Plenty of good walks and places to visit nearby, although in February not everything is open (not that we were expecting it at all) so the great outdoors in all weathers kept us well occupied.

Thank you for your feedback and comments, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at our cottage, and found the cottage well-equipped and quiet. • "The hosts are super generous with this wonderful cottage!"

It's situated perfectly for walks in the beautiful mountains, nearby convenient shops, and just a wonderful place to place to sit and be, with the wood burner and a good TV! The cottage itself was really clean, with loads of little bits to help you settle in and feel really welcome. Good recycling facilities too - and a really comfy bed. The only two tiny things re: comfort / facilities were 1) it would be great to have a timer switch on the immersion heater (located in the bedroom), just to avoid the rumble of the water heater overnight (we just switched it off at the wall overnight, and on again in the morning) and 2) it would be nice to have a little foot rest for when you're blobbing on the sofa all evening... but those really are quite insignificant compared to how brilliant everything was overall!

Thank you for your lovely comments and feedback. We are pleased you had a good stay and the cottage, particularly the bed was comfy and you had everything you needed. Just to pick up on your comments, we are looking into having a timer fitted for the immersion heater, this does make sense and we are also looking at purchasing a footstool which will compliment the rest of the style and size of the cottage. Thank you for the suggestions and hope to welcome you back in the future. All the best, Angie and Rich x Property Owner

The bed was very comfortable, really appreciated the blackout blinds in the bedroom and the wood-burning stove for cold evenings. The location was great too, very quiet street, surrounded by beautiful mountains and close to all sorts of activities. We had a really wonderful time.

  • "We booked the cottage in February unfortunately when we arrived the cottage was rather cold so the starter pack of logs and coal did not last long."

The owners kindly left us a few welcome gifts wine cake shortbread bites and crisps. The cottage was well kitted out with basic necessities milk butter tea towels kitchen roll fairy . The Leather sofas were a bit cold also and didn’t appear to have much room esp for two of us on one. Bed was comfortable although there is an Emersion heater or something similar in the cupboard that strikes up when the hot water tap is on. Good on the doorstep walks but the weather was terrible so once we got back to the cottage on an evening we put the fire on and didn’t venture out. Nothing on the doorstep in the way of pubs / shops the lakeside cafe is the only eatery that is ; they open at 9 and do a variety of food we had a breakfast there that was good. Lots of info in the file provided and leaflets of where to go, we visited the slate mine deep under which was 8 min drive away. No phone signal inside the cottage but free wifi so able to keep in contact via that. The pictures and description are what you get I would say probably better to stay once it gets warmer / lighter nights so can do a lot more . Highlight was watching the birds in the bush in the little front yard on a morning some sparrows and a robin. It was warm and cosy once the stove got going.

  • "This is a well equipped cottage in a very quiet location yet easily accessed from main roads."

It matches the previous Sykes cottage we rented in Yorkshire and obviously reflects the standard to be provided in a Sykes cottage. We don't expect it to be a "home from home" - it is a holiday cottage with all the bits and bobs you need for a comfortable stay and this it easily achieved. Cosy and comfortable, it was actually lovely to listen to the heavy rain bouncing on the Velux rooflights! A welcome pack was a nice touch as was all the other kitchen things not normally found in a holiday cottage. We had no problem with the appliances and it was a good not to have to keep feeding metered electricity. The owners should be well pleased as to how the cottage was presented and we would not hesitate in renting from both them and Sykes in the future.

Fantastically furnished and equipped, great information and spotlessly clean. The instructions to get there and get the key were fine, it was very easy. The only thing that would have improved it was possibly a better shower? The one we had was difficult to get working consistently. Also, in the future, we'll probably stay somewhere we can walk to pubs/restaurants for dinner. There wasn't much near our cottage, but some good venues were within a short drive. We will definitely look at using Sykes again. Very pleased!

Everything has been thought of and provided including doggy treats. Couldn't find many places near the cottage where we felt safe to let the dog off the lead for a short walk in the morning due to the grazing sheep and lambs. We were warned that the farmers shoot dogs in Wales if they are chasing sheep. But we found some lovely places to walk freely a short drive away. eg Harlech beach, Tan-y-Bwlch Take lots of change for the parking meters. You don't seem to be able to park for less than half a day in a lot of places. Be wary of the Private Car Park opposite Snowdons train station in Llanberis. Automatic parking charges applied by cameras which clock your car registration. Minimum fee of £5.50 even if you don't stay. Snowdonias scenery exceeded all my expectations. About the location

TANYGRISIAU

Blaenau Ffestiniog 1.1 miles; Porthmadog 8 miles; Betws-y-Coed 15 miles; Beddgelert 16 miles.

Tanygrisiau, meaning "below the steps", refers to the stepped cliffs above this traditional Welsh village. The Moelwyn mountains protect the village from much of the northerly gales in the winter, and give it a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering its location high in Snowdon. The village stands amongst dramatic scenery, and Tanygrisiau is a good starting point for many walks, especially if your intention is to climb Moelwyn itself. Tanygrisiau was famous for its slate mining, producing a high quality black slate that was used across the world. Tanygrisiau railway station is on the famous Ffestiniog Railway, a narrow gauge railway built to carry slate from the mines down to the sea at Porthmadog; today it is a renowned tourist attraction providing stunning views on its trip to the coast. Only 1.1 miles away is Blaenau Ffestiniog, once the capital of slate quarrying and in the 18th century known as the "City of Slate". The town stands in an elevated, natural bowl amidst this mountainous region and has a good variety of shops and pubs, but is best known for its tourist attractions. One of the old quarries is now the renowned Llechwedd Slate Cavern. The famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway provides wonderful trips through spectacular countryside. Enjoy superb walks and bike trails at Coed-y-Brenin, one of the best mountain bike centres in Britain, as well as good climbing at the Plas y Brenin National Mountain Centre, wonderful sandy beaches, or great fishing or golf. Visit delightful Betws-y-Coed, the Italianate Village at Portmeirion, or Bala, with its renowned white water rafting opportunities.
