  • "Plentiful supply of towels/T-Towels and kitchen items (ie dishwasher tablets/clingfilm )Comfortable beds and good sized bathroom."

There is a lack of storage space in the kitchen to store food items aside from the boiler cupboard which is too warm to store items safely. Also a lack of oven proof dishes/serving dishes etc should you wish to prepare meals (there is no pub or restaurant in the village). The garden is small but secure and divided into distinct sections with chairs and tables-ideal for warmer months. The garage is an added bonus given that there are no proper parking facilities. If you have more than one car be prepared to have to bump it up onto a fairly steep bank. Given that it was October and therefore not so many vehicles there was room on opposite bank for second car. Despite house being close to the Park and Ride and the Stables Restaurant (approx 1.5 miles) the lack of a footpath or public transport from village means that walking is a little dangerous on a single track road to get to the Park and Ride so it is safer to drive ! There is a decent walk to Sandsend from the village which is up and down through woods and fields with some pleasant views .Be prepared to take a decent footpath map/App as there is a lack of signage along the route. We would consider staying again at Sea Change during spring/autumn months when it is quieter given the issue of parking .

Thanks for your detailed and positive feedback. We have rearranged the kitchen cupboards so there is now ample room for food storage. In addition we have added an additional number of Pyrex dishes for cooking and serving. Thanks. Property Owner

  • "Lovely location."

I run my own cleaning business and I thought it was only surface clean the top of the fridge was dirty. I also didn't think it was good having the pots in the boiler cupboard as they smelt and tasted funny. Good do with a new frying pan as handle wasn't safe .But we had a great time and slept well and would go back. Thank you.

Thank you for the detailed feedback it's much appreciated. we've amended our cleaning routine to include the fridge top. All the crockery has been thoroughly cleaned and relocated. The frying pan has been replaced. We welcome feedback as it flags up any issues which we can deal with to improve your holiday experience. Property Owner

  • "Very nice house that was well supplied in kitchen & upstairs lots of good towels."

We were relieved to find the garage belonged to the house given the cramped parking on the lane. The only house improvement we would suggest is a stair gate to stop guest dogs going upstairs, our dog is not allowed in our bedroom at home & we had to close other bedroom doors to keep her out

Thank you for your feedback. As non dog owners we welcome and rely on comments from guests to advise on what is required. From this week we will be providing dog gates for both of our Sykes Cottages properties. Thanks!. Property Owner

Kitchen was fully equipped, house was warm and comfortable. Garden was fully enclosed for our dog so didn't have to worry about letting him outside. Thank you to the owners who came round with battery powered lights after we contacted them when the village suffered a power cut which ended up lasting nearly 6 hours. Weather was lovely and we had some great walks from the house and surrounding areas. Overall a great week away

  • "Highly recommended."

Quiet location. Very convenient for Sandsend, Whitby and access to the moors. The park-and-ride is a 1 minute drive away from the cottage and was still operating in October; it was an inexpensive way to get into Whitby and saved parking stress. Lovely walks in the area. The house is spacious, comfortable and well equipped with lovely garden areas. The garage was really useful too. Communication with the hosts was easy and there are good instructions in the house for all the appliances. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Just a short hop to the beach, nice and quiet. A handy walk just down the road for our dog. The neighbour did get our dog barking as he was in the front garden a lot, but we tried to keep her as quiet as possible. Handy for Whitby and the bays. Would highly recommend we had a great stay.

We had everything we needed and our dog loved the enclosed garden. We were only about 15/20 minutes drive away from all the places we wanted to visit, including Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby. The beach at Sandsend is only a 15 minute walk and you can take dogs. We definitely recommend eating at The Heart Inn, Sandsend, the food is amazing and the staff there are very welcoming

The cottage was spotlessly clean with great countryside views to the front and rear. It is a very light and airy house. Quiet area; slept soundly. Very well equipped. Nice touches like hand-made curtains/cushions. Dog-friendly garden filled with attractive foliage. Great to come back and relax in front of log burner after exploring local areas. Would definitely rebook.

  • "Most windows blown so view compromised."

No blind in kitchen window making it unbearable when in their cooking evening meal as sun blazes in. Only 7 pegs for a family of 6. The rug in lounge is a trip hazard as so thin and has no sticky backing for laminate flooring. The vacuum cleaner was absolutely full of other people’s dirt and dust (not nice). Inside cupboards dirty. One saucepan needs replacing.

We welcome feedback and any way we can improve the holiday experience for our guests. I sincerely hope this did not spoil your stay. While we cant immediately act on the comments with regards to the windows we certainly will keep this in mind for future planned developments. We will certainly address the other areas as soon as possible by adjusting our cleaning and checking regime. Thank you. Property Owner

Apart from that the cottage was really nice .

Thank you for your feedback. The pub has been opened on and off periodically . We have found it is closed completely, the description has now been amended. There is a park and ride just 1.5 miles from the property. We are glad you enjoyed the cottage. Property Owner

The property

This charming, semi-detached cottage of Sea Change rests in Newholm near Whitby, North Yorkshire.

It is within North York Moors National Park so a family of six can enjoy great walks and explore the countryside while also being within reach of the coast.

The first thing you will notice when you enter the home is the wonderful living room, with two sofas and a TV to keep everyone entertained; the woodburning stove adds a warm glow to the room.

After unwinding for a little bit, head to the kitchen/diner, a pleasant space offering stylish, white cabinets with wooden worktops which host a good selection of appliances to make tasty meals with.

Once the chef of the group has fixed up a delicious dinner, enjoy it at the kitchen's table, which seats four, or as a larger affair at the living/dining room's six-seater table.

As day turns to night, proceed upstairs to find three wonderful bedrooms; a double with a vanity area, another double with ample storage for your belongings, and a twin room.

The bedrooms all rest near a fabulous, family bathroom, which not only features slate tiling but offers a bath with shower over, where soothing soaks can be savoured.

One of the property's highlights is certainly its large, enclosed garden, where alfresco meals can be enjoyed under the trellis on the patio, whilst the kids play on the lawn!

Treat yourself with a visit to the local tea room, Penny Clare, where you can even indulge in a craft gin, however, you can embark on a short drive into the town of Whitby to come across a range of welcoming eateries and well-stocked shops settled in one handy location, too!

Whitby is also home to a beautiful harbour and an iconic abbey, both of which are waiting to be explored; venture down the 199 Steps from the abbey and tour the fascinating museum of Whitby, or unwind on the town's gorgeous beach, with Sandsend Beach being just a peaceful stroll away across fields via a footpath.

For even more coastal fun, be sure to travel to Scarborough, a Victorian resort with plenty to offer, from the sights of Scarbrough Castle and Peasholm Park to the breathtaking ride of the Scarborough North Bay Railway and the vibrant beaches the town backs onto.

Head inland to spend the day in Pickering, where the remains of Pickering Castle and tours around the Beck Isle Museum, along with access to the renowned amusement park of Flamingo Land Resort!

If the outdoors is more your thing, be sure to make the most of the North York Moors National Park's amazing sights, or embark on a hike along The Cleveland Way to find more of the coastal delights resting along North Yorkshire's shores.

A stay to remember awaits at Sea Change.
