  • "Could do with more parking spaces or dedicate ones for each property."

Or painted lines to park in. At times arriving back late evening we had to park under viaduct or in the area to the cinder track as parking area full but more cars could have been accommodated if cars parked slighty closer together

Appreciate your comment and whilst it has been raised by the property owners with the management team responsible for the external upkeep and maintenance, their response was not positive. Unfortunately we have found ourselves that not all users of the parking area are as thoughtful as yourselves. Property Owner

  • "We had a fantastic week at Esk View, it's a beautiful house with great facilities."

The outside furniture was an added bonus as we had great weather and made plenty of use of it. The only improvement I would suggest would be the provision of bath towels as we had to take our own but it wasn't a big problem and overall we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend to others.

  • "The Esk View house is part of a larger complex of houses for hire in a lovely location adjacent to the Esk river and close to the Cinder Path viaduct that is ideal for walking dogs."

The house is very well equipped and within walking distance of Whitby if you take the Cinder Path. Views from the viaduct are stunning. We found the house to be very comfortable and very safe for children and dogs, as the complex has very little traffic. It can be a little difficult to locate if coming to it via Ruswarp, as the road from there is closed due to subsidence. There are instructions at the entrance to this end of Larpool Lane that direct you to the other end of Larpool Lane. We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the house and visiting Whitby again.

Many thanks for your review and glad that you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

  • "This was our second weeks Esk was our second holiday."

It didn't start off well as the keg lock wouldn't work and it was a cold wind too. I couldn't contact the owners they'd set an ansaphone eventually i got thru to Sykes they told us they would contact the owners and told us to go for a drink. After 90 minutes the cleaner turned up and it appeared the lock had jammed so 2hrs it took to get in. It was nice and light in the Lounge one of the comfortably sofas out of 7th ones we had tried. It is well equipped and very nice crockery and pans etc. The Bathroom was nice and large nicely tiled and coordinated. Plenty of space for towels and others to place. The bedrooms are a little smaller than others but adequately fine. Only one issue it was 2nd bedroom was 2 single beds, and wasn't allowed to be moved. This is a good property with good views, you one thing note so easy is the parking a little awkward if you have 2 cars there's not many spaces, so we used my car helping a little. It's a very good base for travelling Yorkshire and plenty of places to visit. First came Whitby Abbey as my daughter in law is a Harry Potter fan so next was Gouthland to the Train Station. Reiveaux Abbey which is English Heritage. If you have that and National Trust it saves an awful lot of money. Good views from the Viaduct nice to lastly go sit out the back with a cup of tea and some cake from Botham's Backery of Whitby thats on the side of Shopping Complex with Sainsburys is good with large selection of cakes biscuits confectionary cheaper than other Shops stocking their items. Plus dont forget the fish and chops from near the harbour you can't go wrong. We all had a lovely time and already planning our 3rd visit since end of February.

So sorry that my phone was engaged when you initially called. We have replaced the key safe with a new version. We've made the details of this cottage as clear as possible in Sykes' information, including stating that the 2nd bedroom has 2 single beds and therefore not for a couple. So glad you enjoyed your time and are returning next year. Property Owner

Lovely comfy beds. Great walk along the viaduct into Whitby, you could hear the steam train but sadly couldn’t see it due to the trees. Parking was tight due to high season.

  • "This is the 2nd time of staying in this property with the first being September 2022 when equipment appeared to be quite new, it continues to be well equipped but other residents have not taken as much care of cooking equipment as we did unfortunately, however it was fine to use."

On arrival we could not gain entry into the property and on ringing the owner we found that we had been given the wrong PIN number to access the key, just the last number was wrong so we were fine on being given the correct number. Cleanliness was not as good as last time in respect of the kitchen and downstairs toilet floors, otherwise there were no issues. We were able to use the cushions from the shed this time on the picnic table, we didn't get the garden furniture out but the cushions were useful. We were pleased that the glass shelf has been removed from the bathroom as it was not obvious that it was sloping until things rolled off into the wash basin. There is still no grab rail to assist in getting in and out of the bath in order to use the shower, this is necessary for older people and those of us with limited mobility. Overall the property is in a lovely quiet setting with amble parking for residents and an easy walk into Whitby and we continue to be pleased with the cottage.

  • "The cleanest property we have stayed in."

The kitchen was exceptional, normally we wash everything first but not this time. Only one grumble for us was the main bed which was very hard but we did have the option of the other beds which when pressing them had some bounce. Rained all day on one of our days but was a delight to stay in especially with the reclining sofa.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottage was well equipped and well situated within easy walking into Whitby and shops quite close by."

