The property

The Old Post Office is a charming, terraced house in Rosedale Abbey, North Yorkshire.

Suitable for families; with five bedrooms, this house is located in North York Moors National Park making it the perfect base to enjoy nature.

From the outside, the cottage exudes a cheerful and tidy charm, with its brick exterior and a pretty, welcoming door.

The gravelled courtyard is a peaceful place to enjoy sitting out in good weather.

The interior is full of natural light.

The house was originally built as the village Post Office and the décor has many touches that reflect its origins – including the post office weighing scales in the kitchen!

The living room is tasteful with a large stone fireplace and traditional brick pillars.

The space is open so there is plenty of room to watch TV, play a game of cards, or socialise around the dining table for dinner.

The kitchen is pleasing and contemporary with breakfast bar seating, to enjoy some refreshments as you keep the chef company.

Upstairs there is a tastefully decorated king-sized bedroom with an en-suite shower room and TV to watch your morning shows, the second double bedroom is neat with a handy shower and basin and a separate WC; there is a welcoming single room and twin room on this floor, as well as the family bathroom.

Climb up the stairs to the top floor, to find the spacious final twin room with sloping ceilings and exposed beams.

Explore the stunning North York Moors National Park, with its charming villages, scenic steam train rides, and views across the moors.

Excellent hiking and biking is accessible nearby on the repurposed railway track, leading past the fascinating remains of the once-busy iron works, now home to abundant birds and wildlife.

There is plenty to explore further afield: Whitby’s famous harbour, Abbey, and long sandy beaches, and Sandsend's peaceful seaside village atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the coast.

Discover Pickering and Helmsley Castles, unique mediaeval paintings in Pickering church, as well as Nunnington Hall, a magnificent National Trust country house, complete with peacocks, a lovely tea house, and intriguing exhibitions to explore.

Experience the peace of Rosedale Abbey in the heart of the Moors at The Old Post Office. Note: This property has a £400 Good Housekeeping Bond.

About the location

ROSEDALE ABBEY

Kirkbymoorside 8 miles; Pickering 10 miles; Whitby 16 miles.

Situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park and handily placed for touring both the Moors and the Coast, the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey is set within Rosedale, a beautiful valley of sweeping hillsides and breath-taking views. Rosedale is surrounded by wonderful moorland countryside with footpaths and bridleways radiating out in every direction. Today, a stone pillar, staircase and sundial are all that is left of the 12th century Cistercian Priory that gave the village its unusual name. Charming stone-built cottages cluster around the village green alongside village shops, tearooms, two old coaching inns and a glass studio; which featured recently in an episode of the BBC’s “Countryfile” programme. Rosedale Abbey also has its own 9-hole golf course but for golf enthusiasts, there are a number of excellent courses in the vicinity. The bustling market towns of Kirkbymoorside, Pickering and Helmsley offer a good selection of amenities, including restaurants, independent shops and markets, whilst the abbeys at Rievaulx and Byland are well worth a visit. An easy drive takes you to Castle Howard and the historic city of York whilst the coastal resorts of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough are all within reach. Guests can take a step back in time by booking a trip on the North York Moors Steam Railway at nearby Pickering, as well as learn of the area’s rich and exciting history at the Ryedale Folk Museum, which holds workshops throughout the year. Embrace the outdoors at Go Ape in Dalby forest for a truly memorable and adventurous family fun day out, or lose yourself in The Great Yorkshire Maze.
