  • "A wonderful house in a beautiful location."

Would 100% book again, and tried to, but it looks like Old Peak is no longer available to rent which is such a shame, we had a wonderful stay.....

  • "We stayed at Old Peak last year and enjoyed it that much that we booked again for this year."

Upon arrival we found the gardens very run down and overgrown with weeds. The house itself was clean and tidy. Also up for sale as is the neighbouring properties which is probably why we can’t book for next year. Next doors dogs do bark a lot for no reason but you get used to it. Hot tub was lovely to relax in even though the weather was terrible. Overall we enjoyed the stay and found it very relaxing.

  • "On arrival next door dogs were barking and yapping."

This appears to be a regular issue as also mentioned in other review "Attached Neighbours, with three small Dogs, you really need to have a word with them, they leave the Dogs to bark and Howl all day, hardly fair on them and us". Main issue however is the front main bedroom window is insufficiently maintained. Whilst we appreciate it was very windy (which the owner very kindly pointed out he had no control over the weather) some repair would have prevented the severe draught coming through which meant it was too cold to sleep in that room for 3 nights. Also curtains may have helped. So single beds it was for the first time ever in our married life. That said, the hot tub was lovely, the cottage was comfortable downstairs but watch out for the damaged flooring in the kitchen. Read up on how to use the Nest Thermostat as there are no instructions. Probably a good base for the lovely surrounding area, but husband was recovering from surgery so the dogs did spoilt it for us.

  • "The property is in a lovely location and is very tastefully decorated."

It is well equipped and has everything you need. Some great walks from the property and was nice being help way between Whitby and Scarborough. I notice from previous comments in the guest book that there were batteries missing from the TV remote - the back was missing so we bought some cellotape and popped it over - but small things like this should have been addressed. It would be useful to have instructions for the heating as we were trying to turn it down but it was still showing on the thermostat at 21 degrees which was way too hot for us. Also, instructions for which day the bins needed to be put out would be helpful. We relied on watching for the neighbours to put their bins out but the recycling bin was already full when we arrived so we assume it had not been put out the week before. Again, a lovely property and we would definitely stay there again. Thank you

  • "This was a last minute find and what a find it was!"

Absolutely stunning home extremely comfortable definitely home from home decor so beautiful, so much space! Kids loved it it's definitely a golden find! The view was breathtaking, shops abouts 15 mins drive away, supermarkets, petrol stations, takeaways! Hot tub what a bonus! Nobody wanted to leave :) if I'm going to be picky at the cons: the floor boards and the marks from tiny hands everywhere and attention to detail, light bulbs gone, back of remote snapped the heating being on timers

  • "Been twice now and thoroughly enjoyed both times."

Very relaxing. Lovely walks with dog straight from door. Spectacular views. Nice that owners have rectified bathroom fixtures from last break, they were hanging loose but all feel sturdy now and look great too. A few more cups would be nice and some cheap sparkling wine glass flutes would be a nice addition. This time used the hot tub and was a very nice experience. What a beautiful holiday let it is and at this time of year reasonably priced. Hopefully we will be back. Jill, Vicky & Milo

  • "The old Peak is wonderfully set for walkers and the East Yorkshire Coast, Whitby Scarborough and Filey, Pickering and Goathland, you get the picture!"

! the accommodation on the whole is very good, One information centre within 500yds where you could get lite refreshments, and at the end of the road opposite another tea room 500yds away, serving all sorts of lovely cakes etc, we had seen that the floorboard's creak and a couple of other bits from previous reviews, I would imagine the house is quite elderly but has had a dramatic facelift, so it deserves to creak, didn't bother us, if anything its character!! However, we found the TV controls with a missing battery door and a missing battery? Quite why this had not been attended to Who Knows? It would help if there was some form of basic instructions for the appropriate bin day and heating, we found the thermostat, we think, but not knowing how to use it we left well alone, very difficult to open windows, so again we left them alone, front and rear door open cooled the place!!! There were a couple of marks on the paintwork so to be safe we took pics, and one rail is missing from the bottom of the stairs, not really an issue but. The tap in the basin in the bathroom is loose. The hot tub according to the wife was lovely, the fridge freezer, fridge ok plenty of room, the freezer, door seals not closing properly on top right is causing an ice issue, and please clean it out. The cleaning throughout could honestly be better. Attached Neighbours, with three small Dogs, you really need to have a word with them, they leave the Dogs to bark and Howl all day, hardly fair on them and us. Would we recommend The Peak? Yes. Will we be back, no, we've done Yorkshire, time to see other parts of the British Isles before a blanket 20mph hits.

  • "Old Peak was a great home from home which provided us all of the practical features needed to enjoy life away from your day to day setup."

There were a few snags that could be resolved to help improve the experience and elevate the property, but these are minor points and certainly nothing to prevent an enjoyable stay. We had the unfortunate timing of the house next door being refurbished and severe roadworks out front….but this encouraged us to get out and enjoy the Yorkshire coast in glorious sunshine, all week long. It’s a fantastic location and an ideal base to explore the coast from. I would class the property and the facilities as average-to-good, they were clean, tidy and well presented….but need refining to achieve a premium experience.

It was so homely, clean and well provisioned. The welcome basket was a lovely touch too. The hot tub was spacious and easy to use. Beds comfy so got a good night's sleep. Kitchen has all the basics you need, including stuff you wouldn't expect (toasty maker and slow cooker!). Floor boards are hilariously creaky but doesn't impact your stay (unless you are trying to play hide and seek!). Highly recommended. And in a great, quiet area too. Lovely walks from the cottage and right in the middle from Whitby and Scarborough so it's a perfect location.

  • "This property is amazing."

Absolutely perfect for a relaxing getaway. There are numerous walks around Ravenscar and it's a very short drive to Scarborough, Whitby and Goathland etc. After a long day walking you can relax in the hot tub. The house was very clean and has everything you need for a short stay. The only thing is you only get one dishwasher tablet, binbag and laundry detergent so I would recommend you bring some yourself. There's also a draft from the window in the master bedroom so we both went home with the sniffles but the cottage is amazing and we definitely will be staying again. There's enough room for your dog and they provide a bed, toy and some treats. The garden is enclosed and is well kept and neat. There was no room left in the recycle bin so unfortunately we had to put our recycling in the main bin but I'm sure if you brought your own binbags then the housekeeper/ cleaner would be able to sort. I've recommended to friends and family and they've already booked! Fantastic stay thank you

Having a hot tub was great and little touches like dog bed/bowls made this a great stay. Would come back. Only reason for 4 stars is the floorboards are really creaky and this might annoy some people.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay however felt the property was lacking some essentials that could have really enhanced the quality I."

E Only 1 tea towel provided Only 1 bin bag Only 1 dishwasher tablet Few toilet rolls No kitchen roll No olive oil/cooking oil No foil With a remote location like this and no shop, the kitchen should really be better equipped with basic essential items. Also on arrival the thermostat was set at 12 degrees, so we arrived to a very cold property rather than a warm and inviting one that we would expect. For the money paid, I would expect the above aspects to be met.

  • "The property is very clean and well equipped in a beautiful location."

Lots to see and do. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is the floor boards upstairs are really creaky and the property needs somewhere to dry wet towels and clothes. A clothes airer or towel rail. This would not stop us stopping there again as it's a beautifully decorated, well equipped property.
