  • "We came hear as a little honeymoon so nice and the dogs loved it so nice can not wait to come back done miss this gem"

  • "Our stay was for house hunting, so wifi was important, There was no internet availability on the network for any of our devices (neither had the hut next door), so I would assume no internet anywhere on the site."

The 3 ring cooker had only 2 small rings working. Radio didn't work, probably due to batteries dead. The listing promised bedding and towels. All we got was bedding, a tea towel and a bath mat, so couldn't use the shower and nothing to wash up or clean up with. No air conditioning? Good quality pans, but they all had non-stick coating peeling off inside. Shame, as the location is lovely and the site is very dog friendly with enclosed garden, which is a total win. Great views to sit out in the evening. Comfy bed. Loved the camping kettle. Outside is well kept. Nice stable door, but both the bolts were missing. The lack of wifi ruined our stay, as it made it very frustrating booking and following up on viewings etc, so we left early.

The property

St Asaph 4 miles.

The Shire Hut is a unique, oak-framed shepherd’s hut, situated within an acre of parkland on the owner’s small holding in Waen near St Asaph, Denbighshire.

This lovely, air-conditioned hut boasts fantastic views of the North Wales countryside, whilst around four miles from St Asaph and its amenities, recognised as the smallest city in the UK.

Enjoying a tranquil setting, the hut is ideal for a couple looking for a romantic break away, for a couple of friends looking to traverse the countryside, or a small family get together.

Inside there is a feature Victorian, cast-iron double bed, two rocking chairs in front of a recessed fireplace housing a small woodburning stove, a well-equipped kitchen, and a dining table with folding chairs.

There’s also a separate wet room with the extra facilities of grab rails.

The outdoor seating area looks out over the countryside towards the Clwydian Range & Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, providing an excellent place to enjoy a morning coffee, whilst the one-acre paddock backs onto the owner’s duck pond, pygmy goat, and horse paddock.

There is an additional paddock at the bottom of the park, should you wish to bring your own horse or pony.

There are many walks from the doorstep with riverside trails not far away, where you may see kingfishers, sparrow hawks and buzzards.

For your nearest hub of amenities, head into St Asaph, where you’ll find a selection of shops, pubs and eateries to ease your stay.

The coast can also be reached by car, stopping off to firstly tour Rhuddlan Castle / Castell Rhuddlan and hike up to Rhaeadr Dyserth Waterfall on route, before reaching Rhyl and its whole host of seaside amusements, including its golden stretch of sand.

Travelling south, the bustling city of Chester can also be reached from the hut, where you’ll find a high street of shops, a wide range of independent eateries, and a whole host of characterful buildings, including the Cathedral, Eastgate Clock, and the city walls, all worth visiting whilst in the area.

Your next adventure to North Wales starts at The Shire Hut.

About the location

ST ASAPH

Denbigh 6 miles; Chester 28 miles.

St Asaph, though small, was awarded city status in 2012, even though it boasts a population of little over 3500 occupants. Lying in the Vale of Clwyd, six miles between Denbigh and the coastal town of Rhyl, in North Wales, St Asaph enjoys a strategic location overlooking the rivers Clwyd and Elwy. The city offers delightful riverside parkland and a children’s play area with picturesque river walks where you may see kingfishers, sparrow hawks and buzzards. St Asaph is home to a historic cathedral, dating back 1400 years in areas and holding the reputation of being the smallest, ancient cathedral in Britain. It is also renowned as the location where the Bible was translated into Welsh in the 16th century. In September, the city comes alive with the arrival of the North Wales International Music festival, which takes place across numerous locations, culminating for the last few years in a television finale, broadcast from the cathedral. St Asaph offers numerous amenities and activities, from traditional pubs, to gastronomic dining experiences, numerous craft and gift shops and local clubs offering a 9-hole golf course, horse riding, angling, and crown green bowling, as well as a thriving leisure centre and the Tweedmill Retail Outlet. A superb holiday location for exploring this picturesque area of North Wales.
