The lodge is compact but well designed and has a place for everything. Well kitted out and spotlessly clean. A perfect base to explore the North Yorkshire Moors and coast. The views from the lodge are stunning too.

So clean, stylish, so well equipped. Everything has been thought about here. Views were amazing, wonderful to just sit out and relax. It's a real credit to the owners and we are already looking to return. Thank you both.

  • "Owl Lodge is in a wonderful location."

Fabulous views and ideal for lots of attractions. It is spotlessly clean, very well equipped and there's lots of very thoughtful extras. The Welcome pack was a lovely treat. We were a little surprised how compact the Lodge is on first appearance, but the clever use of space allowed all necessary storage etc. We did find the sofa uncomfortably low, but that's probably an age thing! The local pub, The Rose and Crown is friendly with good food and beer. We visited the steam railway in Pickering, which was an excellent day out. We had a lovely few days in Owl Lodge, and would return.

Location is ideal to get away from everything but close enough to amenities when you need them. Visited many historic buildings and beautiful gardens so couldn’t ask for a better stay.

Well equipped. Everything we could have needed and more. The welcome pack was indeed welcome with all sorts of goodies and a bottle of good red wine to boot. One fine weather day when we went to the Bird of Prey sanctuary and saw the star attraction, a sea eagle escape and soar to over a thousand feet Amazing. Many thanks for a fantastic stay.

The smoke detector started to warn us the battery was low and a quick phone call and battery replaced. So we have had a no fuss no worries stay again in the comfort of knowing how much the owners care and their attention to detail down to the welcome pack provided. The views from the decking are second to none. Brilliant

The lodge itself has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The surroundings area is beautiful and the location is perfect for visiting Whitby, York, Scarborough and the likes of flamingo land and light water valley. Danny and Vicky go above and beyond to make sure you know how to get them if you need them at the same time as leaving you to enjoy your holiday. Thank you again for another lovely stay.

  • "A fabulous little lodge."

Fitted and furnished to a very high standard, fantastic views over fields, quiet, relaxing scenery. A very generous welcome pack of goodies as well as milk in fridge and tea, coffee and sugar in cupboard, plus a text from the owner the day before, asking if we'd prefer red or white wine! Would return in a heartbeat, especially if we had the same great weather. A superb, cosy base. Maybe another lounge chair to comfortably accommodate four adults, or even a two seater sofa instead of the chairs. Was great for us two though.

  • "Spotlessly clean, very well equipped, very comfortable beds / sofa, and in a nice tasteful and modern decor."

We had no need to meet with the owner, but communications with them via txt message were very helpful and very prompt. Should we have had any issues, i have no doubt they'd have been dealt with quickly. Situated on a quiet row of cabins, on the outer southern edge of Nawton, we found the cabin a great place for a break. Great views to the south over the fields. It was chosen for being more or less central to everywhere we had intended to visit - National Bird of Prey Centre, York, Lightwater Valley / Flamingo Land, Whitby, Scarborough, York Outlets, Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington etc. Everything within an hours drive, mainly on lovely country roads, the route past Castle Howard being particularly fun to drive along, and the drive over the moors to Whitby being very picturesque. Well equipped cabin with dishwasher, toaster, microwave, double oven / grill with hob, tall fridge freezer (lots of space in both - should you need freeze anything), shower, toilet (obviously!), 2 very comfortable double beds, smart TV (remember to log out of Netflix etc before you leave!), excellent wifi coverage as well - which can be a deal breaker for a lot of people (ourselves included) these days, so worthy of a mention. I sat outside on the decking watching MOTD whilst doing some star photography, with no loss of signal. It's more or less in "dark sky" country, which is great, assuming the weather stays clear. Very comfy sofa and swivel chair. Breakfast bar with stools and large patio table / chairs outside should you wish to dine out there, which we did a couple of times. Towels and bedding are provided, but if you need larger towels for a trip to the sea, or the nearby outdoor pool in Helmsley you'll need bring your own. Speaking of the outdoor pool - it's very popular and you'll need book well in advance - we left it too late and didn't get a slot - you'll need book online. Plenty space to park - enough room for 2 cars if needed, one either side of the cabin. There's a Co-Op in Helmsley, and another larger one in Kirkbymoorside, and an Lidl in Pickering. In Nawton we tried the Fusion Spice Indian restaurant which was excellent, and we had wanted to try the Fish & Chip shop but that was cash only, so we had to change our plans. There's a good play area next to the cricket ground right at the end of the street you turn into, should you have children - swings, assault course thing, zip wire etc - the usual things. They were playing cricket there early evening the 3 times we visited as well, should that be of interest. Welcome pack left out for us with sausage / bacon & eggs, chocolate cake, bottle of wine and soft drink for our daughter and some cartridges for the Nespresso machine. Enough to get you started, and a lovely gesture. Bird feeder on the decking is fun to watch whilst having breakfast. Overall a great cabin, in a great very quiet central (for us!) location. Would hope to visit again. Many thanks.

.. We are two best friends having a girls getaway and were delighted to stay here. There was nothing that had not been thought of from the Welcome Pack to the effortless entry on arrival. No noisy traffic passing was an asset along with the view and watching the many varieties of birds visiting the bird table whilst eating outside or through the window was great entertainment every morning. About the location

HELMSLEY

Kirkbymoorside 6 miles; Thirsk 14 miles; Pickering 13 miles; York 26 miles.

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically - Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by. Helmsley also boasts an arts centre showing films and plays, and an outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the summer. There is excellent walking on the doorstep - indeed the Cleveland Way starts in Helmsley - and the surrounding North York Moors with their hidden dales and villages are pretty in all seasons. York is less than an hour's drive south, as is Scarborough, Whitby and the east coast, whilst Pickering and the beginning of the famous steam railway line (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) are a little over 20 minutes' drive.