The area is quiet and welcoming. The cottage is well furnished and the decor is lovely with nice colour schemes and, the wall hangings are a nice touch. We found that there was a smell in the downstairs toilet towards the end of the week and despite cleaning the toilet and floor it continued, however we had turned off the air freshener as it caused an allergic reaction to my partner. Overall our stay was pleasant and restful, it was a lovely week away and we will be pleased to return.

House was clean and very well presented. We was a little surprised bath towels were not provided. To be fair the earlier email did mention this but the listing on Sykes website said to leave used towels in the bath, so a bit confusing. Only other point, would have been nice to have a welcome pack with some basics for when we arrived, milk / tea and coffee. Other than everything else was perfect and an enjoyable stay.

  • "Lovely place to stay."

Cottage was very clean and we didn’t even feel we needed to wipe around anywhere when we got there. Everything we needed was there. Parking was no problem at all. Communication was good with owner. Great views, quiet park and 5 min drive to Whitby. Walking to Whitby was 30 mins with a dog. This was nice as it was away from the roads etc. 2 small negatives; 1. No recycling options for the bins. We separated everything but then realised we didn’t need to. 2. With this being a dog friendly property it would be nice to have a small fence on the decking so we could keep the door open when it was warm. Even if this was retractable, that would have been a bonus. These things wouldn’t put us off booking again and we knew about the decking before. Still a 5 star place to stay.

Many thanks for your comments Mark, much appreciated. In response to your 2 observations the refuse collection is governed by the local council who classify these properties as commercial and therefore all refuse is collected together and then sorted at their depot. On you other point we understand what you are saying but the owners of these properties are not allowed to construct fencing across the back of the property. We would look forward to hosting you again in the future. Property Owner

There was only 1 very small bin in the kitchen which had to hold all the rubbish including everything we would normally have recycled at home.other than that the cottage was very well equipped

I really appreciate your comments. Please note that the local council doesn't cater for recycling collections from these premises. All refuse should be placed inside the large wheelie bins provided in the shed in the center of the car park for weekly collection and recycling offsite. Property Owner

  • "The property is very well situated - easy to walk down into Whitby by the old viaduct, and centrally placed to explore the coast and the moors."

It is very comfortable and was very clean. It seems a bit mean not to provide bath towels (although unlike other properties I've stayed in they did provide plenty of loo rolls, tea towels and dish washer tablets). Other issue was more annoying which was the really poor TV reception, particularly the BBC channels which made it virtually unwatchable.

  • "Lovely location in a quiet rural area with amazing setting of Larpool Viaduct."

1.5 mile / 40 minute walk into Whitby (with kids and a puppy) down the Cinder Trail. We loved that we could bring our dog and with the hard floors and nature of the furnishings we felt happy for her to be downstairs. Beds nice and comfy. View from the bedrooms at the front and the back are gorgeous! The kitchen was well equipped, washing machine a bonus and plenty of extras like a drying rack and iron and ironing board. The Roku TV was great as it meant you can sign into your own Netflix or iplayer accounts. Lovely outdoor deck area. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well prepared by the lovely Jill. Great comms from the owner Jane too. The only teeny tiny negative was in the middle of August with multiple cars at other cottages we found parking problematic and often had to find parking a short walk away. Would recommend to anyone and hope to be back one day :-)

Perfect for a family of five, Esk View rests next the River Esk and is just over a mile from the heart of Whitby.

Make your way into the property, passing the handy cloakroom to the right, before entering the lovely sitting room, made homely with two plush sofas to relax on and a 43" Smart TV.

Move through to the kitchen/diner when the group is feeling peckish and set about making use of the excellent range of appliances here, complete with a dishwasher and washing machine, before serving up a family meal at the dining table which sits by the patio doors.

Open these doors up in the summer months to bring a gentle breeze in while you tuck in, or take your food and drinks outside to the fabulous decked area with outdoor furniture to use and shared lawns for the children and dog to play on.

Following a busy day, head upstairs to rest in one of the three delightful bedrooms, with the master double room enjoying a balcony with seating, perfect for sipping a morning coffee while getting lost in a book.

The remaining bedrooms comprise of a twin room and a single, while all rooms are served by the family bathroom, complete with a bath and overhead shower so you can freshen up however you prefer.

Make your way up the famous 199 Steps up to the spooky ruins of Whitby Abbey which stands dramatically on the headland, affording stunning coastal views, with the option to extend your walk along the Cleveland Way which runs down the length of the coast to Scarborough.

Once in Scarborough, visit Scarborough Castle and enjoy the rides at Luna Park on the seafront, with two beaches to choose from and the beautiful Peasholm Park offering a scenic picnic spot.

Enjoy walks and bike rides throughout the Esk Valley and the North York Moors National Park, or soak up the scenery without moving a muscle by taking a trip on the North York Moors Railway, a heritage line offering scenic journeys within vintage steam trains.
