant, very friendly and helpful. We would not hesitate to use this cottage again!! Brilliant.
-
"Bryn Alun is a cosy cottage really well kept clean and tidy Mrs Sandra Jones, she even proved milk and welsh cakes which was really appreciated."
Mrs Jones made contact while we were in to make sure everything was all right and if we needed anything. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay in Bryn Alun
-
"We loved this cottage which was very clean with a very friendly owner."
Great for evening walks as you s straight into the snowdonia hills and close to the slate mines and zip world
-
"I was lucky with the weather-6 sunny all days."
The cottage is in a quiet location, right on the edge of the mountains. Surrounded by a stunning silence, apart from cascading waterfalls. Walk straight up and you find heaven on earth- a large lake, surrounded by mountains- a magical place. The whole area is full of footpaths and very close to the steam railway. The host was most generous with items of welcome and of goodbye. I 100% hope that I can return before age stops me walking any more. Did 14.7 k on last day- not bad for 72 year old. Close to Snowdon. Steam trip to top (requires early booking) , unforgettable, but pricey. Forget the cost you have to do it- and the drive through the Llanberis Pass: is scary but utterly breathtaking.

"The photographs of the outside of the property are very misleading, it makes it look remote which it most definitely is not."
The property is surrounded by other properties in all directions, the road outside is noisy and close to the front of the building. Having said that the neighbours are very friendly and helpful. The shower room/toilet which is downstairs is very cold even with the radiator on fully. The property is advertised with WiFi which it does not appear to have as we were unable to find any signal, however we did not contact the owners to pursue this. In all honesty some of these issues may have been down to the time of year and the weather at the time of our stay.
Thank you for your feedback. There is no mention in the advertisement of the property being in a remote area. The property is situated in a small village outside of Blaenau Ffestiniog and is one of the quietest local places. In relation to the bathroom being cold; there is a towel heater and a wall mounted electric fan heater which warms the room in an efficient and fast manner. There is fully functioning BT Wi- Fi at the property. It simply requires a Wi-Fi password which you can be found in the welcome pack. Property Owner

"Very enjoyable, good clean cottage and friendly owner"
-
"Fantastic cottage, lovely owners who were on hand when needed but left us to enjoy the cottage the rest if the time."
The location is perfect for exploring th area, leaving the car behind. Great walks straight from the door and close enough to amenity when needed. Ideal place for peiple who want to get outside enjoy the amazing views. We would definitely return for another visit.
-
"Cottage as listed."
Very narrow hill to climb or drive up to get to the cottage . Wouldn't suit a nervous driver but there is a better road around the back of village. Cottage very clean, very nice when you first walk in. Easy parking outside of cottage. Great area for walking and exploring. The Moelwyn Mountains behind the cottage are spectacular, lots of sheep and rabbits around.
-
"The directions were accurate and the whole week went well."
We were looked after, the cottage was ideally placed for our walking and exploring. The owners were available to us but not interfering at all. The weather was great and the locals friendly and helpful.
-
"Myself and my two children had a wonderful stay in Bryn Alun."
Perfectly located for attractions such as Zip World and the Ffestiniog railway and exploring the stunning Wesh mountains! The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the owner Sandra so friendly and helpful. We will most definitely be back. I didn't want to come home!
-
"We very much enjoyed our stay at Bryn Alun."
It is very nicely finished inside and very comfortable. It had everything we needed it to have. There is an enclosed garden which our small dog very much enjoyed too. Beautiful location where you feel like you are almost in the middle of nowhere, but you are only 5 minutes drive from all the local facilities in Blaenau Ffestiniog.
-

The property
This delightful semi-detached cottage is situated in the pretty village of Tanygrisiau and enjoys a quiet position in a small area known locally as Cwmorthin, which is situated high above the village itself, just over a mile from the historic mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog.
The cottage provides an ideal base for exploring this beautiful area of North Wales and will suit a couple perfectly.
Offering well-appointed, and for a cottage, spacious holiday accommodation, this charming holiday home is welcoming and styled with comfort in mind with homely touches and modern day comforts.
The open plan living area is light and airy with good lighting and boasts a lovely wood burning stove, adding some real appeal, perfect for those cosier evenings, when after a day on the mountains, all you want to do is relax and snuggle up watching your favourite film with the flames dancing and logs crackling.
The kitchen area is well-equipped and modern with a comfy dining area, and a spacious double bedroom and shower room on the first floor complete this delightful cottage.
With a backdrop of the Moelwyn Mountains is an enclosed raised garden area with seating.
There are some wonderful walks from the cottage, one in particular, where you can amble through the abandoned slate mines of the Rhosydd Quarry is stunning, and the scenery is nothing short of breathtaking.
The famous Ffestiniog narrow gauge steam railway, Zipworld Titan and Caverns, the longest 4 man zip in Europe, and Bounce Below, an underground trampoline, and the magnificent slate caverns at Llechwedd, are all close by.
There really is something for everyone within this superb area of North Wales.
About the location
TANYGRISIAU
Blaenau Ffestiniog 1.1 miles; Porthmadog 8 miles; Betws-y-Coed 15 miles; Beddgelert 16 miles.
Tanygrisiau, meaning "below the steps", refers to the stepped cliffs above this traditional Welsh village. The Moelwyn mountains protect the village from much of the northerly gales in the winter, and give it a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering its location high in Snowdon. The village stands amongst dramatic scenery, and Tanygrisiau is a good starting point for many walks, especially if your intention is to climb Moelwyn itself. Tanygrisiau was famous for its slate mining, producing a high quality black slate that was used across the world. Tanygrisiau railway station is on the famous Ffestiniog Railway, a narrow gauge railway built to carry slate from the mines down to the sea at Porthmadog; today it is a renowned tourist attraction providing stunning views on its trip to the coast. Only 1.1 miles away is Blaenau Ffestiniog, once the capital of slate quarrying and in the 18th century known as the "City of Slate". The town stands in an elevated, natural bowl amidst this mountainous region and has a good variety of shops and pubs, but is best known for its tourist attractions. One of the old quarries is now the renowned Llechwedd Slate Cavern. The famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway provides wonderful trips through spectacular countryside. Enjoy superb walks and bike trails at Coed-y-Brenin, one of the best mountain bike centres in Britain, as well as good climbing at the Plas y Brenin National Mountain Centre, wonderful sandy beaches, or great fishing or golf. Visit delightful Betws-y-Coed, the Italianate Village at Portmeirion, or Bala, with its renowned white water rafting opportunities.
