  • "A lovely week at Arklehurst, thank you."

  • "Very much enjoyed our stay at Arklehurst."

Property was as we had expected, an original Dales cottage. The only downside unfortunately was as we were leaving one of the residents of Langthwaite came over to us and blamed us for allowing our dog to poop and not pick it up. I was actually offended and upset by this as we would never let that happen

  • "Everything we needed for our comfort and use was available."

The cottage was sufficiently warm with plenty of hot water and the beds provided us with many good nights rest. Some surfaces were a little dusty and the settees in the lounge a little malodorous, but the kitchen and bathroom were both very clean and hygienic. Bedding and towels were excellent. We were generally very happy with the cottage. Excellent location and we fully understood the parking arrangements as we have stayed in Langthwaite before. We would certainly recommend Arklehurst to others and return again. Thank you for providing the opportunity to holiday there.

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely place. The cottage is lovely with comfortable beds and all you need for a week away. Enjoyed the walks with the dogs. Both pubs are welcoming. Langthwaite is a charming place. The next village Reeth has am amazing Ice Cream shop. Would definitely visit again.

  • "I really liked the rustic feel to this cottage."

It retained a sense of the history that is so evident in Langthwaite on the outside. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the kitchen had what was needed. Great to have a fire in July when it was a bit soggy in the evening. For me, this cottage is perfect for dog owners and those who are keen to walk the Dales. The perfect base.

  • "The information on the cottage states that towels are NOT provided but bed linen is."

We took enough bath towels, hand towels, bathmats and tea towels for our stay, which took up a lot of space in our small car, only to find lovely white fluffy towels provided, also tea towels! This misinformation should be rectified on your details. Also it was a bit disconcerting to hear people moving about and talking upstairs, which turned out to be next door, whose bedroom was over our kitchen! It is a very cosy cottage, well fitted and equipped for every need.

I have asthma and the headboard was covered in THICK dust!!! It was like nothing had been dusted. We had to rewash items we were going to use such as plates, cups, glasses and cutlery.

!!! NO PARKING WHAT SO EVER but other than that we had a lovely stay.

We are sorry to hear you had issues with parking and hope this did not spoil your enjoyment. We always find it is fine to park a car directly outside the cottage for loading/unloading but it will understandably cause issues with local residents if left any longer as it obstructs access. There are several free spaces directly opposite the Red Lion pub which is very close to the cottage and it's fine to use these at any time. If none are available there is a large public car park in the village (just a couple of minutes walk away). Parking charges apply between 8am and 6pm but for anyone staying for a week we recommend purchase of a weekly ticket for £15. This is great value as it is also valid for all other Richmondshire DC car parks. Simon Oldfield (owner) Property Owner

  • "Had a fantastic stay at Arklehurst."

Perfect location for us. Lots of lovely walks. Kitchen was a lovely entrance, very spacious and well equipped. However, may I suggest a small welcome basket. For example milk, tea, coffee, biscuits. The shop which is 3 miles does stock all the above and more. But if you arrive late due to the traffic then you’re out of luck. The house was tidy but wouldn’t say clean, there were a lot of cobwebs (that had been there a while) dust on the sides and the shower had mould on (which is obviously known about due to the mould spray that is kept in the bathroom). Overall this was a perfect location for a very quiet break. With fantastic walks and The CB Inn a few miles away for a perfect dinner experience.

Plenty of room, comfortable sleeping, and pub right around the corner. The only thing that could have made it better was clearer understanding of where to park. Definitely need darker main bedroom curtains so you don’t wake at 4.30am, and a decent reading light downstairs. Loved the heated towel rail. Heard a few crashes, bangs and voices through the wall as so quiet there, but recompensed by birdsong, owls hooting, pheasants calling and church bell counting the hours. We also received a lecture on having mistakenly used the wrong dustbin for our rubbish. The partition wall between this cottage and the one next door was very thin, to the extent that it was possible to hear every word being said next door when in the kitchen. Parking was occasionally an issue. Village pub was unfriendly, did not serve food, and did not allow dogs. Owing to all this, we found it difficult to relax in the cottage. LANGTHWAITE

Barnard Castle 11.2 miles; Richmond 13.4 miles; Masham 22 miles.

The unspoilt Arkengarthdale village of Langthwaite is in the heart of TV’s “James Herriot Country” and is surrounded by spectacular and quite breath-taking countryside.
