  • "I booked this cottage as It allowed dogs and alot of the advertised cottages clearly stated on there advert it didn't allow dogs upstairs."

I booked over the phone was told dogs are allowed then gets a welcome email after I paid saying dogs are not allowed to access 50% of the property and there is a baby gate to prevent them from going upstairs. I do think this should be highlited on the advert before people pay. The house itself was well located for the areas we wanted to explore most of the houses seem to be holiday lets with neighbours inbetween them. There are alot of passive aggressive notes on the green spaces facing the house in English telling people there on cctv citing dog mess. My 2 biggest issues were the boiler was padlocked so I was unable to turn off the heating that is set to come on at 6am the pipes creak so I was woken each morning even though I had turned the radiators off, it was a shame the heating couldn't be turned off and was on a set timer as it was very warm and it was a waste of gas. The biggest issue was the bed it creaks and was so uncomfortable, every single movement in that bed and it woke me or my other half up. I spent 2 nights on the floor and my boyfriend slept on the settee. We had planned activities in the area and the house was well located for this, well equipped wouldn't describe it as a cottage more an inner terrace.

Firstly, thank you for your feedback and comments you obviously felt strong enough to leave but unfortunately not strongly enough to mention most of these issues to us during your stay. We are quite shocked and upset by some of the feedback, given the fact that we met you on the Monday (day 3) after a blown bathroom light bulb was reported and we went to replace it. You did mentioned how warm it was and we showed you how to turn the heating down and after that we heard nothing from you and so assumed all was well. No further contact was made so we are very disappointed and feel the comments are a little unjust given we were not given the opportunity to address further issues and concerns, some of which we have to say are quite subjective. We pride ourselves on being dog-friendly and welcome our furry friends, being dog owners ourselves. However, we do have to strike a balance and are mindful that not all our guests visiting and staying with us have dogs and so we don't think it unreasonable to politely request that our guests with dogs are mindful of this as well. We have taken your comments on board and have now updated our listing to say dogs are not permitted upstairs where the bedrooms are. We would just like to add though that when booking a Sykes cottage there are booking conditions and as the customer you are responsible for reading those booking conditions and by making a booking you are agreeing to them. If we can bring booking condition 9.5 pet rules to your attention: You must not allow pets on beds or on furniture within the property. Regarding the green space across from the cottage this is council owned and in efforts to keep the area looking lovely for residents and visitors to enjoy, as you would find in any public space/park you would find such polite notices reminding dog owners to be responsible. We do not allow access to the boiler as there is no need for guests to have access. The boiler is on constantly and not on a timer. The temperature of the cottage is easily controlled by the thermostat in the sitting room, this way our guests have full control at the touch of a button. We also mentioned that each radiator has a thermostatic valve you can turn up or down giving more control in each room, you chose not to adjust these, they were fully open when we came to do the changeover. Last year we replaced a metal bed-frame with a new solid oak wood bed-frame and a new mattress. This can be very subjective depending on what you are used to at home. We have looked at the bed and tightened a couple of nuts and bolts so thank you for bringing the creaking to our attention. We don't understand why you never mentioned this to us during your stay, giving us the chance to sort it out for you, and why sleep on the floor when the bed in the second bedroom was made up but never used! And finally just picking up on your last comment, we pride ourselves on providing a well-equipped, clean and well maintained cottage, albeit in an inner terrace but then you can see that clearly in the photographs! I hope in the future you find a cottage that better suits your needs. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely and it was a great stay."

There was lots of goodies to welcome us (wine, milk etc) as well as dog treats and blankets for our companion. The cottage itself is exactly like the listing, well presented and cosy. It's been up dated to comply with COVID regulations and we were happy with the cleanliness as well as the provisions to help prevent the virus. There is a dispenser at the door and laundry bags are provided to make sure everything is cleaned before the next visitors. Lots of great walks near the cottage and it's well centred to be close to everything you should need. My only niggle was that it's a (small?) double bed - as a 6ft 1 guy my feet were dangling off the bed all week - if it was a bigger/comfier bed it would have made the stay even better.

Dear Josh, thank you for your recent feedback and lovely comments. Just picking up on your point about the bed, it is a standard 4ft 6" double bed rather than a 5ft king, hopefully it didn't spoil things too much for you. We're delighted you felt safe with all the measures put in place and that you enjoyed your stay and took full advantage of all the wonderful walks nearby. Best, wishes Angie and Rich Property Owner

  • "We stay in holiday cottages twice a year and this cottage is easily amongst the best."

It was spotlessly clean with everything you could need for a home from home. A very thoughtful welcome pack for us and also one for our springer spaniel was left by owners Angie and Rich together with logs and coal for the wood burner (which we used every night) and even some lavender sleep spray in the bedroom which I loved. The information file must have taken hours to put together with everything from how to work the tv and central heating to places to visit, where to eat and detailed walks to do. Really helpful and useful which We referred to often. There is nothing negative I can think of to say about this cottage. Would very highly recommend.

The cottage is situated on a very quiet cul-de-sac lane with a stream running by the front. There is a parking area, and the lane is well lit at night. The cottage was spotlessly clean, and the beds very comfy. The owners left a welcome pack which included treats for the dogs as well as the humans!! The cottage is an ideal location to several local attractions, which are also featured in the in depth information guide which the owners have clearly put a lot of time and effort into compiling. About the location

TANYGRISIAU

Blaenau Ffestiniog 1.1 miles; Porthmadog 8 miles; Betws-y-Coed 15 miles; Beddgelert 16 miles.

Tanygrisiau, meaning "below the steps", refers to the stepped cliffs above this traditional Welsh village. The Moelwyn mountains protect the village from much of the northerly gales in the winter, and give it a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering its location high in Snowdon. The village stands amongst dramatic scenery, and Tanygrisiau is a good starting point for many walks, especially if your intention is to climb Moelwyn itself. Tanygrisiau was famous for its slate mining, producing a high quality black slate that was used across the world. Tanygrisiau railway station is on the famous Ffestiniog Railway, a narrow gauge railway built to carry slate from the mines down to the sea at Porthmadog; today it is a renowned tourist attraction providing stunning views on its trip to the coast. Only 1.1 miles away is Blaenau Ffestiniog, once the capital of slate quarrying and in the 18th century known as the "City of Slate". The town stands in an elevated, natural bowl amidst this mountainous region and has a good variety of shops and pubs, but is best known for its tourist attractions. One of the old quarries is now the renowned Llechwedd Slate Cavern. The famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway provides wonderful trips through spectacular countryside. Enjoy superb walks and bike trails at Coed-y-Brenin, one of the best mountain bike centres in Britain, as well as good climbing at the Plas y Brenin National Mountain Centre, wonderful sandy beaches, or great fishing or golf. Visit delightful Betws-y-Coed, the Italianate Village at Portmeirion, or Bala, with its renowned white water rafting opportunities.
