  • "The Cottage was lovely and cosy."

We loved the log fire. The property was very well equipped. Cupboard storage space for the food and sundries we took with us was a little limited. Some hooks above where the Bench seat is would be good idea as we had nowhere to hang coats etc. Other than that the property was first class and would definitely return at some point.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback. Yes, we must sort out some coat hooks! We hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "Overall an excellent property very clean modern bathrooms, comfortable beds and bedrooms."

plenty of room downstairs but a little too cold and the sofas were a little low. Handy for the surrounding area. overall a pleasant stay.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. If possible, could you let me know why you scored the ‘accuracy of listing’ so low (just wondering what we can clarify in the future)? Thank you Kate Property Owner

  • "Cottage is great, very comfortable and love that there was laundry facilities in the out house in the garden."

Kitchen had everything we needed, and the induction hob worked great (took us a bit to work out the way of it so maybe some instructions could be considered for future guests). Loved being able sit out in the garden which was very dog proof for our small jack russell (only thing I'd say is the weeds and nettles are a bit of a pest especially trying to get to wheelie bins) - would love to return.

  • "Ancient and modern describes it."

Great base for exploring the area. It was booked for 4 but 2 had to decline as they could not get the time off. This made it more difficult for us as we needed there help with the stairs. Sofa's were a bit low and soft for us oldies but overall not too bad. No bin for recycling could have been empted and not returned. Bad weather did not help but it's a great base to explore the area.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Hopefully we can welcome you back when the weather sorts itself out Property Owner

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We look forward to welcoming you on your return. Property Owner

BARNARD CASTLE

Staindrop 6 miles; Richmond 13 miles; Darlington 16 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The pretty village of Bowes is situated amid the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale, in County Durham. The village boasts a traditional old pub and has a long history dating back to the Romans. Its most famous landmark is Bowes Castle, built on the site of the original Roman fort soon after the Norman Conquest. Bowes also has a significant connection with Charles Dickens and Dotheboys Hall in the heart of the village is believed to have been the inspiration for Nicholas Nickleby. Nearby is the market town of Barnard Castle, whose medieval ruins still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. The town itself boasts cobbled streets, yards and back lanes that were originally laid in the 12th Century. Within easy reach are the Bowes Museum, Pennine and Teesdale Ways, the River Tees and the magnificent waterfalls at High Force.
